Honestly, I do the same thing. I have been diagnosed with OCD, but Body Dysmorphic Disorder is a recently identified offset of OCD that may also fit it. I comprehend your situation, I do the same thing when stressed
I've never been diagnosed with OCD, so I won't claim to have it...but symptoms of it seem to run in my family, so it's a possibility that it's more than just tendencies.
My family seems to have something against getting help for anything dealing with mental troubles....I've received several speeches from my mother on how she 'handled' hers on her own, despite the fact that she still has very clear signs of it that negatively effect her. (Like rituals that she has to do or others have to mimic in order for it to be 'done correctly'...mostly with cleaning)
I was just surprised that....this particular thing that I did wasn't something everyone did.
I mentioned it to my sister and she said doing it so often like I did was 'obsessive'....because she's my roommate and she sees me do it on an hourly basis like I do...
Aha...I thought I was alright because you're not supposed to get help for these things unless they're getting in the way of your life/causing problems for you....but given the fact that I'm literally tearing myself up....
It might be something I should....look into getting help for...
