steddie HCs: love at first sight

as an apology for my karate kid/“Bobby Brown deserves two girlfriends” rants to the lovely @winterknightshade , I’m taking some notes from their favorite tropes list and writing them for steddie. I might do more from the tropes list but i make no promises <3

When Eddie first met Steve, Steve was supposed to be just another junior on the basketball team. But there was something about him that was just…different. Eddie never went to basketball games for the life of him, but he’d heard about it, of course. The entire school never shut up about basketball—never seemed empty-handed in funding it, either. But when Eddie went to a mandatory pep rally—he’d tried to leave, but a teacher caught him—he actually saw Steve for the first time. Coming out all big-haired and sporting that cutoff jersey and those adorable little basketball shorts. The cheerleaders (hell, pretty much all of Hawkins High) went wild at the announcement that they’d won against Whoever-The-Hell-Cares High. Not Eddie, though. He had eyes only for this boy he’d never seen before. Harrington, his shirt said. One could say it was love at first sight.

When Steve first saw Eddie, he had already graduated. He didn’t want to come back to Hawkins High, but he’d become something of a Friend Taxi. From taking Robin to school to picking up Dustin, his gas bill was through the roof, not that anyone was offering to compensate. He was picking up Dustin from this weird nerd thing—Dragons and Dwarfs, something like that. He knew this club was ran by Eddie “the freak” Munson, but he’d never actually seen him. When he entered the room, though, and saw him on this throne, lights like a theater and fog machines to boot…Steve’s heart raced. Large hands adorned in rings with nails painted black, untidy hair, big brown eyes and something of an unsettling innocent disposition…Steve knew he was getting into more than he bargained for.

the backstory is that he’s at mine and randomly asks him to help make someone jealous and i’m like 🤨 at first but give in and we take that w my phone and then later i see he makes it his lockscreen and i’m like “???!??? what happened to jealousy” and he just smiles and doesn’t explain
