The Seattle Freeze is so pervasive, we even have bee species that live all by themselves, and build nests underground.  I turned over a log in a funkier part of the backyard and found this delicate paper bee nest.  These are built by solo-living wild bees, really large ones, and they lay half a dozen eggs or so in these little structures, and leave them to hatch.
