One of haute couture’s most underappreciated designers is finally getting the attention and side gig she deservers.
Mauboussin, the French jewelry house founded in 1827, has enlisted the Paris designer Bouchra Jarrar to design high jewelry. The collection will have its debut this July during the Fall haute couture shows.
Jarrar arrived on the couture scene in 2010, an alumnus of Nicolas Ghesquière–era Balenciaga. From the start, she exhibited a rigor of cut and a focus on the essential. Tailoring continues to be her specialty—her latest show was strongly influenced by military uniforms and included some of the most desirable peacoats we’ve ever had the pleasure to see.

Or he’d update demure traditional forms, fashioning turned legs and flared arms out of peasanty sandblasted oak or iron with upholstery as rough as dishtowels.
