I was unable to find any documentation on how he got his name. But check out those curls!
Papa made his debut in July 2014, coming in second in a Maiden Special at Del Mar. He was then entered into the Oak Tree Juvenile Turf Stakes and placed a respectable third. His third start, another Maiden Special, finally took him into his first trip to the winner's circle. His final race of 2014 was the G3 Cecil B. DeMille Stakes, where he placed 6th.
His first race for 2015 was on January 10th in the Sham Stakes, where he placed fifth. He was then entered into an Allowance which he won. Afterwards he won two stakes races in a row, the Pasadena Stakes and La Puente Stakes. In May he was shipped to his only race out of California, placing 7th in the Penn Mile Stakes at Penn National in Pennsylvania.
Papa has run in three more races since then back at Del Mar, but his best effort was a 4th place finish in the La Jolla Handicap back in September. It looks like he was given some time off as he didn't return to the track until December. He us currently posting about one workout a week at Santa Anita, his most recent was today, the 17th going 5 furlongs in 1:03.20.
