Paper Fasteners
I have a pretty good idea what the pins Boardman sold look like. We’ve taken quite a few of them out of paper. The stapler wasn’t invented until the 1840s, so people had to be inventive about how to hold things together. Pins were a popular solution, as was string. We’ve been saving them just for fun, when we’re finished, we’ll share a photo of the staples, strings, and other things removed from the collection. Metal fasteners are often removed for conservation reasons, they tend to rust. While we didn’t find any of the pins had rusted, we removed them so that no one would be poked with a pin. Any guesses on how we hold things together once the pins and strings are removed?
