I did a lot in my teens and 20's. Having a family means my gaming playing time is shorter and more family focused.

Are lands with flood counters from Quicksilver Fountain still whatever they were before they became an Island? Do nonbasic-lands retain whatever abilities they had or are they just Islands?

They’re just Islands. They lose their other abilities and just have “T: Add U to your mana pool.” They still have their original name and any supertypes (snow, basic, legendary) that they might have.

When a land “becomes” a basic land type and it’s not “in addition to its other types”, then its abilities are overwritten like this.

If I have wild pair and one elf creature in play and I cast a 2/2 elf can I put Heedless One into play?

Yes.

It will be 2/2 in your library, and then 3/3 on the battlefield.

Yeah, Philmont was the best two weeks of my life and I am so pumped that I get to go for a week this summer. I am seriously considering applying to become a staff member with them next year.

Could you explain why Upheaval is banned in commander? I'm not seeing it as anything beyond really good

Upheaval is a particularly annoying board wipe in that you can float a bunch of mana, then bounce everything, and play more things again. Add to that other synergies like Suspended cards etc and you have a player that's gotten so far ahead that the game breaks. 

Slight tangent but I believe Cyclonic Rift has some of the same problems and deserves a banning too, but that's just me.
