!!
Iron Man working with the NYPD was something that was more surprisingthan it should have been given the amount of speeches Tony had given aboutaccountability in the past few years, but it was something that was necessaryduring the Syndicate’s assault on New York City. He had figured that meetingwith Detective Montoya would ensure there was an open form of communicationbetween the cops and the Panel, and that relationship had continued even afterOrse was assassinated, but Tony had made it clear that he would deal only withher.
He had more than enough people in authority like General Ross in hislife. He wasn’t going to invite in any more. He trusted Renee, had gotten toknow her over the months that they had been working together, and he knew shehad his back as he had hers. He had no problem delivering armor to her unit, ordropping some subtle intel on her desk, or asking her to keep her ear to the groundfor information that might be helpful for his own investigations.
Tony made most of his friends through work. Looking back, Jessica was theonly one that came to mind that he’d met in a social setting, although at a barwas where he spent more time than a boardroom, at least until recently. It wasno different with Renee. He knew there was a reason she had moved to New Yorkso suddenly, leaving Gotham City in the past, and he had a glimpse at thosereasons each time they spoke.
He wasn’t going to push her to be honest, not when she’d already toldhim enough to make him trust her, but there was something that she wasn’ttelling him.
Maybe it was just his paranoia, or maybe it was her shot being a littletoo good, even for a cop.

!!
Tony Stark wasn’t the only New Yorker who could say he had gotten hisass saved by Supergirl. In fact, her proficiency – and bleeding heart, as itturned out – was such that there were stories of her heroism on every streetcorner. Where other heroes were feared, splashed in trashy newspapers with badstories following their names, everyone trusted Supergirl. It was somethingabout Kryptonians; they had almost overwhelmingly, besides Zod, proventhemselves to be friends of the earth.
When Tony got stuck in the elevator with that girl, he could’ve used thewatch around his wrist to call a drone and get them out, but he’d had hissuspicions. He could have ran a check on her, or came up with some kind ofmission that would draw Supergirl out of hiding long enough for him to confirmhis suspicions. It was much the same as it was for Stephanie Brown in that thesecret Tony was suspecting was one he didn’t need on his shoulders. He hadplenty of things he kept close to the chest, after all. He couldn’t forcesomeone else to cough up.
Maria Hill had an interview with Supergirl coming up as soon as shemanaged to get a moment’s break. Tony couldn’t say he entirely trusted theagent, but he had to admit, he would watch the proceedings with more than alittle interest.

!! Tony and Pietro for M'gann
TONY
Tony had made friends in some pretty strange ways, but maybe how he metM’gann took the icing off the cake and slapped it onto the wall. She was maybeone of the first opponents he had ever ‘fought’ against who managed to outsmarthim; Ultron was another, but he was basically himself so it didn’t exactly count. He remembered standing in themiddle of the tunnel, confusion lacing his expression, as he glanced around forthe girl that had definitely been standing there mere minutes before.
If he had known then what he knew now, he would’ve allowed her tovanish. He would’ve gone home and went into the Panel files and found her name, burning all the information they had about her to the ground. The fact that shehad been suffering right under his nose as he touted the benefits ofRegistration almost made him physically sick, and her presence acted as areminder that the Accords could be so easily manipulated. Bobbi, Jess and Hillwould do all in their power to prevent it going back there, which was the onlyreason he was still on board, but reading about M’gann’s experiences, hearingabout them in her own words, was perhaps the only time when he granted himselfa pause to consider whether the Accords were a good idea after all or not.
She was a good kid. Every time he talked to her, brought her up to thelab, he found more and more evidence of that. She was into everything, lookingat the holograms, swiping here and there and intuitively being able to use thetechnology. If she was looking for a job, he would’ve offered her one right offthe cuff. Happy was concerned about potential Skrulls, but Tony knew that therewas honesty in M’gann’s eyes. If the Skrulls could feign that kind of earnestcheer and good character, then they really were a force to be reckoned with.
PIETRO
The first thing Pietro thought about when he considered M’gann was that Wandawould like her. They shared the same values, after all, the same caring touchthat always seemed to comfort him when he was hurting. Getting shot in the armwasn’t the worst he had experienced – he had, after all, discovered the wondersof literally dying all that time ago in Sokovia, which wasn’t as far from hismind as he wished it was – but it certainly wasn’t beneficial for his ego. M’gannwasn’t condescending. She was calm, patient, cleaned the wound and drew it outwith her powers, and Pietro was reminded of the hundreds of times his sisterhad done the exact same thing for him as they traversed through EasternEuropean countries, often pursued vigorously by HYDRA.
They had gotten along since the first time they spoke, and that wasprobably highly unlikely considering how different they were, but the friendsyou made in times of war weren’t the same you would make when everything was atpeace. Pietro knew a lot about war, and so did M’gann. They bonded over that, over being outsiders in a country where everyone narrowed their eyes at someonewith even the slightest differences, and they found an understanding in anotherenhanced person.
For a brief moment, he had seen the hardness appear in M’gann’s eyeswhen he defended Magneto’s position. Even as he tried to justify himself, hecould see her retreating further. Now, he honestly wasn’t sure how she feltabout him, but he reckoned he could salvage whatever friendship they hadbuilding before he opened his big mouth without taking a moment to stop andthink. Surely M’gann would understand the social implications of havingsuper-speed as well.
!!
There were enhanced people who decided to use their gifts for good, andthey were heroes. Then there were ordinary civilians, people who had no stakein the fight and yet chose to go running into it anyway. Charlie wasn’t afighter, she was a healer. She had her parents’ legacy to uphold in the form ofthe store, the same way Tony did, and she used it to help people, to protect,to defend those who came to her front door begging for a place to stay.
She’d gotten close to him. He’d brought her out shopping, given heradvice albeit as poorly as he could manage, comforted her when the store wentto shit and the Syndicate were out fighting on the streets. She cared about himin the same way as Peter did, had that shine in her eyes when she looked athim. She respected him, admired him, saw him as Iron Man all the time and notjust when he was wearing the mask.
Tony wasn’t really sure what to do with that. His relationship withBarnes was complicated, but he had tried to make things better for the otherman – he deserved that much. He was a good person, and he would treat Charlie well.Ultimately, Tony trusted him more than he trusted himself around anyone.

!! Steph
Stephanie Black, as she had introduced herself, was an enigma. Tony madea habit of running each person who captured his attention through hisdatabases, and it wasn’t too hard to find a blonde, well-spoken, intelligentgirl called Stephanie who had connections with the Waynes. Her upbringingseemed uneventful, at least up until a point, but for all intents and purposesTony was convinced that his paranoia regarding her was just that.
Her name was Stephanie Brown, for one. Ordinary people didn’t feel theneed to go under an alias. Ordinary people didn’t know how to play the role ata gala as well as Stephanie did at the Panel gathering before Orse was dead, before Peter was unmasked, before everything got a lot more complicated.
Tony enjoyed speaking with her. She was able to keep up with him, had agreat understanding of current events, seemed determined to know exactly whatwas going on. She reminded him of Peter a lot, actually, and whenever he madethat connection in his mind it always made him more than a little sentimentalabout that person.
If he was more distrusting of her, perhaps he would look into heridentity more, try and piece together the puzzle. Until the time where sheproved that she was more sinister than she first appeared, Tony would allow herto keep her secret. After all, he had plenty of his own.
