Buggy the Clown as the Ultimate Girl Dad head canons because I, too, am enamored with this guy.
He ended up with eight daughters. Two sets of twins right in the middle. All the same mother. There really isn't a huge age gap either. Every few years there was a new daughter joining the crew.
Ultimate Girl Dad. If they wanted tea parties, then he had tea parties with them. His whole pirate theme is circus, so of course he’s going to dress up with them if they ask for it.
He was often seen with at least two kids strapped to him at all times when he wasn't causing trouble with his crew - a baby on the front while a toddler was strapped to his back. He needed his partner to have a break.
Taught his girls how to do their make up the right way. Sorry, his partner was terrible at it and didn’t want her teaching the girls wrong techniques.
Listen, this guy can break apart. He’s using his hands to feed two kids while his legs bounces one fussy kid and his arms rock another. Listen, this is a skill he began to perfect after the first set of twins were born.
Five of the girls got his nose, much to his horror, so he’s had to work on making sure they never felt uncomfortable about it like he felt about his. He tries to work on his own self esteem about it but it’s hard. They all have his blue hair, however.
He becomes a new kind of legend in a way when his girls get old enough to sail (which to be honest, the oldest was strapped to him up on the crow’s nest two weeks after she was born, much to his partner’s horror (though she trusts Buggy not to put the kids in danger he still does stupid shit from time to time)). Word spreads of this pirate crew of sisters who raise hell in their own way.

Shanks wasn't properly aware what he was asking his old pal to do when he said "check on Luffy for me"
Yeah so like- more caretaker buggy AU
Luffy did not in fact let Buggy know when he was heading out on his adventure to be pirate king
Yes buggy will complain about it to Shanks later.
No, Buggy did not fuss over Luffy. not at all. nope. And no one NO ONE called him mom
I wish Buggy and Shanks were on friendlier terms. I'd like to think Shanks could have asked Buggy in their earlier years to check on Luffy, and Buggy finds not one but three kids. Anyways- I drew that visual
soooooooooo. More ASL and caretaker buggy.
I learned Buggy likes hotdogs :)
Parent buggy AU:
My design for my One Piece AU buggy. He fixed up that coat himself so it would look EXTRA flashy. His hands are a little... injured... but a genius of explosives needn't worry over mere broken fingers(and loss of sensation in hands)
I personally like the random attire look
I feel like Buggy would be more active in trying to Ace in your Buggy Parent AU than he was in canon. Do you think that Buggy being in Ace's made he less self-loathing at himself?
Parent Buggy AU:
Buggy, though goofy, is very perceptive. He would have picked up on who Ace was while taking care of him.
I feel like Buggy sees a lot of his younger self in Ace. Having been on Roger's ship, Buggy knows the feeling of inadequacy, having massive expectations placed on him for being related(crew-wise) to Gold D. Roger. He also understands the self-battle Ace has within himself, questioning if he deserves to even be alive or not, and probably knows that Ace feels guilt for the death of his mother.
Buggy would put a lot of effort trying to stop the self-deprecation going on in Ace's head, telling him that every person deserves to be born, regardless of who their parents are. He also reminds Ace that he is his own person, and therefore is perfectly capable of creating his own path and identity. He would encourage Ace to find his own interests and probably drag him into the world of fashion because he did not want him to become a stinky fashionless man like Shanks.
While I don't think it completely erased the self-loathing, I think the knowledge that someone agreeing that he deserves to live helps him, and also in his eyes, made Buggy his first parental figure.
