paranormalcrab replied to your post: ugh so fucking stressed out from tonight. i have...
I’m sorry if I came off as offensive, but you know that I pretty much agree with you on 98% of our world view. :( But you know we study two different fields, and that probably brings us to a different conclusion for a handful of reasons.
no no no shhh stooop STOOOOP
you said representation isn't important when in fact that shit is crucial, especially when it comes to young children. are you familiar with that doll experiment? where young black girls were asked which doll (black and white) looked like she was good? they chose the white one.
no matter what you have been through or will go through, as a white cis-gendered straight male, i will always have it worse in society. even if you were gay, you'd have it easier. do NOT for a second believe that growing up, your experiences can equal mine in the level of shittiness. whatever you dealt with, i'm sure was awful, but i had to deal with that PLUS be black in a society where black people are shown to never achieve anything and simply live off welfare (if we can get it since, you know, mostly white people get welfare).
go do some research before you open your fucking mouth and try to argue with me about race not being that impactful on employment. so many black people can tell stories where they interviewed over the phone and showed up to shocked looking faces. "oh we were expecting someone else." yeah, someone WHITE.
if i decide to do the dumbass action of educating you, you had better shut the entire fuck up and listen because i am speaking not as someone who just read the articles and statistics online, but as someone who gets the fun deal of experiencing this shit irl. just recently a white woman asked my mom why she doesn't have cornrows, and i know that doesn't seem like a big deal to you, but that's racist and you know what? my mom had every right to snap and be angry, but she was polite and reserved when she responded because snapping makes a black woman look like a stereotype, an unhealthy one portrayed in media because of SHITTY REPRESENTATION
SO DONT FUCKING TELL ME REPRESENTATION DOESNT MATTER WHEN I SPENT SO LONG OF MY CHILDHOOD ASKING GOD WHY WASN'T I BORN PRETTY AND WHITE LIKE THE DISNEY PRINCESSES. DONT TELL ME IT DOESN'T MATTER WHEN IM PHYSICALLY TRYING TO ALTER MY BODY TO LOOK MORE EUROPEAN AND PRETTY AS A FUCKING CHILD. DON'T TELL ME THIS SHIT ISNT THAT SERIOUS WHEN EVEN AS A TEENAGER IM SITTING IN BED ASKING MYSELF, "SHIT WHY COULDNT I HAVE BEEN WHITE SO THAT WE WOULDNT BE SO POOR, SO I WOULD FINALLY FIT IN WITH SOMEONE, SO MAYBE I COULD HAVE A HERO TO LOOK UP TO."
THIS SHIT IS FUCKING IMPORTANT TO ME AND WHEN YOU SCOFF AND ROLL YOUR EYES AND SAY IT'S NOT THAT SERIOUS YOU ARE TELLING ME THAT MY STRUGGLES THAT I HAVE LITERALLY BEEN DEALING WITH SINCE I WAS A CHILD AND WILL CONTINUE TO DEAL WITH AREN'T REAL PROBLEMS FOR ME OR ANYONE ELSE.
GUESS WHAT FUCKFACE. THEY ARE.
i dont have to link you to any fucking statistic or article because you're fucking smart enough to google it yourself. when you have educated yourself, fucking let me know. if you're too lazy to google, check this blog's /important and /racism tags.
until then, dont say a damned thing because you DONT know what it's like and you will NEVER know. you can buy new clothes, lose weight, cut your hair, and get contacts; when i wake up tomorrow, my hair will still be thick and my skin dark, so you think about that when you say we have the same struggles. your voice will still be considered more important than mine, no matter what.
