"You've got shoulder fur? I can do that with leaves, Queenie! Only fair, since you copied my hair!"
HIII! Feels like it's been ages, Jelsa fam
We all know the drill, we've got busy busy lives. But I decided my first personal art of the year was going to be my Early Winter AU and now I'm finally posting it! Even in 2026 we continue to persist!
I'm still writing Barriers whenever I can, it's just taking a looot longer than I wish... And I can only wish I finish it before Frozen 3 drops and dumps more lore upon me haha
I hope everyone's having a decent January so far, and if not, I hope it gets better! 💞
I don't read a lot of ongoing fics but when I do I leave comments about every little thing I like and the feelings it made me feel. Even if they're repetitive every update. I WILL leave enough of them that the author remembers my name
I see your fic! I appreciate your fic! I saw that one sentence of foreshadowing! That tiny detail made me smile! You're sneaking in references! Author you are gearing up for angst I can see it in your word choices!!
To be loved is to be known and I will show you how much I love
I'm probably rambling about obvious things, but KPDH thoughts have been fighting for brain space so I wanted to get 'em out. Spoilers ahead!
One of the many things I appreciated about this movie was the parallelism? symbolism? (Ackk I can't choose words right now, sorry) of the honmoon. Especially how it relates to gold—and consequently the song Golden.
Gold is heavily associated with excellence. It's winning first place, it's brilliance, it's perfection. (It's also prosperity and money, but not quite relevant here). These are things that we value because people decided long ago that they're valuable, and we've been striving for them since.
The original honmoon's goal was gold, and this is echoed in the previous generations' mentality. Hide the flaws, hide the weakness. Hunters shine with voices strong. And that's how Golden is too. It starts with each girl talking about their flaws, but eventually it becomes about how they shine now and in spite of them. The goal is to put the loneliness, the fears, the patterns in the past and achieve the golden honmoon—perfection, at least in the eyes of others. They have to be golden.
Ironically, Golden also says no lies and no hiding. And that's the first clue that the solution doesn't actually lie in gold, because it may not be achievable. Rumi at this point is still hiding her patterns, and Mira and Zoey still have their own insecurities. Even if the Saja Boys didn't show up, Rumi's voice was already in danger.
It's not as if the original honmoon was ineffective. It did work—but it was breakable, almost fragile in the way it cracked.
So if the honmoon is a question of what would keep the demons away forever, what is the answer if not gold? If not excellence?
There was a time while watching that I thought singing Golden all the way through or a revised, more empathetic version of Takedown would be their answer. I loved the movie so much more when I heard This Is What It Sounds Like instead.
Because this song talks about what they ARE, flaws and all. Just like people once decided that gold is valuable, they finally decided that their real selves are just as, if not more, valuable. At the very least, they're valuable to the people who really matter—those who care about them.
This creates the new honmoon. A stronger one. It's not gold anymore, it's iridescent, shining in multiple colors instead of just one. And Rumi shines even more because she still has her patterns.
Many people will understand that tying your worth to achievements and constantly chasing perfection is unhealthy. One slip is all it takes for things to come crumbling down, like the honmoon that is tied to gold.
Sometimes, people just need to be able to make mistakes or be flawed or just different—simply to be human, and not be shamed and condemned because of it.
And yes, internalized shame counts too. That's an important point in the movie after all. There's reason to believe that the girls would still have accepted Rumi if she had been able to tell them the secret herself. The problem was that she held on to doubts because of everything they had been taught.
That's why Jinu was important. He was the one who helped her start to unravel those long-held beliefs, even if he was lying about his past.
Jinu was not gold, but he mattered anyway. He became a valuable *ehem* friend, a person worth saving, to Rumi.
So wouldn't that mean that she could also matter that way to someone else? To her friends? They were three girls who could just be themselves around each other.
Huntrix might not be gold, but they shine so much brighter when they have each other. And ultimately, that's what chases the demons away.
... Ok, I don't know if any of this is still coherent, I should probably sleep
sometimes being an adult looks like writing your fanfic during your lunch break, sometimes it's like doing laundry at 1AM because you were out late but still gotta get your damn clothes washed
So as I've been spending a lot of time away from my fic bc of Adult Responsibilities, new ideas have once again begun popping up for it since it's not occupying my brain 24/7 which... IS NOT GOOD ACTUALLY! I don't believe I should stretch this fic out any longer than it already is, else I may never finish it at the rate that I am going...
I want to draw I want to write I want to read my books and webcomics and watch shows and movies and YouTube essays and visit libraries and museums and play around with friends
THANK YOU QUEUE for keeping this blog alive while I'm (mostly) away hkhsjsbs
The brain badly needed time to adjust from all the big life changes the last few weeks.
