❝   i’m sorry i wasn’t feeling up to going.  ❞   it’s clear that dmitri’s sentiment is  GENUINE,  though it’s also quite apparent how truly grateful he is that amb allowed him to do so,  and didn’t provide significant guilt for his absence.   as he closed the door after her,  his smile was remorseful,  and he gently laid a hand upon her elbow as he moved to face her,  his eyes softening.    ❝   you look absolutely  STUNNING.  i wish i could have been there with you.   ❞   a  soft kiss laid upon her cheek,  an apology for abandoning her to face a christmas party alone,  a promise to return the favour,  in whatever way she needed, a gesture of  THANKS  for her empathy.
