--- The Writing ---
Mine, Mine, mine!
It was so obvious that it was all about you and yet it bothered you tremendously. He constantly kept looking over the shoulder of the girl he was talking to, meeting your eyes and smiling mischievously. He wanted your attention.
You forced yourself to look away, angry with yourself that you had again fallen into your boyfriend’s trap. Your friend noticed your frustration. She knew you could barely focus on the books in front of you, because your eyes kept wondering about your idiot of a player boyfriend. She gives Enzo a nasty glare and leans closer to you. “You have to do something about this. Teach him a lesson. Remind him who’s in charge.”
You chewed your bottom lip for a second pondering the idea. “Say I would want to get back at him, how would I do that? I’m dating a slytherin, he’s a mastermind when it comes down to playing little games like this. I’m not.” Your friend sighs and frowns for a moment as she thinks of a plan. Suddenly you notice a devilish smirk making its way upon your friend’s lips. “Oh, I know what we’re gonna do and it’s gonna be sooooo easy. Your boy ain’t ready for this.”
Step 1: a little too close to Theodore Nott
You sighed, you didn’t like it but your friend was right it was an easy three step plan. It started with Theo, he wasn’t one to flirt with every girl, but you were always fun to tease. Normally when he tried to get your attention you immediately turned to your boyfriend, ignoring Theo and earning an eye roll from him in return. Enzo always loved it, you didn’t give a single man attention. It was like he was the only one on the planet for you.
Today, however, it was game time. Theo’s lucky day. You were waiting for your boyfriend to finish glass and enter the slytherin common room. You had settled in a corner of one of the sofa’s and were deeply engaged with your newest novel when Theo came strutting in. You could hear Mattheo was following suit. The guys were discussing the upcoming quidditch game like lives depended on it.
Theo lets himself fall next to, not saying anything, but taking in your presence with intense eyes. When Draco enters he demands all of Mattheo’s attention, apparently Draco had a new quidditch strategy. This allows Theo to finally turn his attention to you fully. “Whatcha reading?” He sings leaning over to you, no shame in the closeness between you two. His interest immediately peaks when he doesn’t hear your usual scoff of rejection. You moisturize your lips with the tip of your tongue before turning to face Theo. “I don’t think it’s your kinda book.” Your eyes lock with his and he moves his arm to rest on the back of the sofa behind you. The intimate scene is timed perfectly, because just when Theo reaches for your book out of curiosity and you hide it a little Enzo walks in.
“It’s a girly book.” You giggle but Theo just leans close to you, now only a few inches away from your lips he gets a hold of the book, but you won’t let go. “Maybe that’s the kinda book I like to read.” Theo whispers.
“There’s no pictures in it so I don’t think so.” Enzo interrupts standing right in front of you and Theo. Your boyfriend’s eyes were focussed on Theo like he was the one who had stolen his candy. Theo smirks at Enzo and is about to say something smug by the look of his face, but Enzo doesn’t allow it. “You’re in my spot. Move.” Theo raises his hands in defence and scoots over. Enzo sits down, wraps an arm around you and spends the rest of the evening glaring at the thief in question. Mine!
Step 2: the boop on the nose with Draco Malfoy
It was the morning before the quidditch game against Hufflepuffs. Enzo was excited. Mattheo and Blaise were loud. Theo was missing and Draco, well… Draco was a nervous mess. The usual. Only today you had decided to support Draco as part of your three step plan of course. Enzo didn’t need a confidence boost, he was taunting some Hufflepuffs about how they were gonna cry after the game. So during breakfast you take a seat next to Draco.
“Draco, I saw you during training yesterday. You are so ready for this game.” He gives you a weak half smile for your encouragement and reaches for his orange juice but spills it all over his plate. “This did not just happen!” He curses as you watch him soak several napkins. “This is a sign, Harry and his friends are gonna pull some stunt and I will end up in the hospital wing again.” You frown. “But today’s game is against Hufflepuff.” Draco groans. “Yeah and still it’s gonna be Potter that gets me killed.” You see him tense up even more as he continues to fail to clean up the mess in front of him.
“Hey. Hey.” You grab Draco’s shoulders and turn him to face you. “Breathe. You stress every time and every time you are the best player in the air.” Enzo is now fully tuned in on your conversation with Draco. You give the slytherin in front of you a sweet smile. “I’ll be supporting you every minute of the game.” Draco sighs, letting some of the stress in his body go. “Still my head keeps spinning and I can’t stop it.”
You give the guy a mischievous smile. “I got just the thing for that.” You scoop up a tiny cloud of cream from one pastries presented on the table and boop Draco’s nose. Enzo’s eyes widen and his heart starts screaming of jealousy as he sees you lean it for the softest kiss. With one featherlight kiss you kiss away the cream on Draco’s nose. “Is your head still spinning?” Your voice is laced with innocence. Draco nods, his brain now fried, unable to think at all.
“What was that?” Enzo appears in front of you, his face fuming red, but you’re not in the least impressed. “I’m helping your friend relax. You should be thanking me, I’m helping the slytherin team win.” Enzo huffs and crosses his arms. “I- I don’t like it.” The whole table, including you, is a bit shocked by Enzo’s lame protest. He was suffering. He was freaking out. She’s mine. Mine!
With a pouty face and crossed arms Enzo sits down next to you. “I want you to eat cream off of me. I want sweet kisses.” You giggle at his mumble, like a kid who can’t admit he wants something. You ruffle a playful hand through his hair. “Oh does my big shot boyfriend need me?” You tease and Enzo nods. “Yes. You need to support me every minute of the game. Or I’ll fall off my broom.” You chuckle and shake your head, before turning to your plate.
Step 3: Mattheo Riddle fangirl all the way
After the quidditch game all you wanted to do was rush to Enzo’s side, but your friend had other plans. “Oh no. Not happening. Remember when you were all stressed about your test and he was busy getting you all jealous and insecure? Pay back time.” You had honestly forgotten about it, but now that you remembered you were still pretty pissed about it. Your friend dragged you to the field, not to congratulate your boyfriend, but Mattheo Riddle on his epic game. Mattheo had played an impressive quidditch game against Hufflepuff. He had his suspicions about what game you were playing with Enzo but he didn’t care why you were suddenly by his side instead of Enzo’s, he was just enjoying the attention he was getting.
Enzo was celebrating the slytherin victory with Blaise, doing dorky dances on the field in front of the Hufflepuffs who were too nice to do anything about it. However when he spotted you talking to Mattheo near the barracks he stopped moving, leaving Blaise to awkwardly dance on his own. Even though the crowd was still loud he could hear your laugh, but unlike normally it didn’t warm his heart, it stung.
You laugh at Mattheo’s stupid joke and place a hand on his strong biceps. Damn, he loved whatever game you were playing. Mattheo snakes an arm around you and pulls you close. His soft lips brush your ear. “Trying to get back at your boyfriend for being an idiot?” You bite your bottom lip and look up to Mattheo through your lashes. “Maybe. Is it working?” The youngest Riddle pulls you against his chest. “Maybe… but if it doesn’t you can always-” Mattheo is thrown onto the grass and you turn around to see your boyfriend with an unamused experience. “Mine.”
You roll your eyes and walk away, but Enzo follows suit and pushes you under the stands. “Stop playing games, (y/n).” Enzo says sternly and his double standards really annoy you now.
“Why does it bother you? You play games with me all the time.” You cross your arms.
“Why? Why does it bother me? Because you’re mine! Not Theo’s, not Draco’s, definitely not Mattheo’s. Mine!” You stare at him with wide eyes. You had never seen this side of him. It was like he was about to lose all of his sanity. Enzo falls silent after realising how harsh his tone was. “See what you’ve done to me. You can’t play games with me. You know I would never leave you. I would be a fool to even think of another girl, but you… no one would call you insane or stupid if you decided to find someone else tomorrow so you don’t get to play games.” You frown. “What happened to the overconfident Lorenzo Berkshire I know.” Enzo shrugs like a kid being asked why he painted on the wall. You tilt your head urging him to answer your question. “There’s no confident Enzo if your eyes aren’t on me. As soon as something else catches your attention I’m a lost boy, okay?”
He pulls you into a bear hug that lasts an eternity before he parts and meets your eyes with an unexpected seriousness. “I’m done playing games to get your attention. Next time I’m just gonna wrap you in my arms whenever I feel like it.” You smile proudly. “Seems like a healthier way of communicating.” Enzo bites his lip, enjoying your smile and sparkly eyes. Mine
Forced marriage trope where you're both oblivious to each other's feelings. (+/- 4770 words)
In this story you’re either a Slytherin or friends with the Slytherin skittles, because I love some silly Slytherin banter. 💛 Happy readings!
0. Intro
The Potters were liberal wizards so it surprised you more than anything in the world when they silenced their protesting son. “You will marry her.” Your now fiancé’s gaze moved from his father to you. The absolute horror in James’ beautiful and normally cheerful eyes was sure to haunt you for eternity. “Over my dead body!” He shouted with a never heard before harshness. He aggressively slammed the napkin he had been holding onto the table and left the dining room.
“That can be arranged.” Your father mumbled with a gruff tone of annoyance. He had every right to be offended, his daughter was just rejected by a Potter. If it wasn’t for the Potter wealth, James would’ve never been considered as a possible suitor for you. Your mother padded your father’s hand. “He’s just shy, dear.” You raised your eyebrows. James Potter, shy? Yeah, right. James Potter was a lot of things… Shy was not one of them. You forced an awkward smile and gently nodded to the Potters, who were obviously embarrassed about the scene. “I’m sure he’ll come around.” His mother offered with a shaky voice.
You knew James had a flair for the dramatics and he was probably not prepared for a situation like this like you were. You knew from a young age that this would happen. Slytherins and most rich purebloods rarely got to choose who they married. You had just never expected it to be James Potter. You had nothing against him. He was good looking and he was known to be a kind guy. A bit of an idiot, but no brute that would hurt you. However, you were definitely worried about the start of the new academic year.
POV James arguing in your defence. “No one should be forced to marry. She doesn’t love. She deserves to be with someone she loves.”
I. Plan A and B
You frowned as you wondered if they really believed they were being subtle when you could obviously hear the muffled whispers. Your best friend chuckled as she leaned against the bookcase you were scanning in search of a book you needed for an essay. “Your fiance is a moron.” You sigh and turn to look at James, Sirius, Peter and Remus huddled together whispering and looking at you. When they notice you’re looking at them they all look away at the same time. “Hopeless.” You roll your eyes and turn your back to them to face your friend. “Oh, he’s coming over.” Your friend says and is quick to abandon you.
“Hi.” James says with a goofy awkward smile. “Hi, fiancé.” You joke and he chuckles, looking at the floor. James had felt like a piece of shit after leaving the dinner party the way he did. He knew he had handled it wrong, but apologizing and making it right seemed like an impossible task.
He had prepared a speech with his friends to explain his awful behaviour and apologise, but now that he stood in front of you he just went blank. After a second of you giving him a questioning look he just blurted out: “So what’s the plan?”
You press your lips together and raise your brows. “Well. Plan A is to find a better match and convince my parents to discard the deal standing with your family.” James nods slowly, seemingly deep in thought. “Reasonable.” He eventually says raising his shoulders in approval. “Plan B is I murder you right after the wedding so there’s no wedding night but I still get to be a widow.” James’ jaw falls for a second, but he’s quick to gather himself. He chuckles, a bit uncomfortable. “Also reasonable.” You give him a forced and overly bright smile, before pushing past him.
With you gone his friends approach a shocked James. “So how did it go?” Remus asks, curiosity lingering in all three of their eyes. “Well, I think she might be planning… like… my murder.” Sirius inhales deeply, giving the impression that he’s about to make a serious deduction. “Sounds like real marriage to me.” Remus and Peter roll their eyes and James scoffs and runs a hand over his face, before nervously ruffling up his hair.
From a distance you bite your lip watching your handsome fiancé stress about what you had just told him. Considering his prejudices about the slytherin pureblood families he probably really thought you were capable of killing him. Truth was you were well aware that he was a catch, but you also made no illusions he would run off and disappear before marrying you.

“What?!” Lily yells at James. “You said what?!” She repeats her questions and slaps him with the evening paper she was holding. Marlene can’t contain her laughter any longer as Lily groans. Sirius sticks up for his friend who just lets himself fall onto the common room sofa. “In his defence, it is a weird situation.” Marlene’s eyebrows knit together and Sirius knows that a sassy comment is incoming. “Only because he made it weird.”
“Why can’t men communicate?” Marlene turns to Lily who just raises her shoulders in response. “Hey, hey. Men are right here.” Remus says, but he takes a step back when both women glare in his direction.
“James.” Lily starts again, but this time James isn’t taking it anymore. “No! It’s not just weird. It is wrong. Forced marriage is a horrible thing. She should not be forced to marry anyone.” There’s a pause and James sighs, before continuing. “It’s horrible that I’ve always been against this sort of thing and that I should be by her side helping her fight for her freedom, but instead I wanna go: ‘hi, forcing people to marry is horrible but you’re gorgeous and intelligent… and way out of my league ssoo maybe give my sorry ass a chance and marry me. It’s not weird, it’s wrong, it’s hypocrisy! And I’m against hypocrisy.”
Marlene nods in agreement. “So dump her, do the right thing.” James panics and shakes his head aggressively. “No! No, Marlene! No! She could be the one.” Lily presses her lips together to keep herself from laughing at James’ dramatics. “Besides, dumping isn’t really an option. A deal has been made.” Sirius explains. “She’s planning on finding someone better to marry.” James reveals your earlier discussed plans. “I thought she was planning on murdering you?” Peter questions dryly. “Yeah that was plan B. Plan A is to replace me and not kill me. Which proves that she has a kind heart.”
“Not making ‘killing you’ plan A does make her perfect wife material.” Lily jokes to the amusement of everyone but James.
II. Hope for love
Remus, Lily and Marlene were watching James nervously tap his pen against the table as he watched you sit with your friends. Marlene groans. “James.” No reactions. “James!” Her target looked up, the utter confusion made everyone have mercy on the guy. “Go talk to her.” She says pointing at you. “Yeah, I should talk to her.” James sighs, but doesn’t move and just continues to tap his pen. “Look, her friends are leaving. This is your moment.” Lily points out, encouraging her friend. James nods, but still doesn’t move. Making his friends roll their eyes. Then suddenly James jumps up, closing his book, and making his way over to you. “Oh boy.” Remus watches nervously.
You're surprised when James approaches you from the other side of the library. “Can I sit?” He asks politely and you nod. “Of course.” He finds the sweetness in your voice endearing. There’s a silence as James takes a deep breath and you watch him curiously. “Sooo, Sirius Black.” Your eyebrows knit together. “Pureblood. Nice guy. Good looking. Kinda single.” You frown at the last bit, wondering what that last one is supposed to mean, but you decide not to ask since it doesn’t matter. “Not really my type.” James nods, relieved with your answer. He would hate to have you date his best friends, but he needed to come up with something to make it look like he was on your side.
James scans the room looking for another guy that you probably wouldn’t like, thus making himself look like the better option to you. You on the other hand aren’t interested in James’ suggestions for a possible future husband. You wished he would just like you. “Look James, don’t worry about it. You won’t have to marry me if you don’t want to. We’ll find a way out of this.” You place your hand on his upper arm to reassure him that it will all be alright, but the warmth makes you both fall silent.
He looks at your hand on his arm and his eyes meet you in a deep and intense way, making you wonder what it must be like to kiss this man or be with him. His arm is muscular and you can’t help but bite your lip, telling yourself to not get any ideas. He had no intention of marrying you. James feels his heart squeeze when you look away. His eyes rest on your blushed cheeks. Why are you so perfect? Why are you so close and yet so unreachable?
POV James watching you, mesmerised by you.
From afar Remus, who had been watching, gives Lily a shove with his elbow. “Are you seeing this?” He whispers never taking his eyes of you and James. It was so crystal clear that he couldn’t believe it. “Oh my god.” Lily mumbles, followed by Marlene turning around to see what her friends were looking at.
***
“She likes you.” Remus explains excitedly as they rush to their next class. He’s happy for his friend, but James just shakes his head. “What are you talking about?” Lily wastes no time chiming in. “We saw it with our own eyes. The two of you were sitting so close and you were both looking at each other in this way… you know the way people who like each other look at each other.” Marlene nods. “Like Remus and Sirius.” Remus turns around to face Marlene and Lily, shaking his head. “Shut up.” James doesn’t join in with Lily and Marlene’s giggling, his head occupied with you all the time. Then James also turns around to face his friends, walking backwards so as not to be late for class. “Look, I get that you guys want to be supportive, but don’t give me hope where there is none.” With those words he enters the classroom and sits next to Peter, knowing that he’s the least likely one to taunt him or ask further questions.
Lily sighs, disappointed with James’ reluctance to see the obvious. Marlene forces her lips into an awkward line as she follows James’s figure. “Can’t believe I’m friends with stupid.” Remus shakes his head. “None of us had noticed until today. Give it time, everything will fall into place.” At those words Marlene's lips turn devilishly sharp. “Or maybe…” Lily’s eyes sparkle with excitement. Remus’ heart starts racing as his anxiety peaks. “I’ve been looking all around the castle for you guys.” Sirius’s chest heaves, arriving just as class is about to start, making Remus frown. “Hah, just the man I need.” Marlene sings and Sirius smiles like a happy puppy having no idea what’s going on, but always happy to be a part of it.
III. An almost-victory-party
You were hurrying towards the grand hall to meet up with your friends for dinner, taking big steps as you wondered what the house elves had prepared today. You smiled as you watched your friends bickering about something while they were waiting for you near the entrance of the great hall. You waved at them, but just that instant Sirius jumped in front of you seemingly out of nowhere. He startled you and you took a step back. He smiled wickedly and winked. “No need to be scared, it’s only me. I don’t bite.” You roll your eyes and offer him a lopsided smile. “So, what has you jumping around today?”
“I’m here to kindly invite you to our victory party, tomorrow night. 10pm, be there.” You grin and cross your arms. “Don’t victory parties require a victory to celebrate?” Sirius looks pleased with your question. “It’s a Gryffindor victory party, so the victory is always guaranteed… and so is the party.” He walks away backwards, his happy smug smile shining bright as he points to you. “Be there, your future husband’s expecting you.” Your smile falls at those words, but he doesn’t notice as he turns around strutting away in the direction of the great hall. Of course he had told Sirius, you had guessed as much. You expected all of his friends to know, but you didn’t think they would speak of it. You had hoped for a silent agreement to not speak of it once at Hogwarts and here Sirius had said it out loud. You silently prayed that no one had overheard Sirius and you talking.
However, your heart started raising a little as you wondered what James had said and whether it was James’ idea to invite you, since according to Sirius James was expecting you. Maybe James would make an effort to try and make this whole marriage thing work. Maybe you could make him fall in love with you and have this beautiful love story. You sighed. Merlin, I’m silly. You raised your head and saw your friends wave at you and so you hurried to their side.
“What did Sirius want?” Barty asked as he scrunched his nose. “Apparantly the Gryffindors are planning a victory party after tomorrow’s game.” His jaw dropped. “How humble of them.” Evan rolled his eyes, not waisting words on the Gryffindors today, and you giggled as you entered the great hall with them.
Sirius, who had already taken his place next to James, leans towards him. “See, she looks happy to be invited.” James looks up to you through his lashes afraid to get caught staring. That smile. Don’t ever stop smiling, darling. You are so beautiful. Lily couldn’t hide her smile as she exchanged looks with Sirius over James’ staring. James noticed Sirius shift to stifle a laugh and pulled his eyes away from you and back to the soup in front of him. “None of this is funny. No laughing.” Remus frowned. “You’re starting to sound like McGonagoll.” Peter chuckled and mimicked her voice. “Laughing? No laughing. You should all be studying.” The table burst out into laughter as Peter nervously looked away from McGonagoll, staring him down with a raised eyebrow.
POV Your fiancé not so subtly staring at you.
Between all the laughter James couldn’t resist looking up to you sitting a little further. You had your eyes on the rowdy group of Gryffindors, narrowing your eyes as you tried to figure out what was going on there. When your eyes landed on James looking at you, your heart skipped a beat. You offered him a smile and gave him enough confidence to wink at you. His focus returned to his friends. He was grateful for their help, maybe they were right and he really had a chance with you. And no matter how small of a chance he wouldn’t be James Potter if he didn’t at least try to win your heart.
***
“I beg of you, taaaakee meeee withhh yooouuuu.” Barty pleaded for the tenth time. Regulus entered your dorm and frowned, immediately annoyed with Barty’s whining. “What’s he on about?” The youngest Black brother asks as he hands you the book he had borrowed from you. “She’s taking me to the Gryffindor victory party.” Barty’s smug eyes shone bright with amusement. “But they lost?” Regulus points out looking confused. “Exactly.” Barty’s smile was filled with toothy childish happiness. You take the book and thank Regulus. Regulus flicks his tongue as your eye roll confirms that Barty was speaking the truth. “Your humble fiancé’s idea probably.” Your back is turned to both men as you put your book away, so you have a moment to cover up your displeasure with their mockery. Most of your friends called James Potter arrogant but you always thought of him as… confident.
“I just wanna go over there and rub it in their faces. I mean who loses to Hufflepuffs.” Barty was thrilled with excitement at the idea of going to this party. “They almost won. And the Hufflepuffs are great this year. They’ll probably win the cup.” Barty snorted like you had just told him unicorns don’t exist. “So it’s an almost-victory-party. Those are fun as well, I hear.” Regulus looks up through his lashes, cheeky smile barely suppressed. You force your lips into a line and narrow your eyes. “Both of you out.” Regulus raises his hands in surrender as he backs away to the door. “I am still coming with, right? Right?” Barty started again. “Out.” You say flicking your wand to give him a little shove through the door opening.
Your head fell as you worried about whether it was such a good idea to go to the party. James had looked so upset after he lost the game. He had looked up at you when he pushed Sirius, who was trying to console him, away. Your eyes had trailed him as he marched to the barracks.
You sighed and turned to the mirror. Not showing your face was not an option. With one spell your outfit changed to a casual party blouse and skirt. You twirled around. And then changed your outfit another four times.
***
“A victory party?” Remus grumbled. “Why couldn't you have just organised a party? Why did it have to be a victory party?” Sirius looked Remus up and down, judging him for his stupid question. “Because… because I was feeling good about the game. Besides, we can still turn this into a victory party.” Sirius turns around to be confronted with a bunch of sulky housemates leaning against the walls, discussing Marlene’s gooey cocktails.
Sirius sighed, but turned confident quickly, placing his hands on his sides. “Where’s James? We’ll turn this party up.” Remus and Peter exchanged looks before Peter pointed to James sitting curled up in a lonely armchair staring out the window. Sirius’ eyes widened in horror before he scrunched his nose in disgust of the image he was seeing. “Lily!” Sirius cried out like a kid needing his mother. Lily threw her head back, but arrived by her friends’ side anyway. “We need a victory.” Lily nodded but the sass on her face was clear as day. “Yes, any victories laying around the castle?” Sirius narrowed his eyes at Lily’s attitude. “Alright Padfoot, I might have an idea. Lils just… try to do something about…” Remus pointed at a sulky James stirring his drink like he was trying to get the drink dizzy. “that.”
Remus pushed Sirius and Peter to the door. “What’s the plan?” Sirius asked curious as to how Remus was going to fix this mess of an evening. “Well. We have a party, but no victory. And as far as I know the Hufflepuffs have a victory but no party. Sooo…” Peter looked confused. “So we’re gonna throw the Hufflepuffs a party for their victory against us?” Remus continued to push his friends in the direction of the door. “Yeah, well, I prefer throwing the Hufflepuffs a party than mourning our team at this funeral. Now hurry before the guest of honor gets here.”
***
When you arrived James hadn’t pulled himself together and Sirius, Peter and Remus hadn’t returned, so you were welcomed by a very nervous Lily. “Hi! Howdy! Hi!” You nodded and smiled, greeting her kindly in the hopes of calming her nerves. You honestly pitied them, especially when your eyes found James. Lily was looking around to make conversation, but you interrupted her with a polite smile. “I’m gonna check in on James. He looked really upset earlier.” Lily bit her lip and gave you an awkward thumbs up. “Good luck.”
POV: “Oh? … Hi.”
You took a seat opposite of where James was sitting and James’ eyes went wide, like he had just woken up from an ages long slumber. “Oh? … Hi.” You chuckled at his surprise. “Crappy game huh?” Caught off guard by your laugh and your directness James opened his mouth and closed it just quickly. “Yeah, you could say that.” He gave you a tinlipped smile and looked around. “Can I offer you a drink? I’ll make it. Marlene couldn’t mix a drink properly if her life depended on it.” James was as enchanted by your beautiful smile as he was horrified by the flopped party. He had been too self-absorbed to notice and stopped in his tracks now that he saw only a few people having fun. “I’m guessing the party still needs to arrive to the party.” James joked nervously as he felt embarrassed.
“Don’t worry about it, James. Almost-victory-parties always start a little slow.” The way you said his name rang in James’ ears. He looked so dreamy that you had to call him out for it. “What?” You questioned with a chuckle. “Just thinking of how lucky your future husband will be.” Your smile faded and your eyes flung up to meet his adoring ones. He took a step closer and the intensity of the moment made your heart pound. “Optimistic, gorgeous, intelligent and so, so kind to everything and everyone around her.” Your tongue lightly licked your lips as you took his words to heart. You felt your hand tremble a bit but decided not to cower. “James-”
“Party!” A happy Hufflepuff yelled as he entered the Gryffindor Common room, followed by Sirius, Remus and Peter and a whole lot of overexcited Hufflepuffs.
IV. The freedom to love
After that one evening where you had almost told James about your feelings for him, you hadn’t found another moment to talk to him. Despite the fact that you both spent more time together and your feelings growing even stronger, talking to him about what really mattered seemed more difficult than ever.
James could feel his heart break as you laughed at one of his silly jokes. It was cruel how it seemed like you were growing closer and yet you were even further out of reach then before. Time to grow up, James. Time to do the right thing and set her free instead of hoping for an impossible love story. Without telling his friends, who were planning another move to get you both together, James wrote a letter to your father to set a meeting. The walk to the owlery weighed heavy on his heart.
Once he arrived at the owlery he noticed Regulus flipping through some letters. Without giving James so much as a look, Regulus greeted James. “Potter.” James nodded curtly, not in the mood to entertain any slytherin games. James greeted his owl and expressed his concern about the weather to his beloved owl, making Regulus roll his eyes.
“Mailing the parents in law, are we?” James felt caught and turned around startled to see Regulus leaning against one of the walls. “How do you know?” Regulus raised his eyebrows and tilted his head in annoyance. “I can read.” James turned to his owl holding the letter with the address clearly written on the envelope. “Your big head really is empty.” Regulus chuckled to himself and James turned away, ignoring the younger Black, who was already making his way to the door. “I really don’t know how she does it, put up with you. (y/n) must be a saint or-” Regulus cut himself off and fell silent. “Or what?” James’ curiosity was coated in hope. Regulus turned around nonchalantly, observing James carefully. Love. But what do I know about that? Regulus cast his eyes down, he wasn’t going to say that four letter word in the presence of a man so clearly struggling. “Ask her. I don’t know everything.” Regulus spat, acting cold and uncaring again.
James turned to stare at his owl holding the letter addressed to your parents. Ask her. Ask her what? If she loves me. If she could ever be happy being married to me? James closed his eyes and sighed, deciding against it and bringing his owl to a nearby opening so it could fly.
It doesn’t matter. You should be free… to love me… or not.

“(y/n)! (y/n)!” Lily came running down to the great hall and you looked up instantly worried about what had her so panicked. “It’s James.” Was all Lily needed to say to get you up from your chair. “What? Is he alright?” Lily took a breath. “He’s talking to your father and I think he’s being stupid.” Barty snorted. “Of course he’s being stupid. It’s James bloody Potter.” Your dead glare frightened Barty to the core. Never had he seen this side of you. “They’re at the wooden bridge. You should check- see what’s going on.” You nodded and left without saying a word.
Regulus watched you hurry, the worry clearly reflected in your eyes. Maybe I know more about love than I give myself credit for, ‘cause that’s clearly love.
When you closed in on the bridge you could already hear the two men argue. Your heart started pounding and the air in your lungs seemed stuck there.
“You will marry my daughter, you ungrateful fool!” Your father yelled and the whole bridge seemed to shake as his anger vibrated in his words.
You arrived by James’ side, but keeping your distance as to hear out what James had to say.
“I will not.” James said firmly. You studied his every expression as you couldn’t believe that he was suddenly so mature and serious. “Allow me to explain.” James’ voice was calm and your eyes were wide and glassy. You didn’t want to hear how he didn’t love you or about how he was in love with another and therefore couldn’t be with you.
“I will not hear it.” Your father snapped furiously, but James was unmoved. When your father turned away from you both, James pulled out his wand and you gasped. “Listen to me!” James demanded and your father turned back to face you again. His eyes firmly locked onto James’ wand.
POV James declaring his love and setting you free.
“Your daughter is an amazing woman. She’s one of those people that love fearlessly and she spreads joy wherever she goes. She should marry someone that she can love, adore and cherish every day of her life. She deserves to wake up with someone by her side that she loves with her whole heart and that loves her with every fiber of their being… and-” James’ eyes made their way to you. “And I might love her like that, with every piece of my soul, but she does not…” James turned away from you as he couldn’t stand to look at you as he had to let you go. “And that is why I will fight for her freedom, freedom to love someone and be loved by someone she choses.”
“James.” You breathe out now that you can finally feel the air in your lungs again. When James follows your voice to meet your eyes he notices your teary eyes. In a split second you close the distance between you two. Your hands cupping his cheeks as you pull him in for a passionate kiss, a kiss that screamed everything you felt for him. “I love you. Marry me.” Your words make James lower his wand and kiss you back, while one arm snakes around you to pull you close. After another kiss that felt like fireworks James pulled away about an inch from your lips, eyes focussed on yours. “You love me? You want to marry me?” There’s confusion mixed with happiness in his eyes. “Yes of course, how could I not love you. You are so easy to love James Potter.” James’ nose brushed your as his lips moved to your ear. “Then I will love you with every piece of my soul for all eternity.”
Your lips found his again, but you quickly parted from James when you heard your father clear his throat. “I guess I will just forget about this whole argument and continue planning the wedding as foreseen?” James nodded awkward, but unable to hide his happiness. “Yes, that would be nice.” He turned to you to seek confirmation. “That would be really nice.” Your father nodded sternly and walked away. “A bit of a bad start with my father-in-law, I fear.” You shook your head. “You raised your wand against him.” James smiled meekly. “I would do anything for you to be happy.” Forced to marry but oh so easy to love, James Potter.
A game of spin the bottle with your brother’s best friend, what could possibly go wrong?
I’m sorry I missed the deadline of Hogmarch’s first week by a day, but I battled a migraine to finish this today so that’s gotta count for something right, right? Anyways, I was so happy when I saw the Hogmarch post because it instantaneously gave me inspiration! A big thanks to @thatdammchickennugget , hogmarch is amazing and so are you! 💛
Happy readings everyone and good vibes for the new week!
Theodore Nott was a rather mysterious character at Hogwarts, but one thing was very clear to everyone that knew him. His sister was off limits.
Mattheo considered Theo one of his closest friends. The astronomy tower and the night sky had heard many of their calmly shared secrets. Theo liked to talk about how lonely he found Hogwarts and Mattheo carelessly ranted about his anger towards everyone’s judgement of him.
But despite Mattheo’s friendship with Theo, he had been struggling to respect his one rule. You had always been on his mind, but you seemed out of reach and that made it possible for Mattheo to keep any thoughts of you buried. However, last summer when he stayed at Nott manor you had literally snuck up on him.
Theo and Blaise had had one drink too many and had fallen asleep. Leaving Mattheo alone, standing at the balcony of Theo’s room. You had conveniently flown by, hoping to catch a glimpse of Mattheo, but instead you had found him all by himself. “Hi stranger.” You whispered, making Mattheo spin around.
It was that evening of talking and giggling that took over Mattheo’s mind when he saw you settle down with your friends for a game of spin the bottle. Your brother had disappeared with a beautiful girl and he probably wouldn’t be returning any time soon. Mattheo weighed his options. Should he?
Well, she’s set on playing the game anyway and if she’s going to kiss someone tonight, it might as well be me.
Of course Mattheo wasn’t going to leave anything to chance. The bottle was enchanted even before he sat down in the circle. You had a suspicion when Mattheo gave you a lobbed smile. Trademark Slytherin Trouble.
You nervously watched as Pansy gave the bottle a spin. You could feel your face heat up as Mattheo’s eyes kept finding yours. You missed Pansy’s blush when the bottle landed on Blaise Zabini, because you were too busy wondering if you would get a chance to kiss Mattheo. Surely your brother couldn’t be angry about a simple game of spin the bottle.
Mattheo eagerly reached for the bottle, claiming this turn. His eyes once again moving to you right before he spun the bottle made it clear to everyone in the circle that Mattheo’s intentions were set on you.
However, to everyone’s surprise there was no worry to be detected in your eyes, but rather a hint of anticipation.
By the time the bottle had magically landed on you, both of you were too occupied with each other to notice Theodore calmly watching with his arms crossed. Surely, Matt knew to not try anything funny. If it was Enzo, then Theo would’ve already intervened. But Mattheo, he trusted. Theo was confident that Mattheo would give his little sister a peck on the cheek and say something witty to blow off any comments from bystanders.
You both crawled over to each other, meeting in the middle of the circle, and to your brother’s horror Mattheo’s hand went to the back of your head as he pulled you in for a long and passionate kiss. A kiss that you didn’t want to ever end, so you softly bit his lip, lengthening the kiss by just a few seconds.
Enzo who had seen Theo walk in, just as the game of spin the bottle became very heated, ignored the flirty girl in front of him and gave Blaise, who now sat next to him with Pansy, a shove. “This is bad.” Blaise turns just in time to see Theo pull Mattheo from the circle. “Theo, no!” Your protest echoes through the common room as your brother’s fist hits Mattheo’s nose.
“No, no, no, no.” You protest as you get up, reaching to push yourself between the two. But Blaise, always quick to react, pulls Theo away and puts some distance between him and Mattheo with one forceful shove.
“Calm down T, it’s just a game.” Blaise barks, while using all his strength and weight to keep Theo back. Blaise hopes that the doubt he feels about his argument was not heard in his voice or seen in his eyes, because he had been worried for a while now that Mattheo struggled to keep his eyes off you.
“Game or not! Paws of my sister, Riddle!” Theo spits with a venomous growl as he swung an angry arm out, still held back by Blaise.
“Or what?” Mattheo’s voice wasn’t just angry, it was cold and dark. Within the blink of an eye you saw Mattheo’s wand pointed at your brother and Blaise who was still holding him back. Mattheo’s hand didn't shake, he was radiating confidence as he patiently waited for your brother to give the wrong answer.
This time you did intervene and without hesitation despite your fear. Mattheo tried to stay away from his family’s habits as much as possible, but he was and would always be a Riddle when it came down to it.
“Matt, it’s Theo.” Your eyes carried so much pain in them for having to remind Mattheo who he was threatening: his friend, your brother and the guy who had stood by him more than any other.
But your words didn’t register, not until you laid your hand on his stretched arm. His eyes flickered to you, his jaw still clenched. Slowly he lowered his wand and it was like the room could breathe again.
Blaise could finally let go of Theo, since he had calmed down to the point where his breathing was steadying but his furious eyes were still focused on Mattheo.
Draco, whose eyes watched Theo carefully to assess exactly how explosive the situation still was, handed Mattheo a handkerchief. “Go clean up.” He said to Mattheo, getting Mattheo out of the room with a good excuse seemed like the best way to defuse the tension.
Without a word or any emotion to you, Mattheo left. He disappeared in the crowd that had looked on and would surely gossip about this for weeks. Salazar, I hate this place.
The bleeding had stopped but he still looked crappy when he arrived at the astronomy tower. When Mattheo saw his brother there, he sighed and rolled his eyes. The urge to turn around was there, but he had no place to go. Tom looked from the corner of his eyes, not amused either that he had a visitor on this quiet night, but he immediately turns to his younger brother when he notices the blood.
After a moment of silence, Tom takes a last drag from his cigarette and speaks up calmly. “Care to explain the blood?” Mattheo, now seated on the ground leaning against a wall and watching the stars, simply shrugs. Tom turns back to the night view and glances with annoyance when there’s no response.
“I kissed (y/n).” Mattheo sighs, disappointed with himself for betraying Theo and disappointed with Theo for not seeing that this could be a good thing. Tom has a pleased smirk on his face as he turns his head to his brother. Why does he always do reckless things like this? “Was it worth it?” Mattheo is caught off guard by this question, but he immediately knows the answer. “Yeah.” Mattheo’s voice is soft, showing the vulnerability and softness that he usually hides from everyone.
Tom flicks his cigarette bud into the distance and heads for the stairs, but not before stopping where his brother is sitting to give some brotherly advice. “Make sure she knows that and make sure he knows as well.”
Mattheo thinks over his brother's words as he hears his footsteps fade away, but before they have fully faded they stop. “Yeah, he’s up there.” Mattheo’s hard starts racing as his brother’s steps fade but new ones approach.
“Matt!” The relief when you see Mattheo makes your eyes a little watery. You sit down next to him, a gentle hand strokes his face. “I’m so sorry about this. I-” A heartfelt kiss interrupts you, but you don’t mind. You can taste the longing and you love it. How badly you have been wanting Mattheo to long for you, to feel his passion and now it was even better than you had imagined.
When Mattheo finally parts your eyes are dreamy and his are gentle. “I’m not sorry, (y/n).” He whispers, his voice raspy.
With those words all your worries disappear and your lips meet his again. You move closer to him until you have him startled between your legs. “Me neither.” You half whisper, half moan between kisses.

--- The Writing ---
Slytherin meets cat
You had one rule as an animagus. Only change in your dorm with all doors closed. It was the only way to keep it a secret. Transforming in any other situation was dangerous. You had recently become an animagus and not at all ready to tell your friends, leave alone the rest of Hogwarts. But at this moment your one rule seemed impossible. You had hurt your paw earlier when jumping staircases like you actually had nine lives. You had tried to make it as far as possible on three legs, but you weren’t experienced enough to manage it. You were hurting and needed a break. Walking on two legs would save your right paw, also your right hand, from having to pressure it any further. You hurry to the best of your ability to a half open door, leading to what you believe is an empty classroom.
You manage to jump on one of the desks and scan the room. Empty.
Mattheo
Mattheo tilts his head from the wall he’s leaning against, cigarette loosely between his fingers. His eyes linger on the cat, gracefully sitting on the desk. The school day and detention had been long and this quiet moment with the cat as a silent companion brought a surprising feeling of peace to his mind and heart, but not for long…
You turn back to your human form, a soft hiss leaving your lips as you can finally support your right wrist. You squeeze it gently and caress it hoping to ease the pain a bit. You were only wearing an oversized t-shirt so you had to regain your strength so you could turn back to your animagus form to finish your journey to your dorm. You were too focused on your pain and the fact that you had to turn back as soon as possible to notice Mattheo gawking. It’s only when he shifts slightly to get rid of his cigarette that you notice something in the corner of your eye.
You jump up and Mattheo immediately raises his hands to reassure you. “It’s me. Relax. You’re okay.” You're holding your wrist tightly and he can see the absolute fear in your eyes. “You didn’t see anything.” You ask but it sounds more like a statement instead of a question and he just nods. “Nothing.” He calms you, but you know he was there the whole time. “I didn’t see you. The classroom was empty. How did I not see you?” Mattheo takes a few steps closer. “Don’t worry about that. You’re hurt.” Mattheo’s eyes move to your hand tightly wrapped around your pained wrist.
You look at your wrist, like you had forgotten all about it for a second. “You’re Mattheo Riddle.” You whisper when realisation hits you about who you’re talking to. He’s hurt by how much more frightened you look right now. He had a mad crush on you but had always kept his distance. You hung out with different people and he honestly didn’t know if you were afraid of him because of his last name or his general bad boy reputation.
“Let me take you to the medical wing. They can take care of you there.” Mattheo offered and you just looked at him with confused eyes. He was infamous for causing trouble and not caring about a soul, but here he was gentle and helpful. “No, I’m fine.” You answer without even considering his offer for help. He looks a bit hurt, but you just clench your jaw and turn around. “I need to return to my animagus form to get to my dorm.” Mattheo frowns. “Are you sure that’s a good idea? I mean I don’t think you should put weight on your wrist- leg- paw- you know what I mean.” You can’t help but chuckle.
“I can’t exactly walk out like this.” You say sheepishly, turning a little red as you refer to your lack of clothing. Mattheo scans you carefully, making you a little uncomfortable. “I’ll be fine.” You manage to say with slight confidence. “No.” Mattheo immediately protests. “I have a better idea.”
“I’ll carry you.”
Your little cat heart was racing and you wondered if Mattheo could feel it as he was holding your cat form carefully in his arms. “Almost there.” He whispered with a tender voice and you actually allowed yourself to enjoy his warmth as you rested your head against his upper arm. Walking around hurting had worn you out, so it was nice to have someone carry you figuratively and literally.
Mattheo ignored the weird looks he got from people who had never guessed him for a cat person. When he arrived at the hospital wing he put you on one of the beds. Madame Pomfrey was about to lose it when she thought Mattheo had brought in a cat, but before she could yell at the slytherin she saw you turn into your human form. “Miss (y/l/n)?”
You were surprised by how sad you were when Pomfrey sent Mattheo away. So with your wrist healed up you decided the first thing to do was search for him. At the very least you should properly thank him for taking care of you. With all fours functioning again, you could quickly move around the castle and you had a pretty good idea where the slytherin might be held up.
As you arrived at the astronomy tower you were pleased to see that Blaise was saying his goodbyes to Mattheo. “I mean it, Matt, not too late. If you fall asleep in class and lose us house points again Draco will hurt you and I won’t stop him.” Mattheo chuckled and leaned back a bit, turning his head to yell at Blaise as he was walking down the stairs. “Alright, mum!”
With Mattheo all alone you quietly tip toe to him and sit next to him. It takes him a second to notice that a cat had snuck up on him. He couldn’t hide his smile, but said nothing as you both stared at the night sky for a moment. “Glad your wrist- paw- Glad you’re better.” Mattheo breaks the silence.
You turn to your human form and kiss him on the cheek. “Thank you.” You bite your lip as you notice how in awe Mattheo is of you. “Your secret is safe with me.” He whispers and brushes a strand of hair behind your ear. “You are safe with me.” You press your lips into a line and nod. “I know.” You simply answer but it means the world to Mattheo.
The next morning Mattheo would fall asleep in class, because he spent the entire evening with you.
Blaise
His mouth fell open in admiration as he saw you turn in your human form. He had been looking for a book he had lost somewhere during the day, but none of that mattered right now. Blaise couldn’t believe what his eyes were seeing. His rival from first year, his crush since third year, his gorgeous friend, you had just turned from a cat into a human in front of his eyes. The awe for the little magical trick you had just pulled didn’t stand in the way of Blaise noticing that you were only wearing an oversized t-shirt, much to his amusement. You reach for your wrist carefully caressing it when you hear a shuffle and jump to your feet. “I knew you were a genius but an animagus, really! That’s so sweet.”
“Blaise?” Your eyes fill with panic and you take a step back. It’s only then that Blaise’s excitement turns into worry. Out of all the people that could’ve found out it’s Blaise Zabini! “You’re hurt?” You bite your lip, not worried at all about your wrist, only about rumours spreading about you being an animagus. “Please don’t tell anyone.” Your plea is answered with a soft reassuring smile. “I won’t tell, I promise.” You had never understood why this one slytherin in all of Hogwarts had always been so sweet and nice to you. You liked to tell yourself it was because he felt guilty for blowing up your cauldron when you were first years, but now that his hand gently reached for your wrist you wondered if it could be something else… or maybe you wished it was something else.
You pull your hand to your chest and Blaise tilts his head with judging eyes. “Don’t be like that. Let me check.” As soon as you part your wrist from your chest, Blaise lays your hand in his. His free hand carefully pressures on a few points in order to examine your injury. “I was in a hurry and overconfident in my balance. I haven’t mastered every detail of life as a cat yet and probably sprained my wrist.” Blaise lips form a smirk, but he doesn’t say anything and you just frown, narrowing your eyes. “You’re lucky you have nine lives. And lucky that you ran into me when you did, because I can heal this with one spell.” His eyes shine with cockiness and his lips form a confident smirk.
“Are you sure?” You worry out loud. “Don’t doubt my academic skills, kitten.” Your mouth drops. “Kitten?” You question, offended. However, you can’t hide the blush nor the smile sneaking on your lips. Blaise chuckles and you can’t deny the heat you feel as you lock eyes with him. You’re surprised to suddenly feel his arm around you and when he notices your confusion, he explains himself. “It’s a quick spell, but it will hurt for a split second. I think it best you lean on me for support, just to be safe.” Like the whole situation wasn’t embarrassing enough. You felt like such a damsel in distress, while you very much liked to prove to Blaise in particular that you were a very intelligent and independent witch.
“Come on, I won’t tell anyone.” Blaise whispers and you nod. There really was no reason to not trust him since he had always been nice to you, or at least since third year. You rest your head on his shoulder and look away from your wrist, just in case he would mess up the spell and break it by accident. You hiss when he casts the spell and dig your nails into his biceps for a few seconds until the pain passes. You turn to look at him, both happy with the result and impressed by his knowledge of healing spells. “All better now.” Blaise’s beautiful smile mesmerises you for a moment and a blush creeps up his cheeks.
“Oi Blaisy boy!” Mattheo swings the door open and immediately makes his assumptions about the scene in front of him. A wicked smile takes form on his smug face. “You finally got her. Nicceeee. I’m so sorry for interrupting, mate. Enjoy ‘looking for your book’.” Without giving either of you a chance to explain a grinning Mattheo leaves the room, not wanting to disturb his friend’s moment with you. “Oh no, Merlin please don’t tell me he’s gonna tell the whole school?” Blaise chuckles and shakes his head. “I’ll talk to him, tell him he got it all wrong.” You nod, but you aren’t really convinced that that’s gonna keep Mattheo from spreading a rumour.
Then it hits you. “What did he mean with: ‘you finally got her’?” Blaise’s eyes widen and he stumbles a few steps back. “Nothing. It means nothing.” You raise an eyebrow at his bizarre response. “I better go look for my book… and you better go do cat things. See you later!” You frown as he walks past you. “Cat things?” Blaise curses himself for being so awkward and turns around one hand already holding the door. “You know, hiss at people and stuff.” You chuckle and slowly like a cat make your way over to him. “For such a smart guy, you can be really awkward sometimes… But thank you for helping me.” You go to stand on your tippy toes and kiss his cheek, turning him into putty.
With the whole school convinced that you two were dating, thanks to Mattheo, it didn’t take long before you found out about Blaise’s crush on you.
Blaise is planning to ask you out today, but nothing goes according to plan. Just really fluffy stuff.
My third fic for Hogmarch 2025! *doing a little happy dance* This one is as sweet as Honey Dukes candy. This was also a real challenge to write and I'm just glad that I'm on time (at least in my time zone). Also sorry if I’m slow to answer messages or react on comments, but I need more hours in a day! Anyways Happy readings!
“Why is Zabini spending such a ridiculous amount of time in the bathroom?” Draco complained his nose wrinkled with annoyance. “Let the man prep.” Mattheo defended his friend, offering the bottle of firewhiskey to Draco. “Day drinking, Riddle? Really?” Mattheo shrugged nonchalantly before taking another swing from the bottle. “It’s not really day drinking, I’m just easing myself into sobering up from last night.” Theo snorted at Mattheo’s explanation, Draco raised his brows and Enzo’s eyes widened. But before anyone could say anything, Blaise walked in.
“I’m gonna make my move today.” He announced with an excited clap of his hands. Enzo nodded, impressed. “Your hair looks fluffier than ever.” Blaise grinned like a happy kid and his hand went through his hair. “Ye think?” Blaise was ready for this day. He was gonna ask you out. “Okay, let’s head out!” Enzo jumped up from where he was sitting and Draco, most eager to leave the castle, already had his hand on the doorknob.
“Matt, you're staying here. Your drunk ass is not gonna ruin this for me. Theo, stay here. Watch the big baby.” Blaise commanded as he swung his jacket over his shoulder. “I’m not some mother goose.” Theo countered. “Yeah, and I’m not drunk!” Mattheo yelled, making Theo roll his eyes.
Blaise winked. “Sure!”
***
Blaise’s eyes were glued to you as you helped a customer, patiently explaining which candies were most advisable as a birthday gift for a kid. “She’s perfect.” Blaise breathed and Draco nodded, leaning against a candy filled counter with his arms crossed. “Yes, she is… and you’re the weirdo that’s been standing between bubble cakes and fire frogs for ten minutes staring.”
Blaise dropped his head and studied the candy in front of him before adding a frog to his bag. He felt his shirt get tighter around his neck as his confidence faded. She’s sooo out of my league.
“Was today not the day you were gonna make a move?” Enzo questioned, his tongue licking his lip not hiding his amusement with his suddenly shy friend. Blaise moved away to a different counter, hoping to put some distance between him and his mocking friends. When Blaise wasn’t looking Enzo caught you staring in their direction and gave you a confident wink, which made you blush.
“Look, I don’t like saying this, but I’m no longer putting this off because of you.” Enzo announced, making Blaise turn to face him holding a bag of weirdly shaped cookies. “I think I have a chance with her and I’m not gonna let her witter because you don’t make a move.” Draco raised his brows, judging Enzo’s boldness.
“Hey hey, I will make my move. I just can’t right now, she’s busy, can’t you see..” Blaise pointed at you seeing you stand there all alone with your pretty HoneyDukes apron. Just then when you turn around to scan the shop and see anyone in need of help or advice three awkward slytherin’s stare back at you, but you only notice one.
“Salazar, she must think we’re weirdo’s.” Draco sighs, keeping his eyes on you and only moving the corners of his mouth to speak. “I’m pretty sure she knows I’m cool.” Enzo smirks arrogantly.
“Go pay for all the stuff you’ve put in your basket… and make. your. Move!” Draco barked, annoyed how he had spent way too much time in the store without any results or any candy.

“Hi.”
“Hi.”
“Uhm… you look delicious… like a… cracker.”
“A cracker? Hmm.” Your lips form an awkward line and now Blaise is freaking out on the inside. A cracker… what am I thinking!
“No. Yes. I mean it’s a joke, because we’re in HoneyDukes. You’re not delicious.”
“Not delicious?” You chuckle, noting the panic in Blaise’s beautiful eyes. I’m a moron. I hope I fall off my broom during training tomorrow and dieee.
“I would like these candies please.” He suddenly raises his basket filled with snacks and some random trinkets that weren’t even for sale.
“Uhm, I can’t sell you the decorations. I’m sorry.” You offer him a sweet smile as you take the basket to the checkout area.
“Obviously. I knew that. I’m smart. I’m not here to shop anyways.” He blurts nonchalantly and you frown at the nonsense.
“Then what were you doing here?” Blaise melts in your eyes. They are soft as you ask him to make sense of all his nervous yapping. He takes a deep sigh and you offer him a kind smile. “None of my business. I’m sorry for asking.” Just tell her you’re here to ask out the most beautiful girl you’ve ever seen, come Blaise say it, you can do this…
Blaise nodded with a tight lipped smile. None of the words he so desperately wanted to say came out. Today was not going to be the day.
To make matters worse, out of nowhere, a very drunk Theodore Nott slung an arm around Blaise’s shoulder. “Have you asked her out yet?” Theo whispered ridiculously loud while lazily pointing at you, in case there was any doubt as to who he was talking about.
“Wha?” Blaise turned from Theo to you with shock and then back to Theo with anger. “What are you doing here and why are you drunk?” Theo raised his hand. “Riddle challenged me. I had no choice. My honour was at stake.” Blaise’s eyes widened. “He’s the man you know. I’ve heard the girls in his room moan.” Theo offered you a dirty smile and a thumbs up, but Theo wasted no time grabbing Theo by the colour and dragging him away.
You watched the whole group of Slytherins being chased out by Blaise. He was clearly the most adult one of the group and you found it really attractive. He looked fine as hell, was attentive and intelligent. Did he really want to ask me out?
You snapped out of your dreamy thoughts and returned to the basket in front of you, all the candy Blaise had wanted to buy. “Your stuff?” You blurted, your eyes moving to the door, but they had all left.
You sighed, disappointed that he had left. But maybe for the best, maybe it wasn’t supposed to be.
***
You waved goodbye to your boss and closed the door behind you. Your shift has finally ended. Your feet hurt and your head was pounding, you could still hear the voices of excited kids talking about candy and snacks. You sigh as your eyes set on the sun hiding behind the trees. It was getting late, time to go back to the castle.
As soon as you take one step you hear a familiar voice and spin around. “Hi again.”
“Blaise?” He offers you a kind smile and you notice he’s more relaxed than earlier. “Your stuff is still inside. If you want I can still go get it, my boss won’t mind.”
“No, no. No need. I really hope your boss doesn’t notice me being here.” With those words you notice that he's holding the HoneyDukes sign under his arm. “Riddle and Nott stole it. I just got it back. I would like to hang it back up without your boss ever noticing it got stolen.”
You laugh and it warms Blaise’s heart, he chuckles lightly. “They’re the worst.” You nod agreeing with his statement. “They’re lucky to have you.” Now it is his turn to nod. He puts the sign against the wall and reaches for his wand.
“I’m sorry for earlier.” He apologies as he carefully navigates the sign back up, so it’s back above the door of the store. You watch him with admiration. “You’re a very skilled wizard.” He chuckles softly. “Doesn’t make up for my poor communication skills, though.”
“I think you're doing pretty fine.” You smile sweetly as you take a few steps towards him. Blaises moves a nervous hand through his hair. “Yeah, normally I’m good. I can talk my way out of detention and I can pick up a girl with ease, but for some reason… there’s this one girl that I’ve been trying to talk to for months…”
“No luck?” You ask, curious to know more. Your heart starts racing a little at the thought of you really being the girl he wants to ask out.
“She’s way out of my league.” Blaise’s voice is husky, something close to a whisper. “I want to go out with her so bad that I’m afraid to ask because… she might say no.”
You meet his eyes and you feel your cheeks heat up. “No girl in her right mind would say no to Blaise Zabini.”
“No? Not even you?” Blaise questions with an adorable smile that makes your heart melt. “Definitely not me. I would love to go out with you.” His smile brightens and you chuckle.
“Good to know, good to know.” Blaise mutters half to himself as he closes the distance between you two. There’s a moment of silence. “Hey (y/n), would you like to go out for dinner sometime?”
You pretend to think it over and you both laugh. “Yes, sounds good to me.”
You both walk to the castle laughing at the bizarre day, the nervousness between you slowly ebbing away. Today was the day after all.
You are hunted by the realisation that while your relationship is fake your feelings are very real. Meanwhile James figures out more than just his feelings for you.

Another week had passed since your dance with Regulus, the beautiful but painful moment you realised you were in love with Regulus. You had cursed yourself everyday for playing a dirty game and getting hurt yourself. This is just bad karma for trying to get James jealous. Merlin, I’m such a fool.
“That will be it for today’s class. Remember I’ll be expecting your essays by friday.” You could barely hear professor Mcgonagall through all the noise of students closing their books and chairs moving.
As soon as you exit the classroom Marlene bumps into you. “Hey, are you joining us for a picnic?” You think it over, you still needed to write a conclusion for your paper and you were really desperate to meet up with your boyfriend, fake boyfriend that is. “Come on you’ve gotta join, we barely hang out anymore since you’ve been dating. Don’t be that girl.” Remus argued and you smiled, he could take the weight of the world off of your shoulders with just one look from his kind eyes. “Sure, but not for too long I don’t want to disappoint professor Mcgonagall.”
“Right, right. It’s about homework and not your sexy slytherin.” You gasp at Marlene’s boldness. “That’s not it. I really need to finish my essay.” The three of you laugh and for a moment all is well.
However it doesn’t last long, you can feel the knot in your stomach grow when you see Sirius, James and Lily are already at the picnic. “Look what the wolf dragged in.” Sirius jokes as he munches on some food. “She doesn’t have much time, she has homework.” Marlene winks playfully and you roll your eyes as you all sit down. “Is that Regulus’ new codename?” Lily teases and you just drop your head to the side, pretending to be annoyed but you had to admit you kinda enjoyed the teasing. At least to them your relationship was real.
“Ugh. Please don’t. That’s my baby brother.” Sirius complained. “Baby brother is getting more than you padfoot. Deal with it.” Remus threw a grape at Sirius to get him to stop complaining. “I’m working on that.” Sirius countered, picking up the grape and trying to seductively eat it, making Remus frown.
Unfortunately, fake dating did not include getting some. Not that you had never thought about it. Your mind had wandered off more than once, when he slung an arm around you and smelled so fresh. Merlin, you had it bad.
The afternoon passed and you had started working on your essay in the sun with your friends, but you were too engaged in your work and suddenly you found yourself sitting with just James. “Hey, where's everyone?”
James chuckled at your confusion. “Sirius is showing Remus a new magic trick. Marlene, Lily and Peter are getting extra drinks. They have good connections with the house elves.” You nod and there’s a strange tension in your silence. “Why? You need help?” James offers, leaning closer to scan your paper.
“No, I’m good. I think I got everything in my conclusion. I will reread it tomorrow.” You carefully fold the parchment and James nods, but he seems a bit frustrated with you. You notice how tense his jaw is and stare at him for a moment, when he catches you he chuckles. “You’ll probably go to Regulus for help now…” You bite your lip, you couldn’t deny that there was still some attraction. Definitely now that he sounded so jealous.
“So about baby Black.” You narrow your eyes at James’ attitude. “Don’t.” You demand some respect that’s the least Regulus deserved for being so good to you. “Sirius and I are worried.” James suddenly admits catching you off guard. “I mean here at Hogwarts he might seem like a good guy, but out there he hangs with a bad crowd and.. I mean.. just look at his family. You have no future with him. You do realise that?” His words stung, hard. His jealousy was suddenly a lot less attractive and it took you a moment to bite back.
“Are you worried or jealous, James?” You snapped as you put your quill and parchment in your bag, ready to get up. “Maybe both.” James looks at his hands as you stare him down after his confession. When he looks up his eyes look vulnerable. Your heart starts to race. James’ lips part but he’s forced to keep his words to himself as he sees Regulus heading in your direction.
You turn your head and the corners of Regulus’ lips tug up. He hated how he couldn’t hide it anymore. You had full control over him. He was just lucky that he got to play the role of boyfriend. If not, he would look like a fool. You heard James sigh and turned to look at him, making Regulus’ heart squeeze. You looking away from him was a painful reminder that your heart belongs to the most obnoxious person ever.
“Hi beautiful.” Regulus’ whisper stroked your eyes as he kneeled next to you on the picnic blanket. You were hesitant for a second because James was there, but your lips found your way to Regulus’ like muscle memory. “I got you something.” Regulus reached for a small pack of your favourite HoneyDukes candy and your eyes widened with joy. James let his head fall back as he leaned on his arms, his eyes rolling to the back of his skull with disgust for what was happening in front of him. “You went to hogsmeade?” Regulus nodded. “Forced to, by Evan.” Regulus watches you with adoration as you struggle to open the candy wrapping, but his jaw tenses when he looks at James and notices his hostility.
Clearly you were no longer unnoticed and Regulus hated the whole fake dating thing was going to blow up in face. You had always liked James and you were going to fall into his arms at the first effort James makes. “Can I steal her away?” Regulus manages calmly, before looking away from James and stroking a strand of your hair making you meet his eyes. James chews the inside of his cheek to keep himself from yelling ‘no’.
“Reg.” Sirius pants as he approaches you, followed by Remus mumbling something about almost getting caught committing a crime. “Brother.” Regulus returns nonchalantly as he gets up to meet his brother in height. “Long time no see.” Sirius chuckles, making Regulus tilt his head and frown. “We see each other every day.” Sirius nods and Remus’ eyes widen at the awkwardness. “They were just leaving.” James announces, making the air between everyone even more tense.
Regulus ignores everyone and helps you up, guiding you with a gentle arm around your waist. “Was I interrupting something I shouldn’t have?” Regulus questions pretending to care about your connection with James, while only wishing he misinterpreted the situation and that James still only saw you as one of the boys.
“No, I don’t think so.” You lied, afraid that if you told him the truth he might think there would be no need to further continue fake dating, but by Salazar did you hate yourself for lying to the man you cared about so damn much. Regulus’ lips formed a line and you didn’t really know what to make of it, but he gave you no time to overthink it as his hand reached for the back of your head, pulling you in for a passionate kiss. “He’s a fool for letting me steal you away from him.” Regulus’ husky voice and warm breath sent shivers down your spine. It was one of those moments that made you wonder how much passion was hidden behind his calm demeanour.
***
You were sitting between Regulus’ legs, laying against his chest with his arm around you, both reading your own book with an occasional kiss for Regulus if he noticed you drifting off. It was moments like this that were absurdly romantic and comfortable for two people fake dating. You had been chewing your lip for a while now wondering if you should test the waters. What encouraged you was the gentle way Regulus fingertips caressed your arm, probably subconsciously, as he was deeply engaged with his book. “You know… there’s no one around so there’s really no need to be all cuddly… but I’m kinda comfy, sooo can I stay for just a few more minutes?” Regulus' lips formed half a smile at your question but he barely looked away from his book.
“It would be weird if someone walked in and we weren’t sitting together, gossip would spread quickly. This is the slytherin common room after all.” You nodded at his boringly reasonable argument. “I guess I’m not moving if you're not.” You declared settling in more against his chest, unknowingly making Regulus’ whole body heat up. He caught himself leaning in to kiss the crown of your head, but was interrupted by a loud slam of the door as Barty walked in.
“You told Evan I kissed Tessa.” Regulus raised his chin in thought. “Ah, that was her name. I thought it was Tilly.” Barty shook his head aggressively, clearly annoyed with his friend. You and Regulus both sat up straight to prepare for the drama Barty had just brought in. “I’ve been trying to impress Evan for weeks and you tell him I’ve been kissing other girls. I’ll hurt you for this, Black.” At the harsh tone of Barty Regulus got up to stand in front of you. “Alright. Let’s take this elsewhere, before this gets out of hand.” Barty narrows his eyes at you. “Afraid I’ll hurt your little birdy.” Regulus gives Barty a soft shove in the direction of the door. “First of all leave (y/n) out this and second if you’re trying to impress Evan why in Merlin’s name are you kissing other people. I had no idea you had a thing for Evan… Well a lot of things make sense now.”
You hear the two bicker until the door closes behind them. You’re a little worried, but on the other hand you know better than to get involved with Barty-drama, Regulus was way better at handling these kinds of situations. Sirius had once explained it as a family survival skill to manage conflicts with hotheaded people.
However, on the other end of the door the always so calm Regulus Black was about to lose his patience. “How would you like it if I told everyone all about your business?” Regulus rolled his eyes and shook his head at what he thought was an empty threat. “There’s nothing to tell, I don’t go around kissing people when trying to impress another.” Barty licked his lips before showing a filthy smile, closing in on Regulus’ face with a firm and dark tone. “I know all about your pact with (y/n). Pretending to be dating so she can get James’ attention.” Regulus’ eyes widen and Barty’s pleased with the reaction. “How do you-” Barty laughs. “I overheard you talking once. You are so occupied with her that you’re losing your touch.” Regulus clenches his jaw and his eyes go dark, but Barty just continues. “What would people think of that Regulus? No one would take you seriously if they knew you were caught up in petty games like this. And what would people think of her?”
With one move Regulus had Barty thrown against a wall and his wand against Barty’s throat. “You don’t want to make that mistake Barty. You keep your mouth shut.” Barty eyes are still mad, but tempered down by the force with which Regulus is pushing him against the wall. “You do seem to care a lot about your fake relationship with your fake girlfriend? I hope the feelings are still fake?” Regulus’ eyes get meaner at Barty’s deduction. “You obviously care about her. I care about Evan, let’s not ruin this for one another and let all slide.” Barty reasons, but Regulus isn’t quick to take the deal, considering more sinister options to deal with Barty instead, but distant footsteps force him to pull away.
However, what neither of them had realised is that someone overheard the whole conservation.
***
“We are going to make those snakes cry for their mums!” Sirius yelled as he excitedly fist bumps Peter and Marlene. Regulus just rolled his eyes, but Bellatrix doesn’t stay quiet as she walks by. “Shut it, family disgrace!” Sirius falls silent and James gives him a gentle pat on the back, before checking the tape on his wrist.
“Not looking good, Potter.” Regulus laughed at James’ wrist taped in after he had hurt it during training a few days ago. Regulus normally wasn’t one to bully, but a few mind games before a quidditch game were always hard to resist. Definitely after Regulus had noticed you and James talking more and more. Since you were dating Regulus, you felt more confident and no longer felt the need to avoid James, but Regulus hated it when you were around the gryffindor.
“No need to act so tough, Regulus. By the end of the day you’ll be a double loser and honestly that’s what you get for playing dirty games.” Regulus’ laughs mockingly at James' accusations as he walks closer, but before he can counter with something witty James takes the word again with a venous low whisper. “Lily overheard you and Crazy Crouch talking yesterday. It's over for you, after the game I’m kissing (y/n), I’ll tell her how I feel.” James slammed the quaffle hard into Regulus’ stomach, making slytherin groan a little. Regulus felt like his whole world was shattering around him, the quaffle hadn’t done as much damage as his heart was enduring right now. On top of it all he had to watch Sirius look questioningly at James, but not sparing his own brother so much as a glance of worry.
Regulus clenched his jaw and turned to walk to his own team. His eyes were dead and even though you were seated far away you could notice something had happened. “Do you want me to curse him for you?” Bellatrix’s eyes lit up as she offered her assistance. “Make every limp hurt, please.” Bellatrix laughed maniacally, enjoying her cousin's darker side.
The game was a mess and not just because of the hellish weather but the ridiculous amount of fouls made. Sirius was sent off first for offensive language, then James almost got hit by a curse which led to Bellatrix being sent off and finally Barty almost got himself killed, not even mentioning Regulus’ reckless behaviour to get any points.
When Gryffindor was celebrating their victory, chanting loudly in the stands, you only watched Regulus, who couldn’t bear to look up to his fake girlfriend that he was going to lose. Without a word he passed everyone and everything and headed straight to the barracks to hide himself. There was nothing that he could think of that would console him.
You rushed through the excited Gryffindors and avoided the frustrated Slytherins ready to make amok. You had no idea of what was going on but you knew it was more than a lost game and you knew you needed to be by your boyfriend’s side. You cursed yourself and reminded yourself that Regulus was only your fake boyfriend. Yet, it didn’t stop you hurrying through the crowds.
Once on the field you headed straight for the barracks, until to your surprise a firm hand grabbed your upper arm. Your eyes land on James, sweaty, wet and panting. “I need to talk to you.” You see Regulus disappear with his teammates before locking eyes with James. You let him pull you to the side, under the stands.
“James, what’s this about?” One hand reaches for the back of your skull and the other firmly snakes around your waist as James pulls you in a warm and wholehearted kiss that leaves you gasping for air. “James?” You breathe out his name demanding an explanation. “I know none of it is real. I told Regulus to back off. I want you… for real.” Softer, but still filled with passion James’ lips lock with yours and this time you kiss back with equal intensity. Merlin, did it feel good. You had loved him for so long and part of you was still so attracted to him.
And yet…
you push him away. “James. I think… I think I love Regulus.” You're both still out of breath from the kiss and your eyes can’t look away from James’ but the truth had to be told. “What? But it was all fake, right?” A tear rolls down your cheek as you see James’ hurt and feel your own heart squeeze. “I fell for him. I’m sorry.” There’s a silence as James studies you and you force your eyes shut, hating yourself and the whole situation. A soft thumb brushes your tears away. “It’s my fault for not noticing you sooner and for not acting the moment I felt you slip away.”
Your hands slipped down to his arms, gently creating some distance between you. It hurt you both, but staying close felt wrong. “I’ve got to talk to Regulus.” You whisper looking away from James for the first time. James closes his eyes and you take a step away. He watches you silently turn around, before speaking up. “If he ever lets you go I’ll catch you.” You feel your eyes water again, but force a smile. “No, you won’t. Because you won’t wait for me. You’ll fall in love before you know it, you’ll be happy… Please.” The softest laugh escapes James’ lips as he nods, letting you go, letting you run into Regulus’ arms.
Everything was a blur, your heart raced and your brain was hazy. Your body was in a rush to find Regulus, like a magnet you were drawn to him with a forceful pull.
“Regulus?” You swung the door open to the slytherin changing room. Regulus jumped up from the bench where he had been mourning his love for you in silence. Everyone holds his breath including you, until your raw love for Regulus kicks in. Once you took the first step in his direction every other one was easy as you ran into his arms. Like a fitting puzzle piece Regulus enveloped you into his arms. A kiss so hungry, it matched all those longing moments you had both pushed away for weeks.
“She’s not allowed to be in here. I’m butt naked.” Barty yelled from the showers. “Shut up! No one cares, Barty. She’s here for Reg.” Evan yells back. You and Regulus laugh at the ridiculous exchange and with a smile on his face Regulus meets your eyes. “I don’t understand, why are you here?” You kiss Regulus again to give yourself the courage to tell him. “James kissed me-” Barty laughs. “That would make me want to run away and hide as well.” Regulus rolls his eyes. “Shut up!” You press your lips together. “James kissed me and it made me realise that I can’t pretend to not love you.” Regulus' eyes widen at your words and his smile grows. “You love me?” You nod encouraged by the rush of it all and feeling yourself all giddy. With both hands Regulus cups your cheeks and kisses you intensely.
“She still can’t stay here.” Barty points out with a smile. “Don’t worry, Bart. Regulus is coming with me.” You take his hand. “I still need to shower, though.” You give him a mischievous smile and the teasing glint in your eyes reminds him there are plenty of showers ideal for just the two of you. with a happy smile he whispers to you: “I love you too.”
hi!! Could I request a fic with like Mattheo and Theo, or either of them. The reader wears glasses but only for reading stuff so her "friends" makes fun of her and Mattheo or Theo comforts her?? Love your fics xx
I got this request a century ago, but I promised myself I would only post this if I finished the second request as a way of keeping myself motivated... Did not really speed up the writing process, but here we are! The good news is: I finished the second request... bad news, I will only post it if I manage to finish the third request.
Anyways, thank you for the request and I'm sorry for my absence, I hope you've all been well. Either way you all deserve the world and lots of happiness. Sending you lots of love! AND of course: Happy Readings!
Merlin, she looks beautiful
Reader that needs glasses with Mattheo or Theo
Gently you stroll through the endless bookcases searching for something that would help you and your friends with your Transfiguration’s group project. “Found it.” You mumble to yourself, thinking that no one would hear you. However, a sneaky slytherin was adoring you from a bit further. Lounging with his friends in a corner of the library his eyes traced you until Draco snapped his fingers. “You’re gonna start drooling if you don’t stop that.” Your eyes move to the laughter but you can only guess what it’s about.
Your friends groan as you drop the books on the table. Honestly you weren’t excited about it either, but the work had to be done. Everyone grabs a book. Flipping through the pages you quickly spot an interesting chapter. You squint your eyes as you try to read, cursing yourself you grab your bag searching for your glasses. You blink, remembering how much more fun reading is when you don’t struggle with every letter.
Merlin, she looks beautiful.
Your one paragraph in when your vision gets misty. Confused, you take off your glasses and everyone at your table starts laughing. The person opposite of you had used a spell to fog your glasses to everyone’s amusement.
You felt your insecurities peak. Wearing glasses was new for you and you hadn’t quite adjusted to life with them, feeling a little stupid. “What’s up with the glasses? Are you going blind?” Someone at the table quipped, making the others chuckle. Instead of explaining why you had to wear glasses you just fell silent, everyone staring at you until you finally stuttered some words out. “I’m gonna read this later. I need to meet up with someone.” You could hear the snickering as you left the library.
You feel your heartbeat quicken and turn around a corner, pressing your back against the wall you try to calm yourself. You look down at the glasses in your hand and for a moment you stare up the staircases. If you would go up and drop your ugly glasses, you would be rid of them forever. It wasn’t going to work like that, but for a second it seemed like a good idea to just pretend like you didn’t need them.
Theo
POV: Theo watching you when you hurried out of the library, clearly upset.
You sigh and turn to continue walking without having anywhere to go, but suddenly you feel magic tug at you. You’re swirled around so that you’re now face to face with Theodore Nott. “Ey bella, you seemed upset when you left the library.” You blink staring at Theo who you had never known to show emotion leave alone concern for you. “Uhm… no it’s fine. I’m good.” You nod a few times as a way of convincing him, compensating for your shaky voice. “You forgot this.” Theo shows you the case for your glasses. You stare at the pattern, a bit concerned about whether or not he thought it was cute or not. You mentally cursed yourself for caring about what Theodore Nott thought of you simply because he was a popular guy. “Oh yeah, I forgot. Thank you.” You reach for the case but Theo immediately lifts it higher and out of reach for you.
A slytherin bully playing around was really the last thing you could use right now. Even though Theo and his friends were notorious for causing trouble, you had always been spared from it… that is until now. “Can I please have it back?” You bravely ask, stressing the please and hoping that the slytherin would be merciful. “Only if you promise to find some better friends.” You meet his eyes and he can see the clear confusion. “They make you feel unhappy with yourself. You make yourself small when you’re around them, I’ve noticed and I don’t like it. So promise me you’ll hang out with other people.” Your eyebrows knit together. “You noticed? Have you been watching me or something?” At your question Theodore's confident smile turns into a nervous chuckle. “I’m allowed to admire beautiful things, am I not?” His eyes look at you with cheeky innocence.
You blush and bite your lip. “Admiring, huh?” Theodore smiles at you and hands you the case for your glasses. “Yes… and I hate it when others dim your light.” You look away from him as you put your glasses in their case. “My friends aren’t that bad. The glasses just make me look silly.” Theo shakes his head at your words and closes the distance between the two of you. “I disagree.” His voice is raspy and you can’t believe the slytherin heartthrob is standing so close to you. “Bella, look at me. You’re gorgeous. Glasses or no glasses, you turn heads when you walk by.” You drown in his eyes as his words soothe all your insecurities. Theo gently pushes your chin up. “Promise me that you’ll hang out with better people.” He whispers with an enchanting voice. When you nod, he smiles and takes a step back. “Good.” He shoves his hands in his pockets and winks before walking away.
There’s a silence as you stare at him with dreamy eyes. “Hey.” You suddenly say, to your surprise, out loud.” You can feel your heart thump loud when he turns to face you. “Can I hang with you?” The left corner of Theo’s mouth tugs up and his hand leaves his pocket gesturing for you to come with him. “Of course. I don’t mind. I could admire you all day.” You bite your lip to try and hide your happy smile and walk with him.
Mattheo
POV: Mattheo anything but pleased with your snickering friends as you leave the library with teary eyes.
“There you are.” You wouldn’t have thought those words were meant for you if you weren’t the only one there. With dumb eyes you stare at none other than Mattheo Riddle. “You alright, love? You seemed upset when you left the library in a hurry.” Your eyes widen at the realisation. You thought you were hiding it well but it was probably obvious to anyone with proper eyesight that you were close to crying when you practically ran out of the library. Mattheo took your silence as an invitation to get closer to you. Significantly closer. It made you worry what people would think if they saw you so close to him. Hogwarts loves juicy gossip.
“You look gorgeous with or without glasses so don’t worry about it.” Mattheo smirks, confidence radiating off of him. Not knowing how to take the compliment, you chuckle and look away from the handsome slytherin towering over you. “Didn’t your mother teach you not to lie?” You replied jokingly, but as soon as you meet his eyes you realise that considering who you’re talking to that it was a really bad joke. Your eyes fill with panic as you question whether to run or apologise. Meanwhile Mattheo lips form an amused smirk and his eyes playfully watch your nervous figure. “Not really, I was thought to never get caught in a lie. But what I said about your glasses was not a lie. It was a compliment. You’re gorgeous. Don’t doubt that, love. However, when the professors ask me later if I had anything to do with turning your friends’ hair into snakes, I’ll lie without shame.” Your mouth drops when you hear his confession. You immediately forget the sweet things he just said and panic. “What! Oh Merlin, no! Why did you do that?” As you try and walk away, back to your friends Mattheo stops you. “They deserve it and you know that. You don’t need glasses to see that they’re not real friends.” He’s still holding onto your wrist when you move closer to him. You let your head hang in defeat for a moment. “Yeah, you’re probably right. But still no reason to hex them.”
You give Mattheo a judging look, but your soft smile gives away that you don’t really mind that he hexed them. His eyes land on your smile as he chuckles. “Hexes were invented specifically for people like them.” You shake your head but at the same time you feel yourself drawn to him. His hand moves from your wrist to your hip. “You’re stunning. So don’t ever let anyone make you feel bad about yourself.”
Just when Mattheo is about to make a move Pansy’s coughs, making you jump and take a step back. Standing at the end of the hallway, a very sassy looking Pansy darts her eyes between you two. “Am I interrupting something?” She asks with obvious fake innocence. You immediately shake and say your goodbyes to Mattheo.
“What did I ever do to you, Pansy?” Mattheo asks after he watched you leave. “I think it was something you said in first year.” Pansy bluntly answers before walking away. Mattheo nervously chews his lips wondering if you were okay and curious if you had felt the heat as much as he did.
***
You had gotten so flustered after Pansy had caught Mattheo and you so close together that you went to hide in the bathroom for a few minutes. Feeling fresh and calm you step outside again, only to realise that you were late for class. You rush in to find Mcgonagall stare at you in disappointment. “Let’s not waste anymore time standing there. Take a seat.” You nod, wanting to disappear now that the whole class is staring at you. You look to your left to see Mattheo sitting alone. Puppy eyes locked onto you.
Look at his eyes!!!!
You freeze as you feel the heat on your cheeks return. I must look like a tomato. Mcgonagall turns away from the board to see you still standing up. “Miss (l/n), is there a problem?” Her stern voice sends shivers down your spine and you feel like you’re a first year again. Within seconds you're seated next to Mattheo with your books in front of you. “Hello again.” Mattheo whispers amusement ringing in his voice. You nervously flip through the pages. “Chapter 4 and don’t forget your glasses.” Mattheo whispers, you softly chew your lip as you fumble to get your glasses. “I think you look cute with them.” At those words you turn to Mattheo with glasses, blushed cheeks and wide eyes. He gives you a cheeky wink… and that class you did not hear a thing the professor said to you.

No date for the bully?
A fluffy part 2 for Enzo and Mattheo.
Read part 1 here: No date for the bully.
You feel eyes following you when you enter the great hall for dinner, but decide to ignore the feeling. However, when you sit down you can’t help but get chills, making your head turn with a frown on your face. “What’s wrong?” George asks as he follows your wandering eyes. You shake your head and turn back to the plate in front of you. “I have this feeling that someone’s watching me but I must be imagining it.” Fred chuckles and meets George’s eyes, but neither of them speak up. You narrow your eyes at both of them. “What?” You snap at them after several seconds of silence. George grins widely but keeps his mouth shut. So you decide to give Fred a dark glare, making him laugh. “I think it’s your slytherin lover over there.” You follow Fred’s eyes to the slytherin table. “Rumor has it that he might have a little crush on you.” George adds as he wiggles his eyebrows suggestively.
“Ugh.” You make your disgust very clear to the amusement of everyone at the gryffindor table. “There’s lots of girls here that would love to go out with the slytherin heartthrob.” George sings and you roll your eyes. “He’s a bully. I’m not gonna waste my time on him. And it doesn’t matter, knowing him he’s probably playing some twisted game.”
After dinner you hang out with your friends in the courtyard. When it gets late you decide to say your goodbyes. You really need to be fresh for potions class tomorrow. You jawn as quietly walk to Hogwarts castle when suddenly you hear someone yell at you. “Watch it, slow girl!” You recognise Theodore Nott’s voice as he flies just above your head. You duck and avoid Draco crashing into you. Quickly Blaise, Enzo and Mattheo follow flying all the way up to the astronomy tower. There was really no purpose for them to fly near you other than to startle you and laugh at the terrified look on your face. Draco’s laughter echoes. “Did you see her ugly face!”
You roll your eyes and sigh in annoyance. Shrugging your shoulders in an attempt to shake off the nasty feeling. As soon as you enter the castle you feel more at ease and take a deep breath, enjoying the castle’s warmth.
“Hey, wait up.” You hear a familiar voice and turn around. To your surprise it’s…
Enzo Berkshire.
“I want to apologise… for just now…and probably all other things.” You roll your eyes and turn back around to continue walking to your dorm. “I just realised that we were laughing and you… you weren’t laughing. We probably scared you.” You raise your eyebrows and ignore him, walking away from his apologetic figure. “I’m really sorry.” You stop and notice the undeniable sincerity in Enzo’s voice. You turn in the middle of the staircase to see Enzo staring up at you from below. He offers you a weak half smile, but he doesn’t hide the guilt he feels. You’re curious so you take a few steps down.
“Actions speak louder than words, Berkshire. Prove you are sorry. No more bullying.” You demand, you try to sound stern but it comes out softer than you expected. Maybe you had a soft spot for Enzo Berkshire after all. The sheepish slytherin nods and his signature happy smile returns his lips. You catch yourself staring at his soft lips and shake off the feelings inside you. It’s all just words. Slytherin trademark sweet talk. You give Enzo a sweet smile and say goodnight. He’s obviously shocked that you can walk away from him so easily. Even though his apology was sincere, part of him had hoped that it would break down the wall between you two and give him a chance to charm you.
Feeling a bit defeated that you hadn’t fallen into his arms just yet, Enzo nods and turns away from your figure moving up the stairs. But after two steps he can’t resist trying to win you over a little more. “How about a picnic by the Black Lake on sunday?” You bite your lip at his offer, but put on a poker face before turning towards Enzo. “No mockery from you or your friends.” You state your demand. A smirk instantly tugs on Enzo’s lips and you already regret agreeing after seeing the hint of arrogance flicker in his eyes. “Meet me in the courtyard at 4.” You roll your eyes as he offers you a cheeky wink before leaving.
***
Enzo’s week had been rather exhausting keeping his friends away from you so they wouldn’t do anything to ruin his chance with you. He had considered just asking them to leave you alone, but he just knew he wouldn’t hear the end of it. Months ago he had stood up for you once, when his friends were trash talking about you. It was Draco’s signature snort that started a long evening of his friends making fun of him for liking… sweet silly you.
Enzo had noticed you glancing over at him from time to time. It had only made him more nervous. He probably only had one chance to make a good impression on you. The picnic had to be perfect! Staring at himself in the mirror Enzo moved the comb through his hair again. When suddenly a feeling of anxiety rushed through him. Fuck. I like her… I really, really like her! That’s why I’ve been so nervous.
Enzo runs a hand through his hair, before giving himself a little pep-talk: “You got this Berky. You’re gonna charm her. You're gonna be funny and cool. She’s gonna love you… You’re gonna get married.” With a confident smile he grabs his jacket, sliding into it and grabbing a box of sweets he had bought for you as well as the picnic basket. “Let’s charm the future lady Berkshire.”
As soon as Enzo closes the door behind him and heads for the courtyard, Draco speaks up from inside the closet in their dorm. “By Salazar! Get your foot off mine, Theo, you giant!” Mattheo opens the closet door feeling slightly claustrophobic, making Blaise stumble outside as well. Quickly followed by Draco and Theo. “So Enz’s is going on some secret date?” Theo questions not really believing what he had just overheard Enzo say. Mattheo grins. “With his future lady.” Blaise shakes his head in disapproval of Mattheo’s wiggling eyebrows. “Who do you think this girl is?” Draco says stretching his legs, very much bothered by the fact that he doesn’t know everything going on in his friend group. “As much as I am against this, we could always follow him.” Blaise suggests, not able to resist the curiosity within himself. His suggestion is met with eager grins from his friends.
You watch Enzo struggle with the picnic blanket and quickly cast a spell to make it settle down on the grass neatly as you casually walk over to him. You were worried that it might look like you tried too hard with your elegant spring dress and perfectly matching vest and shoes, but Enzo’s obvious staring tells you that he probably isn’t thinking too much about it and he’s simply enjoying the view. “I got you this.” Enzo coughs and diverts his eyes, embarrassed about his staring. Play it cool, don’t drool! Enzo quickly offers you the box of sweets he got you. “Another apology for my behaviour.” He says as he gives you a sheepish smile. You curiously open the box, peeking inside as Enzo continues to set up the picnic.
“Thank you, Enzo. I love these.” You say, making the slytherin smile like a happy child. You’re surprised by his softness. You had never seen him like this. “I wasn’t sure what you would like so I got a plate with a bit of everything, so we can snack as long as we want.” Enzo presents a plate of all things delicious, but you’re startled by who you see approaching. Noticing the delight disappear from your eyes and turn to worry, Enzo spins his head around to meet who you were looking at. “Oi, mate, is she really your future lady Berkshire?” Mattheo spits out with no shame to reveal Enzo’s secret.
“You were at Hogsmeade for the day.” Enzo argues as he jumps up, panic fills his eyes. “You were studying.” Draco counters, crossing his arms and frowning at his friend for lying. “Well for all we know he was planning on studying… anatomy.” Theo smirks, his intense eyes scanning your figure beautifully accentuated by your dress. Enzo turns back to see your discomfort under Theo’s gaze. “Back off.” Enzo suddenly growls at Theo giving him a light shove, causing Mattheo to immediately intervene, pushing Enzo back before Theo gets any ideas and things escalate.
“Why didn’t you tell us you were meeting her?” Blaise asks, silencing everyone with the seriousness and calmness in his voice. Enzo looks back at you with worried eyes, it was clear you were curious for the answer as well. Enzo opens his mouth but only some awkward sounds come out so you step in. “Let me answer that for him.” You say as you get up from the picnic blanket. “He’s embarrassed.” Enzo turns to you and your eyes lock with him. “He's embarrassed he is on a date with the slow girl.” Draco laughs and raises his eyebrows with a grin. When Enzo doesn’t speak up your turn away from him.
Enzo’s face looks pained and Mattheo and Blaise start to feel a little sorry for their friend. “Pretty fast walking away from you, Berkshire.” Draco jokes as he raises his eyebrows and before anyone can interfere Enzo answers with a flick of his wand. You turn when you hear a cry from Draco and see him lying on the ground whining. Then your eyes land on Enzo yelling with his wand in hand. Blaise jumps in front of Enzo trying to calm an apparently very angry Enzo.
Your eyebrows knit together as you watch the ordeal. What was Enzo’s deal… Does he like me or not?
Your question, however, was quickly answered when you heard Enzo yell. “You morons ruined this for me! I had one chance, one chance, with this girl and you ruined this… and NO before any of you come with your lame arguments that there are other or better girls, there aren’t any I care about like I care about (y/n)! You guys are shite friends!” Mattheo sighs at Enzo’s speech and helps Draco up. “Could’ve just told us you like her.” Enzo shakes his head in confusion but lowers his wand a little. “Yeah, she’s a little slow sometimes but you don’t need a girl to be bright to have the bed creaking all night.” Enzo isn’t pleased with Theo’s comment. “She’s not slow! She’s intelligent and, and perfect. She got an A+ on Snape’s last test when you only got an A, Theo, so just shut up.”
“Impossible!” Theodore snaps, disgusted by the idea. “No, not really. Ask Snape.” You smugly counter with arms crossed as you walk back to the group of Slytherins. Enzo’s surprised you were still there and walking towards him. Standing a few steps away from him you offer your hand. “Come on Enz, I know a spot.” Enzo's eyes widened with confusion and shock. “Really?” You nod. “You stood up for me. You deserve a second chance.” His eyes go all shiny and you smile at how lovestruck the slytherin is.
Draco’s wrinkles his nose in disgust as the two of you walk hand in hand.. “Ugh, we’re gonna have to be nice to her, aren’t we?”
Mattheo Riddle.
“What do you want, Riddle?” You ask, faking a toughness that didn’t really fit you. “Honestly? You.” You groan in disgust at the arrogance of the Slytherin and turn to continue walking up the stairs. Mattheo’s confident smile drops and he chases after you, something he hates. He’s not one to run after girls. They either fall to his feet or they aren’t of any importance. “Okay, I’m a first class douche, I know. I’m sorry, alright?” Your eyebrows knit together at his pathetic excuse for an apology and you don’t even bother to turn to him. However, Mattheo is persistent and casts a quick spell to make you turn and stumble into him. You immediately give him a shove to put some distance between you two. “I mean it.” He says with a serious voice, but you're not convinced since Slytherins were known for their lies.
“Riddle, you’re a good looking guy and you know it. I’m just not interested so go bother someone else.” You sigh and try to turn around. “You’re not interested in me because you have this wrong image of me, a bully and worse the son of…” His eyes turn farther away from you as he continues. But you don’t buy his pity act. “I’m not interested because you’ve never said a nice thing to me in your life.” You stare at him accusingly, hoping he will see he has no business with you.
“That’s not true.” He counters instantly, making your heart race with how sure he is of himself. “Remember last year when we had the assignment in the forbidden forest and the group split from the professor. I kept an eye on you the whole time to make sure you were safe. Or when your potion exploded last week I cast a spell protecting you so none of the boiling liquid would burn you. I watch out for yo-” You groan in disbelief, before yelling at him loudly. “YOU! It’s you and your friends! You fools ruined my potion! You were the reason the professor lost half of the students!” You sigh and cross your arms, trying to regain your cool. This guy wasn’t worth the air in your lungs. “Just earlier you startled me for no reason and if any of you had miscalculated I could’ve gotten hurt and-” “I know, I know. That’s why I came to apologise.” There’s something pleading in Mattheo’s eyes that keeps you from walking off.
Mattheo takes your silence and the fact that you haven’t run off yet as a good sign and takes a step closer to you. “Look, I know I’m gonna have to put in a lot of effort to convince you that I’m not a total piece of shit, but you have to give me a chance.” As you listen to Mattheo’s plea you spot Draco and Theo peaking around the corner, no doubt listening in to what’s happening. You suppress a smile as an idea pops up into your head. “So I have to believe that the Mattheo Riddle doesn’t think I’m a slow girl and instead… likes… me?” You look at Mattheo with innocent questioning eyes. “(y/n), you’re smart, beautiful and I believe kind enough to find it in your heart to give me a chance. Let me take you out… somewhere fancy, my treat. I’ll spoil you and you’ll forget all the stupid things I’ve done.” You shake your head and turn away, knowing that he won’t let you get very far. “You’re playing me, Riddle.”
You bite your lip when you feel a gentle hand wrap around your wrist. “No I’m not… Honestly I wish I was, but you live in my head rent free and I need you to give me a chance.”
Mattheo’s heart cracks when he hears a familiar snicker and turns to see Draco and Theo’s head pop up from around a corner. When he turns to you again he spots a mean smile. He made a fool out of himself being this honest and his eyes go dark as he curses himself. He lets go of your wrist immediately. “I guess this is what revenge looks like.” He says between gritted teeth. You huff. “Don’t wallow in your own self pity, it’s not a good look, Riddle.”
“You live in my head rent free” Draco mocks now standing at the foot of the stairs with Theo and Enzo, who had just joined. It’s when you see Mattheo watch his laughing friends that you spot the honest hurt in his expression. “Whatever.” Mattheo breathes out and takes a lazy step down to his friends. His dead eyes, his slumped shoulders and the crack in his voice. There was no way he was that good of a liar. “Hey.” You say with a shaky voice just above a whisper. Terrified of what you were about to do: give Mattheo Riddle of all people a chance. “I like to study near the willow on Tuesday afternoons, you should join me sometime.” You whisper and give him a sympathetic smile.
Mattheo stops in his tracks and watches you walk away. He can barely believe that he got an invitation to spend time with you. “You look like a fool, Matt.” Theo grins as he walks up to stand next to Mattheo. “Shut up, Nott.” Mattheo growls but there’s a sweet smile that he just can’t hide. “I can’t believe what I’m seeing.” Enzo sings with an amused grin. “You’re not seeing anything.” Mattheo counters immediately, turning around to walk back to the courtyard, keeping his head low to avoid his grinning friends’. With Mattheo a few steps ahead, Draco turns to Theo and Enzo with a frown on his face. “Does that mean we have to be nice to her from now on?” Even though there’s quite some distance between you and the Slytherins, you can still hear Mattheo answer with a firm tone. “Yes.” You bite your lip to hide your smile from the curious looks of the paintings around you. Who would have thought, Mattheo Riddle…
