Is it finally going to be Richie Porte’s year? His victory on the climb to Paracombe at the Santos Tour Down Under bodes well although bad luck does seem to haunt the guy. The Tim Bardsley-Smith shot was published in Cycling

Bargain Of The Week
Paracombe Pinot Noir, Adelaide Hills 2012 $20
OK, $20 is a bit more than usual for my bargain bottle, but this is a very good pinot for an unusually low price. The aromas of black cherry and blackberry are super-ripe and the wine is rich and lush, with a squashed-berry sweet-fruit flavour and some alcohol warmth. Not a fine pinot, but generous. Now to 2018. 14 per cent alcohol. 89/100 (Huon's Wine 360)
Food: pork ribs and plum sauce
Stockist: Glebe Liquor
Top Aussie red
Paracombe Shiraz, Adelaide Hills 2009 $21
This has a touch of elegance, which is not common among ’09 South Australian shirazes. Deep red-purple colour; menthol, spice and mint aromas, including pepper and clove. Full-bodied, fleshy, rich and smooth with very good balance. Drinking well now, and for 10 years. 14.5 per cent alcohol. 92/100 (Huon's Wine 360)
Food: grilled lamb chops
