Through war, revolution, and natural disasters the Notre Dame Cathedral has stood the test of time, and that's why seeing any part of her beauty being reduced to charred rubble and ashes is both heartbreaking and unfathomable at the same time.

Although it seems like it was a lifetime ago, I can still remember standing in the pew of the famous structure as I was granted the opportunity to attend evening Mass. Admittedly I couldn't understand a word being said as I have below the basic knowledge of the French language, but I will forever have that awe-struck feeling ingrained in my brain as I looked around at the brilliant architecture surrounding me. Being inside such a symbolic place so deeply rooted in Parisian culture can almost give you the sense that you're being transported back in time; to an ancient and surreal period in history where you can easily understand the pure beauty of everything you are witnessing. It's a moment I will never forget.

I chose to share this breath-taking photo that was captured because, despite the obvious tragedy that occurred, I look at this and I can't help but to see a beacon of hope. To me not only does this moment perfectly symbolizes the resilience of the Parisian peoples, but it can also serve as a reminder that we are never alone even in the darkest of times. Paris will recover from this and what they rebuild will be even more sacred to its people. The City of Lights will burn bright yet again. 🇫🇷🙏🖤

Anger

Its interesting how anger can so swiftly rise in the wake of attacks like these. I have fallen victim to it today even though I am half a world away and I have found it hard to remember to step back and breathe even though I am not directly affected. I know this may seem self-aggrandizing (and for that I apologize) but I found myself flashing back to how I felt after 9/11 when I had to wait 48 tense hours to find out if a dear friend had survived those attacks as he worked in an office above the impact sites. I remember my righteous anger that looking back I regret because of the collective anger that we as a nation used to justify atrocity that has bred a culture of terror. I know my views may not be popular but it just reminds me of erie similarities in the post 9/11 US. In the end we need to remember the very human cost of war anywhere in the world and that people will flee this horror and though it is hard to seperate the real refugees from those who would exploit the refugees for cover, we have to remember the value we place on human life and understanding. And that in the end we truly do want to provide solace to those in such desperate need. I stand strong with the people of Paris. I can say I understand your fear and your very deserved and justified anger and I will never judge any of you for yelling, screaming or venting. You have all been attacked. Paris has been attacked. France has been attacked. And the world truly stands with you. I love all of you! Vive la france. (Pardon my bad french) My mailroom is open to any who need it. *big hug*

Why The Paris Attack Is A Good Sign

First and foremost my heart goes out to the friends and families of those killed or wounded in the Paris attack. I could only imagine the pain and anger that you must be feeling. I hope that you may soon find peace.

I’m no political expert by any means. I am not trying to pretend to be. I am simply putting my opinions down. I feel that the attacks on Paris is a good sign. A sign that the Islamic State (IS) is losing. It seems every time there is a devastating blow dealt to IS that they then proceed to attack innocent people to spread the fear that they feed off of. They are losing. The phrase “it’s always darkest before dawn” comes to mind. This is (hopefully) one of the last attacks they will have the power to go through with, therefore it must also be one of the most tragic. Furthermore, I was almost brought to tears this morning. When I woke up and checked my Facebook I was overwhelmed with the support I saw. Heart warming posts, pictures of support, and even people I know in Paris checking in to show that they were alive and safe. That’s the thing about humans. We may fight and bicker a lot, but when it comes down to it there are far more good souls in this world than bad. No matter what happens, even in the face of death the good souls come together and shout “WE ARE NOT AFRAID!”. Bravo Earth… Bravo

This was the only truly sad time in Paris because it was unnatural. You expected to be sad in the fall. Part of you died each year when the leaves fell from the trees and their branches were bare against the wind and the cold, wintry light. But you knew there would always be the spring, as you knew the river would flow again after it was frozen. When the cold rains kept on and killed the spring, it was as though a young person had died for no reason.
