How to order from Starbucks

For my final project I decided to use another medium page. I thought medium would supply the perfect format to allow text, images and video. I did my project on ordering from Starbucks, which required use of all three. Medium is also incredibly easy to use and navigate.

I thought as a barista this is something I know all about. I can sometimes take hundreds of drink orders in a shift and I’ve noticed what works, what doesn’t and what people struggle with the most when they are new to ordering.

I found this really enjoyable and even included a few of my favorite drink recommendations at the end. I am very proud of the formula I created for ordering and I hope this ends up helping someone out next time they are looking to order but aren't sure how.  Colleen Parkison

Loving Vincent

I chose this photo from Loving Vincent because I think even someone who doesn’t study color and art could tell that the blue evokes sadness, but anyone who looks further can find even more meaning. His sadness is shown both through his facial expression and the various shades of blue. Although blue can have many meanings such as sky or sea, in this photo by his expressions we see sadness. Blue is a primary color meaning it is a color from which other colors can be obtained by mixing. Blue is also a cool color, in art cool colors tend to have a calming effect. Cool colors have blue undertones. In the film Loving Vincent, Van Gogh is described as a calm man. That could be another reason beyond sadness that blue is used in this image, and Vincent himself seems to be represented with mostly blues. This photo also lacks almost any color other than blue and his red hair, creating a melancholy tone. When it is animated in the film it becomes even sadder from the movement.  Colleen Parkison

My Favorite Vacations

For my storymap I mapped out all of the places in the United States I have vacationed, although I have never been outside of the United States so I couldn’t really do anywhere else. I outlined some of my favorite places, such as Sedona Arizona or New York City, and some less memorable places like New Jersey and Rhode Island. It was really fun to see all of the dots on the map and I realized I need to start traveling to more states in the center of the US! Hopefully I can as soon as the pandemic is over. Teddy Meets His Furever Family

For my storyboard I decided to make a comic about when my family decided to adopt our dog, Teddy. He was abused at his first home and when they decided they didn’t want him anymore they dumped him. A very nice person found him and took care of him for a little, but she couldn’t keep him forever. He lived with another dog at a shelter for a little, but they did not get along. When my family found him we fell in love with him. Now he goes on walks with us everyday.  Colleen Parkison

Sedona Arizona

For my wakelet page I decided to write about Sedona, Arizona. It is one of my all time favorite places to visit, and one of the places I have visited most in my life. I love going with groups of friends or even just one or two other people. I can’t wait for summer so I can go back! Colleen Parkison

Cat Dog Blend

For my blend I chose a photo of my dog, Cappuccino, shaking at the park because I thought it was cute and funny. I blended it with this photo of my best friends cat, Boo. Boo is sunbathing and looking very tranquil while Cappuccino is frantic and shaking some leaves off his back. I thought this did a good job of showing cats versus dogs and how different they are so I thought they would be funny photos to blend together. Colleen Parkison
