Breaking intergenerational trauma. Honoring ancestral and intergenerational strengths. It's been an unnerving 7 days. My dad was twice in the hospital. On the second visit he stayed two days in the lovely hallway of the hospital due to lack of beds (Covid 19) Doctors weren't sure if he had another stroke or a mild heart attack. We are grateful he is home and released early. (Doctors predicted a 5 day stay) My dad had a mini-stroke (TIA) Grateful we are able to see him and give him some joy, laughter and solace. Hasn't been an easy time. Many challenging conversations and breaking intergenerational trauma/violence. This is the first time we have all been in the same room in 10 years. He is happy to have us all here vs different visits with some of us/schedules etc. In photos. Me , my senior sister and older brother. (I'm the baby of my mom's kids). My niece, nephew and sister in law (sister). My dad turns 81 on March 15th. We have a legacy of longevity and living to a seasoned age/crone wisdom. My grandmother passed at 106. May our dad's quality of life improve in his wisdom years. Btw Our family has an unrelenting work ethics. We got dad to stop teaching last year in public schools at 80 years old un the mist of a pandemic ( which hasn't stopped). It's the immigrant in us. You create a way out of no way. My dad is continuing to create his future and planting seeds of possibilities with his grandchildren. Me rest is calling me name. Actually all of us. #parentinganelder #QueerAdventures #lgbtia #QueerAfrica #Yorùbá #artist #ebi #globalpandemic https://www.instagram.com/p/CY4QnICle5m/?utm_medium=tumblr
