I was expecting that Papa Silver's voice actor is the same with the voice actor of the father of Nagisa in Clannad TT^TT

What did you think about tonight's episode?

I liked it! It felt nice to properly get back to the canon storyline, and there was no dragging at all, which has happened in the past because they try to stretch the material to fill the episode time, and the little filler they did have fit well. And I thought from the preview that the little bit of Flare dressed as Juvia would be about something like that, so I wasn’t surprised lol! 

Also, the opening gave me many, many feels. ;_; I especially loved seeing papa Silver animated, and it looks like they might even get to the FT teams being sent out after the council members within the next 12 eps or so (since that’s usually as long as openings last). Which should mean they probably wont drag out the Sun Village arc at all, and that has me relieved, because we really don’t need any more filler. I want to get to the meat of the Tartarus arc ASAP. ^-^

It's perfect and so is your view on things! c: But I was wondering, how do you think Juvia is going to act around Gray after this arc? Or what do you think about the whole "Juvia indirectly killed Gray's reanimated father by literally ripping Keith apart" situation in general? How do you think Gray will act too? Thanks! Yes, of course I do! Hello again, and thank you! ^^

Personally, what I’d like to have happen, is to get some amount of closure/a conversation between Gray and Juvia (we deserve that at the very least), with Juvia explaining some of what happened, and especially in regards to her responsibility for Silver ultimately disappearing, while Gray reassures her. But THEN, I’d like her to still be quite down about things.

I think Juvia views Gray as a very kind person (which he is), and therefore she’d think he was just trying to not make her feel badly about the situation, which is why she thinks he brushed off her actions. I think ultimately she’s still going to be devastated over having taken away his father, and how she thinks that has affected him. So, ideally I’d like her to distance herself from Gray. 

I think this would shake up their dynamic quite nicely, while giving an opening for Gray to try and pursue her for once. Mashima usually puts a small, but new spin on Gruvia in each arc, so this would be a nice change of pace IMO.

As for what I think about Juvia “killing” Silver and tearing Keith apart from the inside out, I was shocked Mashima did things in that way. Early on in the arc, I did contemplate Juvia fighting with Gray to take down Silver together, or Silver even using Juvia to put Gray at an emotional disadvantage. And then I thought Juvia would help Gray defeat Silver indirectly by defeating Keith (which kind of happened), who we had found out was responsible for bringing Silver back. But I never thought Juvia would be the one to actually, even if indirectly, kill Silver, and certainly not in this way.

I do like that she was put into such emotional turmoil, and that she made this hard, but correct choice. She’s usually given a large emotional handicap in her fights, and this was no different. And I definitely liked the small, telepathic chat she and Silver shared, and the acceptance, trust and faith Silver showed in Juvia, both in regards to taking down Keith, doing what was best and right, and also in leaving Gray in her hands. It gave Gruvia a layer that was sorely missing, and that was Juvia’s link to Gray’s past. She now has that through Silver, by having received his father’s blessing in a big way. 

As for her defeat of Keith, I was shocked it was so brutal. I didn’t think she’d actually kill him, and certainly not in such a decisive way. She busted that demon into pieces. He doesn’t even have a body anymore, and it showed how really frightening Juvia’s powers could be if she really went all out.  

And as to how Gray will react, I really do see him being very understanding and grateful. Sure, there’s a chance he might feel kind of weird about everything, but I honestly think it’s more likely that he’ll see how hard it all was for Juvia, and how broken up she is about what she thinks she did to him, and he’ll want to make the situation ok for her. Especially in light of the facts, and how Juvia actually did a positive thing for him and his father, even if she can’t see it in that way.

So, overall, I really like what Mashima did with Gray, Juvia, Silver and Keith. I’m just (like every other Gruvian), waiting for some type of resolution now lol! I do think my wish for Juvia to distance herself isn’t all that likely though, because Mashima tends to wrap up any significant drama by the end of the arc, and I don’t see him dragging things out in that way beyond Tartarus.

After Juvia defeats Keith (because you know she's gonna do it ), what I fear most is that it's going to rain. Like back in the day when 'Shin-Shin-To, Juvia is the Rain Woman'was her chant. It'll break my heart to see her like that again.. T.T

Me too. :( I hope things don’t get that severe for her, because it would be devastating to see her revert to the rain woman persona. Mashima could certainly do that, however, if he wanted to prolong the drama, and there could be a lot of interesting development if he has Gray try to bring her out of it (it would switch the dynamics, as well, with the pursued now being the pursuer in a way).  I also think that would be really touching.

However, I don’t think Mashima will go that far. I think whatever angst could result from this will be dealt with soon enough, or certainly by the end of this arc. Heck, maybe some miracle will occur, and Silver will actually be allowed to stick around. I’d like that a lot. I need some more papa Silver in my life, and so do Gray and Juvia. ^^

Questions

Am I the only one who still has questions about papa Silver?

Why did Kyouka say that she was surprised he was in his human form when we were first introduced to the 9DG if he really is only a walking corpse? Are we really to believe that no one but Keith and Mard Geer knew Silver was a dead human? Because, Kyouka made it sound like she had seen his demon form before. 

And why would the 9DG EVER let in a dead human (who can kill demons) into the a guild of demons as an elite? I just don't buy Keith's flimsy reasoning for it, and if it's just left at that, I'm going to be pretty unsatisfied.

Also, if he really has no demon powers, what was going to happen once Face did activate? He's just using magic, right? So, essentially the 9DG would be stuck with one member who can't do anything, because his powers have been nullified thanks to Face.

I hope there's something more to this, because the above are pretty gaping plot holes IMO.

Chapter 390 Thoughts

Oh geez. So, Silver is now confirmed as Gray's dad, which is what I first thought when I saw him, and what I most wanted to happen. That's the good news. The bad news is I did not believe nor want it to be Deliora AT ALL. Simply because I felt like Gray already dealt with the Deliora thing, and so did Ur AND Lyon. Hell, I didn't even like when it was dredged up in the Sun Village arc. I wanted this to be something different/new. But no, he really did feel the similarities to Deliora's magic in the Sun Village arc because it WAS Deliora. *face palm*

I still, however, say some things don't add up, because a demon like Deliora having demon slayer abilities and visiting a grave make me think there is some part of Gray's father still present inside the body Plus, his personality and past actions just don't match this current version of him we're seeing. So, I have hope that maybe once Deliora is somehow expelled from the body, Silver himself can stick around.

Now, to the points I did like. it looks like jhayni-in-the-rain was right when she said Juvia might have to stop Gray from using Ice Shell. Man this is going to be some angsty stuff. I still don't know if she'll do anything through a direct confrontation, or just through defeating Keith (because let's face it, now that Keith just said what he said, he just signed his own death warrant haha). Short of Juvia personally stopping Gray, what I'd like is if her defeat of Keith broke the control somehow over Silver.

Although, now I'm not so sure Keith's defeat can make any difference with Silver if Deliora is possessing his corpse. Nor am I sure anymore that Keith actually reanimated Silver, since they showed hell's core, but considering Keith being the one who keeps mentioning Silver and now Gray, I'm going to hold the hope that Keith, Juvia, Gray and Silver are all connected. Especially as keith seems to know what exactly is currently going on with Silver and Gray. I'm taking that to mean that Keith really does have some kind of hold on Silver and can see what he sees somehow.

But, I don't want Keith's defeat to lead to Silver's death all over again.  Unless Gray would rather have his father die again, than to continue to serve as the vessel for Deliora of all demons.  Or, as I said. maybe there's still some aspect of Silver's real character still inside his body, and maybe Deliora constantly has to subdue him. Basically, I really want Silver to come out of this Deliora free and alive, but that seems pretty unlikely right now. It seems Gray will ultimately have to suffer through his father's death yet again. The guy can't catch a break, seriously.

Also, I'm glad Happy got that damn mushroom yanked off his head. Minerva is now 5% more likable than I found her in the last two chapters just for performing that simple task haha.

AND I'm so glad they went back to the threesome fight. Nothing really happened in it, though, Expect for Keith seriously pissing off Juvia. Speaking of Juvia, she has super-sensory Gray-sama powers now?! Amazing haha. ^^

Anyway, I don't see Gray seriously going through with using ice shell, but I also don't know exactly what/who will stop him. Again, I'd love it if it was Juvia, because how romantique, yes? ^__~ But if Gray's dad is still inside that body too, then it may be Silver himself who talks his son out of it. Or maybe a combination. Anyway, things just got SO GOOD, and I can smell serious character and Gruvia development ahead ohohohoho. ^-^
