Witch Myth: Yew Hollow - the magic of a tree
Now Yews have been associated with pagans for a very long time – and in the UK, churches were often built on sites where yews already were growing to associate the new religion with the old. And are often growing on ‘blind’ springs – perhaps to mark these spots?
The Yew, Taxus baccata , is an ancient tree species that has survived since before the Ice Age and as such as been revered and used by humankind throughout the ages. All races of the Northern Hemisphere, especially the Celts, the Greeks, the Romans and the North American Indians, have a right and powerful understanding of this unusual and remarkable tree. Because of its longevity and its unique way of growing new trunks from within the original root bole, it has now been estimated that some English Yews are as much as 4,000 years old, their presence spanning ages of time and history. No wonder the Yew is associated with immortality, renewal, regeneration, everlasting life, rebirth, transformation and access to the Otherworld and our ancestors. [see: whitedragon.org-yew]
So I guess it is no surprise to find in this 6 box set that witches have moved to a site where a large yew tree is growing – and the village that has grown up around them is called Yew Hollow _ though more normally they would grow on a hill rather than in a hollow.
There are 6 books in this box set, which is the completed series:
Witch Myth: A Yew Hollow Cosy Mystery
Witch Myth: A Yew Hollow Cosy Mystery
Witch Myth: Wild Fire – Yew Hollow Cosy Mystery
I found all 6 books fun and read them through directly as the next book starts with the last lines of the previous book and so very easy to follow as a marathon read.
I particularly like Kennedy, the heroine of the set about Wild Fire. I liked her refusal to bow to authority and her ability to be snarky, yet empathetic when required.
The novels are written nicely in a flowing style that is easy to read and undemanding.
