He hates the way his bare ass feels against this waxy ass paper. Why do doctors have to do that? Strip you down to your bare ass and make you wait for half an hour on a table covered in sticky paper? This hospital gown is embarrassing, the whole thing is embarrassing. It better be worth it, what he’s doing. If Dr. Steiner doesn’t buy this Mercedes, Jonah isn’t sure he’ll have enough to start over somewhere else. He’s been in this bodunk, nowhere town for too long already, usually he’s moved on by now. 

                                  Don’t like being in the same place for too long, don’t like sitting on my bare ass for too long. 

There’s a buzz from his phone, a welcome distraction, even if it is his boss. Sad man, divorced. Well, not yet, but he will be. It’s too bad Jonah won’t be around to see the fallout. 20$ says he gets a motorcycle.

“Yeah, hey, I’m at the hospital right now.. Trying to close this sale.. Uh huh. No, I -” There’s a knock at the door, and he stops the sentence in it’s tracks. “I gotta go, Don, don’t call me back.”

Stepping out of the building, Zach flexed his free hand, trying to loosen up his frozen fingers. There wasn’t much difference in temperature between inside and out and the blankets he’d dropped off weren’t going to be enough. Maybe look into some kindling? Snow was already thick, which left him without time to bring out anything else. 

He shoved his tablet down into the now empty satchel and rubbed at his eyebrow. “Should’ve tried to find some damn butane heaters.” Not a great solution, but not a shit one, either. He spared a glance up at the sky. “One year without freezing, just mix it up a little.” The crunch of snow made him turn. “Hello?”

Fresh off her vacation, Natalie felt better than ever. She was finally stood some solid ground, she had a great job and an even better boyfriend. The world was finally settling in place for her and the surroundings weren’t as alien as they used to be when Atlantis resurfaced. Perhaps she was being selfish, but for the first time in her life she was genuinely happy and so -- she couldn’t bring herself to worry anymore, at least not for the time being. Instead, she decided to visit a friend she hadn’t seen in quite a while, and knew exactly where to find her.

Andrea seemed to have been a workaholic, in a way, and Natalie knew that the labs were a good place for a visit. She had never really been there but she wasn’t as surprised by the sight as she assumed she’d perhaps be; it felt a little bit as if she were in a science fiction movie, only without the fiction part -- it was their reality now. It got her a little excited and she hoped Andrea would have some time for her. ‘’Hey!’’ She knocked on the glass to get the brunette’s attention. ‘’Got a few minutes for a coffee break?” She offered as she pointed towards the coffee in her hand.

Outlive a Thousand Chances || Ethan & Lucas

Ethan had been grateful to hear the news about the sign-ups. He’d gotten paired with the newbie, the Navy SEAL guy that had turned up in town a couple of weeks ago. Ethan heard that the guy had pretty much signed up at the gate and Ethan was glad to be going out with someone who would know how to look after himself. Most of the time Ethan preferred to go out on his own rather than to be paired with a civilian volunteer- they always seemed hellbent on getting themselves and him both killed whenever they were out there. This would be different though- better. And Ethan didn’t need some pesky untrained tagalong right now so he was glad that they’d given him the new guy and that he’d be armed as well. 

Ethan was a little tender still, bruised and a little cut up where he’d gotten into that fight with Devan and her dog. He didn’t particularly want to talk about but it was impossible to hide the damages, particularly since he was sporting some pretty good bruising and swelling on the one side of his face.

He pulled the truck around to the gate, catching sight of Lucas standing there waiting. Ethan leaned over to open the passenger’s side, aware that the door had a tendency to get stuck from the outside.

Para Shuffle || Ethan & Sophie

Ethan was outside with many others, helping to build makeshift walls around the town. If they could protect the perimeters and eliminate any threats that were already inside it would just be a matter of defending the town after that. It was a strategy that appealed to Ethan and he was doing whatever he could to help- whether that was hauling materials to build the wall or defending the others from any zombies that wandered up during the construction. It had been a very long couple of days without much sleep and he was absolutely starving but there wasn’t time to stop. He swore that once this all blew over he was going to take some time off work and take a vacation of some kind. He just wanted to spend a few days sleeping and eating and smoking too much.

He heard someone approaching from the side and dropped the tire that he was carrying, having thought that it might have been a walker. He was relieved when he saw that it wasn’t, his face relaxing as he saw that it was just one of his neighbors from Greenwillow.

“Hey Sophie.” He said with a tired smile.

Para Shuffle || Mia & Molly

Mia was ready to make an attempt at getting home. She had hid out in the back office of Happy Paws since yesterday but she was anxious to get home where she wouldn’t have to hear the growling and clawing of the vet and customer that had turned the day before. She snuck out of the back door and into the street, pulling her hoodie closer around herself as she realized it was already getting dark. She hurried along the edges of building, trying to keep from drawing any attention to herself. 

If she could just make it home safe things would be okay...

Paying Respects // Aly & Alex

It felt like they had taken a small step back now. The night they had planned to celebrate and show just what life with Originals in power would be like, ruined. What had happened? How had they even gotten into the building? Thankfully, there weren’t more causalities than there already were. Kieran...It hurt to know that one of her own had been struck down by this so-called Resistance. And then there was Jenna, so much potential. She remembered the woman from when Aly had used her modeling career as a cover. Jenna had been an ambitious enough woman. Who knows what use the Originals could have made of her.

Besides all of that, this shooting only highlighted how far behind some of the Second Generation were when it came to their training. If only Ella had been more in control of her power...Shaking her head, she pushed her thoughts aside and looked around her. This would be a good time to establish more bonds with the Second Generation. To hopefully ensure they wouldn’t get cold-feet about their alliance with the Originals. “This, just like with most things in life, is an opportunity to learn and grow,” she remarked to the Second Gen standing nearest her.
