Hyunjin sent a brief text to let Taemin know he was coming over, however, he never received a reply back. But whatever, there were a million and one reasons why he may not have responded right away and it’s not like it took that long to arrive in the first place, because he was literally walking out the door when he texted. Worse case scenario, he’d check to see if Joon or Minho were home and chill with them, but when Jin tried Taemin’s door, he found it unlocked. “Hello?” Hyunjin just walked right in, shrugging to himself. And just when he thought he maybe should have checked Joon’s place first, Taemin appeared. “Ah, you are alive. Feeling any better after Comic Con?” It had been a couple days since but he knew Taemin was stressing prior to the long weekend.

After leaving the festival, Joon had ended up going back to Jamie’s to stay the night. And by morning, he texted his brother to see what he was up to. Which turned out to be working. So, he spent the rest of the morning with Jamie and made plans to meet up with Taemin for lunch. He felt like something was wrong just by the way his brother was texting—was that weird? Like the tone of his text felt off. Joon borrowed one of Jamie’s hoodies, as well as a beanie to try and hide his blue hair a bit just in case he ended up going to Alphatech since colored hair usually seemed frowned upon in companies. And when he met with him at a place not too far from his work, he could definitely tell something was off by Taemin’s posture. “Work doesn’t have you stressed out again, does it?”

It had been a while, yet again, since Hyunjin had last spoke to Taemin. But he knew if he wanted to keep their friendship, he needed to sincerely get over it. And he was. Getting over the crush he had developed on his best friend. He’d usually drop by unannounced but since everything that had happened lately, especially with his friend dating again, he really didn’t need to drop in on them together. So, he shot Taemin a text and once he had the okay, he was on his way over. And since he had given the heads up, he assumed the door would be unlocked. Which it was. And he just let himself in like he would have otherwise. “Honey, I’m home.” Jin ran a hand through his hair after kicking his shoes off and walking further into the apartment.

Joon had no recollection of how he got home or how he made it to his bed. Yesterday was a complete blur. His entire body ached and his head was still pounding, though not as bad as it had been previously. He still felt nauseated. Especially any time he tried to move. But he kept falling back asleep until a sudden jolt had him managing to sit up. It still took a few minutes before he truly woke up and started to piece things together. Joon was still wearing his scrubs from work. So, that meant he had to have been at work at some point. Right? ...or was he late? And where was his phone? He checked his ears for his hearing aids before looking around his bed, then finding everything on the nightstand. He needed to text Noah and let him know... let him know that he wasn’t coming in?

Taemin. Joon stared at his phone. He was certain the message he was staring at was from his brother because of the picture he had set but he couldn’t make any sense of it. He knew he couldn’t avoid him but he didn’t want him to know. Not after everything Taemin had been through himself. Joon knew he needed to reply so he could keep any suspicion at bay. But considering it all looked like a foreign language to him right now, that wasn’t happening. So, what? The next best thing was showing up in person? Not exactly, but that was where Joon found himself once he managed to get changed and got his hearing aids in and working. He was confused and a bit sluggish but he knew what he was doing at least. Well, after he had to go back to his own apartment to get the keys to Taemin’s because he forgot them. Joon got the door open and closed it behind him, leaving his keys on the kitchen counter as he usually did. And shit, he was too afraid to say anything because he had no clue what time it was. Maybe he should have waited?

It had been a while since everyone had gotten together for a family dinner. And with everything that had been going on lately, especially revolving around Ho-dong and the possibility of their parents finding out if they hadn’t already, Joon thought it would be nice to surprise them with a dinner. Luckily, it seemed to work out perfectly. Joon had texted his dad earlier to see if they would be home later, making it sound like he was going to casually stop by. But after hitting up the store and getting a few things with Taemin, they made their way to their parents’ house and let themselves in with a key. “I texted dad to let him know we were stopping by and if we got here before they got home, we’d wait.” Joon smiled, flashing his brother a thumbs up. That was the plan all along; to get there before they returned home from work. But Joon didn’t want to freak either of them out, finding someone in their house without warning. “We still have a little time. Should we try to make dinner before they get here?”

They probably should have planned this a little better. Or they should have arrived together. Because trying to find Taemin in this crowd was a headache. Hyunjin was Pikachu, for crying out loud. Bright yellow. He was the easier one to find. Granted, he was running a little behind on when he said he’d meet up with Taemin and this was only taking longer. When he finally did spot his friend, he quickly approached the bar and ordered two shots but the second they were poured, he held a finger up to stop the bartender, downing one of them on the spot and getting a refill, paying and heading towards where he had spotted Taemin. He threw an arm around him, waving the shots around in front of them with a smile. “Alright, no sulking. The party, hold on—” Jin passed one of the shots off to Taemin and took his arm back before flipping his Pikachu hood up, “has officially begun. Come on.” He held up his own shot with a grin. “Happy Birthday, man!”

Christmas wasn’t a huge deal to Joon but he always enjoyed it because it meant everyone getting together under the same roof again. Not that they had to have a holiday for that; visits happened without needing an excuse. This year felt even more special though with the addition of Dal and Minho. Granted, their parents didn’t know Dal’s true relation yet and Joon would have liked for Jamie to have come along too. But he figured he could join him later, fearing Dal would feel excluded if he and Taemin both had their significant others there. Joon found himself sneaking into the kitchen after their mom pulled Minho aside to help her, watching for a moment in slight amusement and stealing a couple bites here and there before Mina shooed him away with both of them laughing. So, Joon retreated to Taemin. He was going to pretend to whine about their mom making fun of them trying to help cook and her picking favorites with Minho before he let everything actually sink in. How different everything was compared to last Christmas, but how happy everyone was. That meant the world to Joon. He propped his chin on Taemin’s shoulder and wrapped his arms around him from behind before he ended up pinching his cheek with a grin. “Taeminie, you wanna know something that never gets old?—This.” He let go of his cheek and stepped back with a laugh, ready to defend himself if needed since he knew Taemin hated when he did that. “Mom kicked me out of the kitchen. What’re you guys talking about?”

💧 Wipe away my muse’s tears

It started yesterday, when Joon started to feel sick. Today was a lot worse. He kept himself together until Minho ended up leaving for work. But after throwing up and walking out of the bathroom, Joon startled when he noticed his brother. He quickly wiped at his face but it wasn’t like he could hide anything now. He wasn’t even sure when Taemin came in. “I’m fine. I just don’t feel good,” Joon signed. Taemin wiped away a tear and lightly ruffled his hair before ushering him to his room. The downside to all of this was that Taemin would probably spend the remainder of the day with him, which meant his brother dropping any and all plans he had. But… Joon was thankful because he hated being sick.

They were at their parents house, letting them take a break while Joon, Taemin, and Dal made something for dinner for everyone. When it was just about finished, Dal went to get them as it felt like Taemin headbutted his shoulder. “What?” He glanced over at him, messing his brother’s hair. “Have you been getting enough sleep?” Joon knew what it was. Taemin had to leave again tomorrow, and he figured he didn’t want to address it. No one did. So, Joon wrapped his arms around Taemin and squished him. He hoped he’d be able to enjoy what was left of the evening without dwelling on tomorrow. At least Taemin being gone for work was only temporary. It didn’t make it suck any less, though.
