NOTES: Dom and Parks go to dinner at the Fabray house and it doesnt end well so they visit Dom’s mom instead.
WARNING: racism and homophobia
Parker smoothed down the dress she had bought at Myrtle beach and looked at her parents house. Part of her was freaking out and shouting at her to tell Dom to go back to the apartment. The other part was telling her that they could do this and they could go over to his mom's house. She swallowed some as she closed her eyes and opened up her door while she held onto the pie she had baked for her parents. She closed it, slipped her phone into her dress pocket after she closed the door behind her and walked around the car. She gave DJ a small smile before she held out her left hand for him. They can get through this dinner. She hoped.
DJ sat in the car in the driveway of the Fabray House. He dealt with his fair share of racism in his life. I mean he lived in Ohio. But with Parkers parent it was different because he wanted them to like him. It was a flaw that Dom had where he always had to please people. He got out of the car with her and placed his hand in hers. "Well...let's get this over with." He said softly. The two walked up to the front door together and he stood there as Parker knocked on the door. He squeezed her hand a little bit nervously.
Parker swallowed hard as she returned the squeeze and caressed the back of his hand with one of her fingers. "If they don't answer, can we go to your moms house and eat this pie? Because I baked your mom's favorite and I baked a second one that I have in the car for her." She whispered to him as she looked up at him and heard the clicking of her mom's heels towards the door. "Though, if she bust out a tea cup and a spoon, we're out of here because we're not going to deal with that bullshit." She pressed her ear against the door and stood on her tip toes to look into the door to see her mom talking to her father. She gripped his hand a bit tighter as she waited for her mother to open the door.
DJ laughed. "Deal." He looked at her and watched her look through the door. He just waited with her as her mother came to the door. He wondered why after all this time now they wanted to have him for dinner. "Don't take any shit from them Dominic" his mom had said to him when he told her Parkers mom invited them over. His mom wasn't fond of her parents either and for good reason.
Parker smiled a bit when she heard his laugh and quickly turned into a plastered one when she saw her mother and father looking at the young couple after they opened up the door. "Hi you two! Don't you guys look like the perfect couple?" Judy said as she looked at her daughter and her boyfriend with a smile. "Don't they Russell?" Russell plastered a fake smile as he hugged Parker after Judy grabbed the pie out of Parker's hand and shook DJ's hand. "They sure do." Parker tried not to roll her eyes when she heard her father's reply and placed her hand back in his. "Its good to see you again, DJ." Judy said as she stepped aside and let the couple in. "Im going to go and put this in the kitchen while Russell can show you his newest trophies." Parker glanced back at her boyfriend and glanced at her mom. "Actually, I was going to show him around if that's okay? Since he didn't get the chance in high school." Judy stopped and looked at them. "Oh, of course. Then you guys can look at the trophies." Parker nodded slightly before she watched as her parents disappear and led him towards the stair case. "How're you holding up?"
DJ perked up when the door opened. He took Russels hand and nodded. "Nice to see you too" he told them. DJ walked inside with her and he listened to the conversation. He looked at Parker and just nodded. He followed her up the stairs and DJ nodded. "So far so good." He said. "Uh...trophies for what?" He asked.
Parker nodded as she let out a breath and glanced over at him before she started walking up the stairs with him. "Probably golf tournaments, tennis tournaments and I think that's pretty much it. Unless he picked up another sport since I moved out. Oh! also with my trophies that I need to get still."
DJ "How boring" he commented. DJ kept following her as she showed him the house. "You sure we should be up here this long? I dont want your parents thinking we are fooling around or something." he sighed.
Parker "Yeah, but thankfully I didn't play tennis or golf." She said. Parker stopped in front of her bedroom and cupped his cheeks gently. "Hey..take a deep breath. We can go back downstairs, get some water and pretend that we're interested in the stories. Make it through dinner and jet over to your mom's, take a shower so that way we don't have to smell like snob, rich people with a horrible taste of sports before it sinks into our skin." She whispered as she rested his forehead and looked at him. "I don't want to make you feel even more uncomfortable and Im sorry if I am, that wasn't my intention at all." Judy glanced at Russell as she made her way to the stair case and stood in front of it. "Dinner's ready you two." She headed back into the dinning room and looked at her husband before he sighed. Parker looked towards the stair case and looked back at him.
DJ looked at her and he laughed. "Okay" He pressed his forehead against hers and he kissed her softly. "You're fine. I just wish they actually liked me you know. They don't even know me" He sighed. DJ looked at the stairs and he nodded towards it. They went back downstairs and DJ walked in. "Smells great in here" he said putting a smile on his face. How could anyone not like DJ? He was polite and respectful. Unlike his high school self. He had changed a lot last time he saw Parker's parents.
Parker smiled and returned soft kiss. "Okay. I know, me too and right. They don't and they're missing out on someone who's a hard worker and a gentleman. Also, who's treating their daughter right." She kissed his lips once more. "Yeah and I didn't know I was hungry until now." She replied with a polite smile and swallowed hard. "Thank you two and please, go ahead and sit down." Judy replied as she sat down and felt Russell push her chair in. Russell sat at the head of the table as he gave the younger couple a decent smile.
DJ sat down at the table next to Parker and he put his napkin on his lap. He sat there in silence. What was he supposed to say to these people? He had no idea. DJ smiled at Parker softly and he fidgeted with the napkin in his lap as the food was brought out to the table.
Parker returned the soft smile as she gotten up to help with the food and placed it in the middle of the table. "Oh! Hi Parker, I didn't know you were here. I was wondering who's pie it was on the counter." Parker smiled when she heard Dana and gave her a hug. "Hi Dana and Im sorry that I didnt go and come and say hi when we got here. I figured you can try it too, its Mrs. Jones favorite pie." She spoke as she helped her with the vegetables and glanced at Dom with a smile and looked back at Dana. "We?" She nodded as she heard her father clearing his throat. "Sweetie, stop making small talk with Dana, she's a very busy lady." Parker turned around and looked at him before she turned back towards Dana. "How about you sit down next to me and I'll dish the rest of the food out, yeah?" Dana smiled as she sat down next to where Parker was sitting. "And food is served." Parker said as she grabbed the water and filled up glasses of water then served them out before she sat down. "So, you brought Mrs. Jones' favorite pie?" Russell asked before she saw her mother placed her hand on his arm. "Yeah, I did because its a great tasting pie that everyone should enjoy." Parker gave her father a grin and took a bite out of her food. "So, DJ, are you still playing football?" Judy asked before she took a sip of her water.
DJ watched Parker go to the kitchen and come back out with someone DJ had never met before but he knew who she was. She was the maid...the server. It was like he stepped into a time warp or something. He adjusted in his seat uncomfortable. It was awkward. He watched her sit down at the table one chair away from him and he gave her a small smile. He was going to introduce himself before Parker came back with food and water. He sat their quietly watching everyone's subtle movements. "Um...no I haven't played since high school. I uh..I'm about to go into the credential program next year after graduation for teaching." he explained and cleared his throat a bit. He took a sip of his water and picked up his foot to start to eat.
Parker "Before I forget, Dana, this is my boyfriend DJ well Dom and babe this is Dana...the server." Parker replied uncomfortably and cleared her throat, knowing this is going to be bad. Parker reached over and gave his knee a soft squeeze. "Oh really? That's amazing, isn't it Russell? That our baby girl found someone who is educated and is going to have a bright future as a teacher." Judy said through her teeth and kicked Russell in the leg. "Oh yeah yeah. So great the guy who used to be a player will be teaching kids. What subject will you be teaching? How to play with girls' hearts to the point where they chose to move in with the player and not stay with their family?" Parker swallowed as she glared at her father. "If their parents wasn't racist and homophobic, then she would've stayed with her family but yet. They kicked her out just because she has a different sexuality than her family members and come to find out that they hate her then best friend and now boyfriend's skin color along with being homophobic." Judy looked at her daughter. "Parker Gwen Fabray, that is enough." Parker looked at her mom. "Oh no, Im getting started."
DJ smiled at her and nodded. "Nice to meet you" He said softly. He looked at Russel and could feel the tension in the air at his comment. He put his fork down and before he could speak he watched Parker get angry and blow up at them. He put his hand on her knee. "Parks..." he shook his head. The room fell silent and he looked at her. He wanted to say something polite or apologize but then DJ realized he was not the one that had to be polite or anything. They didn't deserve it. "You don't even know me. You know high school me and even then you never knew me. You wanted to. And if you invited us to come here just to criticize us then I'm sorry but I'm done." he stood up and looked down at Parker. "I'm sorry babe. I love you more than anything in this world but you dont fucking deserve this." He looked back at Parkers parents. "I wanted to come here to be nice and polite and maybe you could see the kind of man that was there for your daughter, took care of your daughter and absolutely loves your daughter more than you, but if you can't look past the color of my skin then forget it."
Parker swallowed hard she felt his hand on her knee and took a deep breath before she let it out. "Sorry.." She whispered as she took his hand into hers and glanced up at him before she stood up as well as she placed her napkin onto her plate. "Im done too. No you have nothing to apologize for babe and I love you more than anything in this world too. Neither do you." She placed her hand on his arm as she stood by her man and looked to see the look on her mom's face, almost in tears before she glanced over at her father to see his jaw clenched. "And if you don't accept our relationship because of past events and your own hatred. Then that's fine because this man right here has been more family than either of you two have been and Im not worried about not having a family because the Jones will always welcome me with open arms and I have friends who will be there for me along with my two sisters." She let out a shaky breath as she felt tears coming as she looked back at her mom. "And mom, I wished you would've done something years ago by telling dad that you've known about my sexuality and that you told me that you approved of Dom back in high school. That, Dom is a lot better man than Jeremy was just because you saw the way we looked at each other and how happy I am around him." She looked at her mom in the eyes as she felt a tear roll down her cheek. "I needed my mom and you were so scared of what he would do that you just sat there and let him kick me out. Just because you were afraid of a bad feeling, because that's what we do right? Push aside every bad feeling. If you don't talk about it, it doesn't exist. I-" Russel quickly stood up and looked at his middle child. "Don't turn this on us! You are the one who messed up by becoming friends with this boy and became a disappointment to this family!" Parker flinched as he spoke and looked at him as she swallowed. "Why? Because Im not a little girl anymore and I decided to take a chance on him? And I quickly fell over heads in love with every inch of him? Including his skin color and his reputation as a player? Because I knew that he was more than a player, that I knew that I will always love him no matter what? Along with the fact that I knew that I was attracted to boys and girls back then? I needed my parents to accept me for who I love and who I am and love me unconditionally, but I didn't get it from you guys. I got it from the Jones and everyone else." She breathed out as she looked at her father and swallowed the sob that was caught in her throat. "Let's go baby." Parker turned to leave and looked at Dana. "You're going too, you no longer work for my parents okay?" Dana quickly gotten up and took off her apron. "Thank you Parker." She whispered as she left the dining room and grabbed her bags. Parker wiped her eyes as she glanced back at Dom and her parents then started to walk away. Russell looked at his daughter and felt Judy's hand on his arm. "Parker, if you walk through that door, don't come back crying to me once you're broken hearted." Parker stopped walking and looked at her dad. "Good thing that he won't break my heart, huh?"
DJ stopped when Parker started to speak and he realized that this was way beyond him. He watched as Parker and her dad went back and forth. When it was over and the three of them got into DJ's truck he took a deep breath and looked over at her. "hey...baby" he pulled her close and wrapped his arm around her. "Fuck them. You already have a family and you don't need them." He pet her hair back as he held her. "Come on we'll go to my mom house and just...have a real family dinner and calm down okay?" he pulled away and looked down at her. His lips pressed against hers softly. "i'm so proud of you" he said softly. DJ rested back in the drivers seat and he looked behind them at Dana. "You're welcome to come to dinner too" he nodded.
Parker instantly wrapped her arms around him and closed her eye as he pet her hair. She nodded against him, let out a shaky breath and sniffed. "Okay." She looked up at him and returned the soft kiss. "Thank you." She replied softly before she rested her head against his shoulder and turned to look at Dana as well. "I'd like that, thank you." Dana gave them a small warm smile and glad that Parker came back. Parker placed her hand on his chest and stayed like that until they reached his mom's house.
DJ started the car and they left the Fabray house for good. It wasn't that long to his mom's house. They parked in front and he kissed the top of her head. "Come on lets go in." They walked to the door together and being back in the house he grew up in was much nicer. It felt like home every time he came over. "Mama?" he called out. "Oh it turned sour didn't it? I swear to our Lord and Savior that those parents do not deserve my little baby" Mama Jones said as soon as they went into the house. She walked right pass DJ and pulled Parker into her arms as if she was her own child. "You're home now baby" She spoke. DJ nodded towards Dana. "Mom this is Dana, she worked for them." DJ's mom Angela looked up and she raised her eyebrow. "Dana?" She asked. "The Fabray's is where you were working?" DJ frowned and looked at Parker. "Wait...you two know each other. Angela nodded. "Yeah we go to the same church Dom."
Parker could feel herself relaxed when they stepped inside and rubbed her arms after she placed Dana's bags onto the floor. She smiled once she heard his mom's voice and wrapped her arms around her. "It turned sour the moment we stepped in." Parker murmured and relaxed against her as she nodded. "It feels great, honesty. I also brought you your favorite pie too, well two pies." She raised an eyebrow as she pulled away and looked DJ with a shrug as she glanced at Dana who was nodded slightly. "Yeah, that's where I was working until Parker here said Im not working for them anymore. Which Im glad that Im not anymore because that's a whole level of stupid. No offense dear." Parker shook her head with a smile. "None taken, I know who you're talking about." Parker wiped the rest of the tears. "I forgot that I left the pies out in the car, so Im going to go and get them."
DJ handed Parker the keys to his truck to get the pies and her wiped her cheek and kissed her softly before she went out. He smiled at his mom and she bummed his hip playfully, giving him that 'im proud of you' look. He kissed her temple and smiled. "Love you mama" he said softly. "Well, I will make dinner and you guys just relax. Maybe we will watch some Criminal Minds later!" She clapped. Angela was obsessed with Criminal Minds and it was hilarious. She always made DJ and Parker watch it with her when they could. 'no come sit sit sit, you have to see what these crazy white people did this episode' she would say.
Parker thanked him as she grabbed the keys and couldnt but help smile when he wiped her cheeks and returned the soft kiss before she headed back outside. She sniffed as she unlocked the door, grabbed the two pies and the backpack that she packed before they left the apartment. Parker placed the strap onto her shoulder, closed the door and locked it. She headed back inside of the house and closed the door behind her when she heard Criminal minds. "I know for sure I'd be interested in watching some episodes later." She replied as she handed the keys back to Dom and kissed his cheek then murmured a soft 'I love you.' before she headed into the kitchen. She placed the two pies on the counter and looked. "Do you need any help with dinner before I change out of these clothes?" Dana pulled out her phone and texted her daughter to come and get her. "And I would love to stay for dinner Angela, but my daughter's on her way over to come and pick me up. I have an appointment in the morning, but I will talk to you after the service tomorrow."
DJ smiled as Parker came back. "Yeah yeah I'll see you tomorrow Dana." Angela said. She turned to Parker and clapped her hands. "Oh you weren't lying about my favorite pies. You're a sweetie. We are gonna relax tonight and forget all about that stuff okay?" She patted Parkers cheek. "Nope no help. Go relax with your boyfriend, I'll call you when dinners ready. You two can do the dishes after okay?" Dom grabbed Parker's backpack and went to his old bedroom that was turned into a guest bedroom now. He sat down on the bed and looked over at Parker. "You okay?" he asked her.
Parker Dana waved goodbye and left. Parker shook her head with a smile. "Of course not and well, I do have bad influence when it comes to being sweet so." She nodded as she patted her cheek. "Okay." She couldnt help but smile at the word 'boyfriend', like somehow everything was better despite of what went down. "Okay." She thanked him when he grabbed her backpack and followed him to his old bedroom. She shrugged a bit as she pulled out their clothes and looked at him. "Im okay." She replied softly and sat down next to him as she looked at him. "You okay though?"
DJ smiled. "I'm okay" he said looking back at her. "I mean...were we really expecting anything different" he ran his hand across his head. "I remember that day that you left there. You were so upset and my mom knew...she knew how special you were and basically loved you more than me." he chuckled a little. "You've always been part of this family babe. And we don't get to chose our parents but we can chose our family and I'm just happy you're part of mine. You're all that matters" he nodded.
Parker nodded slightly as she kept looking at him and shook her head. "No, but I was hoping that it would be a whole different ball game tonight." She reached up and removed the bobby pins from her hair. "Yeah and how fast you got over there....Its because Im lovable, but she also knew how much I meant to you." She looked at him with a smile and rested her head on his shoulder. "I know, since day one it seems like and Im happy that Im apart of yours, thank you for letting me be apart of yours." She glanced up at him. "You're all that matters too."
DJ sighed. "It never is with them." he watched her closely. "Yeah..mama knew way before I even did" he laughed a little and laid back on the bed after kissing her cheek. "I love you baby" he smiled and pulled her down on the bed with him, holding her in his arms. "Life would not be the same without you." He said softly as he caressed her arm gently.
Parker shook her head. "Nope." She agreed and laughed a little as well. "Don't worry, she knew way before I did too." She smiled a little when he kissed her cheek and smiled when she heard him along with feeling him pulled her down on he bed with him. "I love you too baby." She wrapped her arms around him and rested her head on his chest. "Well, life would not be the same without you too." She looked up at him as he caressed her arm and pecked his lips the best she could. "It would be boring and not right at all." She rested her head back on his chest and gotten comfortable before she let out a content sigh. "We still don't have a song."
DJ held her in his arms and he gasped. "We don't do we" He laughed. "It's probably Pony..." he joked and tickled her side playfully. "I'm just a bachelor. I'm looking for a partner. Someone who knows how to ride. Without even falling off. Gotta be compatible. Takes me to my limits. Girl when I break you off. I promise that you won't want to get off" DJ sang to her. He sat up on his knees and made hand motions as he sang.
Parker let out a laugh. "We dont." She replied and started to laugh as she squirmed as he tickled her side. "Probably since we've played that song a lot." She propped her head up with her hand and laughed a little when he made hand motions. "Sing it baby!"
