PARIS 1942
"Paris 1942"

8/30/25.
This release will undoubtedly be something that both Micah and I talk about. Micah has worshipped at the altar of the Sun City Girls since I've known him. I've been smitten by Moe Tucker for about as long.
Paris 1942 actually gives us the answer to the question, what happens when you put the Bishop brothers in Moe Tucker's living room in Phoenix, Arizona in the early 1980s? Come on, you know that question has been on your mind for quite some time. Guitarist Jesse Srogoncik rounded out the group. They apparently practiced prodigiously and played 4 shows. The liner notes for the 2 LP describe the music as providing "a missing link between the Velvets and the Voidoids, between the Dead Boys and the Dead C, between ESP-Disk' (Ed Askew) and DNA."
Richard Bishop compiled this 2 LP behemoth and another LP worth of covers and oddballs (including two Velvet Underground songs and a killer cover of The Modern Lovers' "She Cracked").
Thanks to Superior Viaduct for releasing this. It fully releases on Halloween.
“...hints at the middle/far east tinged smudge the Girls’d hit on a decade later while the flip is more kraut-meets-cactus type of looseness...”

Happy 11th birthday blog.
As I've said before, I have zero problem with a band exhibiting clear hero worship. Sometimes, I love hearing another band's take on a classic sound. I never call it "ripping off".
Save My Skin (Biel, Switzerland) "Different Bubble" definitely has two clear hero worships going on - The Velvet Underground and Pavement. And that's a party I'll never get tired of attending. Any fan of Fortunatti Durutti Marinetti, or Nick & the Nod will also enjoy this release. Also, this is the perfect time to remind us of Paris 1942, the great Superior Viaduct reissue featuring Mo Tucker and the Bishop brothers from the early 1980s.
Save My Skin "Different Bubble" was released in mid November 2025 by Swiss label Chrüsimüsi Records. We covered this label in April 2024 when we posted about Sun Cousto.

Paris 1942 was a short-lived band featuring a pre-Sun City Girls Alan (and possibly Richard) Bishop plus Maureen Tucker from VU. They recorded an album in 1983 that was shelved until 1995. It’s out of print but FM Shades has a download for the whole thing, the username and password for the dl are both fmshades
