hey ur the author of the fic ‘end of the line’ right? yeah anyway that fic is so awesome i wanna crush it up and snort it like cocaine. oooohhhh the lil interlude bits with someone talking to avery?? (so excited to see what that leads to!) derek using his intelligence against the king?? incredible
You heard it here folks! Cocaine lost it's edge? Try FANFICTION!
XD in all honesty tho, thank you for this comment, it made my day. End of the Line has been in my brain for like a month! Not just for the toxic d3rking stuff either! I love writing Derek being too clever for his own good, love to see him squirm his way out from under the King.
As for the bits with the 'mysterious' narrator... Well. Let's just say, she's been on my mind for a REALLY long time. You're gonna see more of her very soon, don't worry >:3
Side tangent:
The King in Yellow has been on my brain before SFAWTDE. I became enthralled by The Hanged King and Alagada from the SCP wiki, which were based on The King in Yellow/Carcosa. Then, once SFAWTDE hit, I knew I had to read the source material. I found an audiobook of the King in Yellow to put on while I worked on other stuff.
There's something... Different about how the original King in Yellow feels.
Unreliable narrators filled with spite and hate and madness. Liars and lovers and the masked who repress and hide being forced into the spotlight of the King's stage. It sees you. It knows you. The mask you wear cannot hide you from it.
The Minecraft skins being masks. D3rlord3 says he's not scared, putting up the face of a brave knight, but in reality he is terrified. Then, having to face his own death, his mask of the Knight becomes his own face, and he finds the bravery of one.
And then there are the little things throughout the book. Boris at the bedside when he should be dead. The nude model dying and her lover's last note left unfinished. The mockery the King holds for the church, the concept of God. The way it chases, never ending, and for a moment you think you've gotten away. You think you are returned to salvation.
And then the moment ends and you find yourself in Carcosa, the King whispering in your ear.
"It is a fearful thing, to fall into the hands of the living god."
I know Lovecraft has his pantheon of Elder Gods, and his works are known for a reason! But... It's not the same, not for me. There's something more to the King than just another Eldritch deity...
