Hello, I noticed you had emergency request open... could I have a request with how Lance would react/help his s/o who constantly feels like a failure and that they are never going to amount to anything, so everything they do is really hard for them because they don't see a point.. if your not comfortable with this request that's absolutely okay. Thank you
I FEEL YOU. If you ever want to talk, my ask box (and messaging) is always open. I may not know your exact situation, but I do know what it’s like to feel like a failure and I certainly know a thing or two about self-hatred. You actually sent this at the perfect time because I’m hella down in the dumps and I was gonna write something sort of like this, but now I get to write it and help a friend out so it is a win-win!!!
You smiled on the outside, but inside you were withering. You weren’t as smart as Pidge, and your brain constantly told you that you would never be. You were also not as graceful or beautiful as Allura, or as good of a fighter as Keith. You couldn’t cook for shit and you definitely couldn’t pilot that well either. You waved goodbye to your “friends”. They didn’t actually care about you. They pitied you at most. You waved and walked to your room, falling apart as soon as the door shut behind you. You knew you were crying, but you tried to not acknowledge it. You sat down on your unmade bed, I can’t even clean up after myself… How hopeless. You thought, throwing off your shoes and burying yourself under the covers, lying face down and crying freely into your bed. You couldn’t pilot much so you were stuck in the castle while the paladins went out on a mission. You were supposed to give them coordinates, but you misread them and managed to mess everything up. The paladins had tried to tell you that it was an easy mistake and they didn’t blame you, but you doubted they were being honest. You reached under your mattress to pull out your journal. You write in it what went wrong today, and look back on all of your past failures, only making your mood fall even more. “What is wrong with me?” you cry out, digging your hands through your hair desperately.
“Y/N? What’s going on?” you heard a very familiar voice on the other side of your door.
“Go away, Lance, everything’s fine!” you shouted at him, your cracking voice proving that everything was not fine.
“I’m coming in,” and like that, your door was opened and Lance made his way towards your bed, plopping down next to you and rubbing your back. “Are you… crying?”
“No,” you said weakly, hiding the journal under your pillow.
“What’s up, babe?” he asked, bending down to try to get a look at your face.
“Just leave me be, I’m sure you have something more important to do,” you nuzzle your head further into the mattress.
“Is this about the mission? It really wasn’t your fault!” Lance gently grabbed your waist and pulled you up from your position so he could look you in your tear-filled eyes.
“It’s not just this mission it’s everything. I can’t do anything around here and honestly, you guys should shove me out into space,” you covered your face with your hands.
“Y/N, what are you talking about? You’re amazing. You are so helpful around the castle and everyone really loves having you here. Everyone makes mistakes, but that doesn’t make you a mistake,” Lance pressed you against his chest, wrapping his arms around you in a tight embrace. “I know what it feels like to think you’re a failure. To be honest, I kind of feel like the extra wheel around here…” he nestled his face into your neck, pulling you a bit tighter.
“Wait what? But you’re the sharpshooter! The team needs you!” you exclaimed.
Lance chuckled, “That’s ironic. I feel like someone just said that you…”
“That’s different…” you mumbled.
“How so?” Lance pulled back to see your face.
You shrugged, not looking up.
He pulled your chin up, getting you to hold his gaze, “It’s the same principle here. You’re so important to me and definitely to the team.”
“I don’t feel like that. I feel like everyone just pities me, no one actually likes me.”
“That is NOT true. Everyone loves you here! Especially me,” Lance wiped your tears with his thumb. “How about this, until you learn to love yourself, I’ll love you enough for the both of us,” Lance gave you a kiss before bringing your head back to his chest and he placed his head on yours, whispering sweet reassurances.
