page 38: oooh arrakis is so pretty when it isn't actively trying to kill you <3 also: KYNES IS BACK EVERYONE MY BEST FRIEND PARDOT IS BACK AGAIN
also 38: ...rabban has gotten a single sentence of this novel thus far, and yet it is the most in-character thing i have ever read. of course he wants to hunt a sandworm, it's glossu rabban
39: the return of chadimir harkonnen, this time with his big kissable lips oooh
39-40: kynes talking about corrinth: yea it's pretty but yknow. cities and civilised places don't much interest a planetologist like me :)
kynes talking about carthag: god, what an ugly shithole. i hate it here
40: ah, i see abulurd must be very pro sun protection then.
okay, i know we all like to laugh at rabban and his stupid decisions, but also, like. have you ever been 21 and severely sunburned all over your fucking face and you had a shitass haircut (presumably bc your cringefail dad has luscious locks??) to boot? maybe you would hunt a sandworm under those conditions, you don't know
41: thekar,,, thekar you are playing with fire here, come on,,, stop sowing before you start reaping
'then today we shall kill a god.' ok glossu
also 41: Rabban: I have a plan
The plan: make shai-hulud explode :)
42: THEKAR YOU ARE REAPING
also... 'delicious little grin?' the narrator has the hots for rabban too, it would seem. those damn harkonnen genes run strong.... the genetic marker of thick lips and endless, invisible to regular people, rizz,,, chadimir and rizzban,,,
43: "my friend" ooooh that's comically evil, i like it.
44: thekar, actively running for his life, desperately trying to outpace a fucking sandworm:
kynes, having a great time on arrakis: that is so sad. anyway this rock is pretty cool, what is that, basalt? oooh and quartz, of course!
45: Glossu Rabban, perhaps the biggest asshole in the Canopus solar system (unfortunately affectionate)
46: SHAI HULUD NOOO
also,,, beached furwhale, huh? i see u foreshadowing
also 46: oh, hey thekar
side note, i think that the book should let the sandworms eat someone. (not u, thekar <3) to this day, i have not seen or read a scene of someone getting absolutely decimated by shai-hulud, and that feels cruel to Me.
48: yet more reaping for poor thekar, i guess. wow what an ominous thing to say, rabban. sure hope it doesn't have anything to do with the next chapter which is set on giedi prime :)
yknow, the thing about rabban is that he isn't actually stupid? he's tempermental and childish and short-sighted and compared to the legendary schemers that are his uncle and piter de vries, he comes across as incredibly slow, but there is actually something going on in that head of his. also, he seems to command some sort of respect/fear/weird affection from his men? all of a sudden it doesn't seem quite as laughably ludicrous that glossu rabban was the baron's heir at one point

Summary:
Decades before the events of Dune, Imperial planetologist Pardot Kynes is accepted into Fremen society and helps them begin the transformation of Arrakis, due only to the sacrifice of the Fremen warrior Uliet. This is not the story of Pardot.
This is the story of Uliet, and a lifetime of spice-tinted dreams.
I am so normal about a character only mentioned a few times in passing in the appendix to a novel. Come be normal with me.
Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans in the finite space of a planetary ecosystem as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who do survive.
-Pardot Kynes, First Planetologist of Arrakis
(From Dune)
Dirt is something solid you can hold in your hand. Using our science and our passion, we can mold it, shape it, and bring forth life. Could there be a better task for any person.
PLANETOLOGIST PARDOT KYNES, petition to Emperor Elrood IX, ancient records

Side Note: Well, don’t give it to Anakin Skywalker. He hates sand.
