Papagajka, Sarajevo 2019

Papagajka
Crowdfunding Series: Papagajka
A stranger arrives in Sarajevo and barges into Damir's reclusive world. Little by little she takes over his life, even absorbing his dreams, until finally he ceases to exist.
Papagajka is an upcoming psychological thriller by director Emma Rozanski, who is currently leading a crowdfunding campaign for the film through Indiegogo. "A cautionary tale about apathy," the film explores the human transformation that is triggered through psychological conflict and the challenges one faces as the mind strives to survive trials of identity and self-awareness. Rozanski personally shares with A-BitterSweet-Life:
Making my first feature film is a scary and exciting thing to do, especially in Sarajevo where the weight of recent history is so strong and dominates the cultural and creative output of the country. I felt I wanted to make a film that could be anywhere, that explored the "outsider" because that is what I am here. There are many layers to my story so that it can be read as an eerie psychological thriller or as a metaphorical reflection on cultural and social colonialism--and many facets in between. In this way, it is coming from a place that I feel isn't imposing on a history that I haven't personally felt. Instead, it's drawing on my imagination and love of magic realism and the darkness of life to create something very personal yet universal.
I'm looking forward to the challenge of making a feature film here under the guidance of my mentor Béla Tarr. It will be an intense and rewarding process with a strange an interesting film as a result I'm sure.
