HOW THIS WHOLE THING STARTED
Ok, so this "ParentAthlete.com" thing has been floating out there for a few days now, I suppose some background is in order...
My name is Ben Murphy. Like many of you I'm a busy husband and father of 3 young kids with an insanely busy job and bills to pay. And at the beginning of 2010 I was obese. Fast forward to today and I've lost (and, more importantly, kept off) over 60 pounds, competed in triathlons, trail marathons and open water distance swims. It's been quite a journey.
I started a blog about that whole experience - AthleteDad.com - and that's been great, but AthleteDad has been largely (no pun intended) about me. But what I've really become passionate about as a result of this whole weight loss journey is "us." What we're all capable of. The fact that anyone can accomplish anything. The staggering fact that 2/3 of all Americans are overweight or obese. That fact that we are literally killing ourselves through bad eating and inactivity.
This obese-to-athlete journey has changed me entirely. I've found a passion - of simply sharing my own story, and offering others encouragement and information for their own journey. And that's what the Parent Athlete Project is all about. I'm not hawking anything, not selling personal training packages, not selling designer protein shakes or the latest celebrity fitness DVD. Parent Athlete is just a blog, a site - that will grow in daily content - for busy adults and "parent athletes" to check-in, connect with others, find great info and great inspiration on their own weight loss and fitness journeys.
Thanks for checking this out - please help spread the word - and join us on this journey!
