He was a New York psychiatrist who went to Hollywood to help lay down guidelines for sex and violence in films. Not everyone was pleased.
When I'm a parent I'm never going to make comments on my child's body. Unless they are positive like, 'you look so beautiful!' 'You look so happy and healthy!' 'You're skin is glowing!' I'm never going to say anything like, 'you look really skinny.' Or, 'those pants look really tight.' I'm not going to say things negatively about my own body either. I'm never going to squeeze my stomach or pinch my thighs in front of my child. I'm never going to tell them they can't eat that or stop eating that. I know what it's like to hear this from a parent. I know what it's like to have your body commented on by the one person you seek approval from. It's hard. It hurts. And I will never do it.
Wound up seeing Wolf of Wall Street with my mom - here's what she had to say about her expectations: "I didn't know there was going to be nudity in it!" [high fives me] "But I did know there was going to be drugs." [big smile]
My dad sees the parental guidelines that come up before an episode of Shameless and gives a whispered "yes! Nudity!" cheer like a twelve year old boy. Pretty sure that's not how they were intended for parental use.
