A 3rd-century AD student named Thonis, studying away from home, wrote the following letter to his father:​

"Look, this is the fifth letter I've written to you, and you've only written to me once. You haven't said a single word about your health, nor have you come to see me."​

This letter is found in Papyrus 1575 from Egypt and is currently housed in the British Library.
