I arrived at NYC and travelled to Haarlem to stay with my Friend Devin. The last time I saw Devin we were eating La Barbecue the day before he left Austin to start his Master's program up here. That was around last July, I believe. It's good to see a familiar face in an unfamiliar territory. Devin doesn't drink. So instead of bar hopping he took me restaurant hopping instead. First we went to Joe's Pizza, which from what I can gather is a famous pizza joint. The walls were plastered with photographs of celebrities eating a slice of pizza pie with Joe. They also had a sign that mentioned that they were in a Spider-Man movie. I thought that was pretty neat. Second we went to a place called Pommes Frites. It sells only French fries and a variety of sauces to dip them in. I ended up ordering Mexican ketchup, which is ketchup, cilantro, jalapeños and onions. It was a delicious combination. Third we went to a hotdog place called Papaya Dog for a typical NYC hotdog. Just a simple frank, ketchup, mustard, onions and relish. Fourth we went to another hotdog place that also had a speakeasy, Crif Dogs. I ordered a dog called the Chihuahua. It was a bacon wrapped frank with avocado, sour cream, and salsa. It was a strange combination but still enjoyable. The speakeasy was behind a phone booth inside the restaurant. Fifth we went to a Thai shaved ice spot called Snowdays. I got a green tea shaved ice with condensed milk, coconut cream and some form of jellies. It was a great dessert to end the eating session. We took a variety of trains back to Harlem. Upon our exit of the station I found Mexican taco truck. I ordered an Horchata, I hadn't had any liquids form most of the night and I was craving it. I was surprised that it was open at 12am on a Monday. That was a good way to start the Unholy Waste Tour.
