After checking on Lyla and seeing that she was still asleep, Hyunjin found himself crawling back into bed for a moment. Just to rest his eyes because Beth said she was going to come over this morning, and he still had to get up and function, get dressed, etc. He jumped at the sound of the door though, eyes shooting open. Fuck, what time was it? Jin immediately looked over to find Lyla rolling back and forth a bit in her crib, legs pumping in the air when she recognized him. And with the cutest gummy smile, she let out a screeching giggle. “You’re really not good for my heart, kiddo. You’re gonna make it burst. You know that though, don’t you?” Hyunjin smiled, pushing himself off the bed and raking a quick hand through his hair before picking little Lyla up to get the door. “Coming!” Well... he was sure there had been mornings Beth had seem him looking a mess while taking the garbage out or something prior to today, back when they were neighbors. This wouldn’t be much different. “Say good morning, auntie Beth.” He gave his daughter a small bounce, Lyla babbling and squealing again.

Mature was a word Hyunjin thought had always described him. Around certain people, his maturity level would drop, sure. But this was new. The Hyunjin that wanted to run when things got too serious? When something became too difficult? Simply settling because it was easier? That version of him was gone. He had to admit all of the talks about adoption started out great, and the more real it became, the more he panicked a little on the inside. But now that they were home, now that he was holding this small, six month old baby in his arms, his heart honestly couldn’t feel anymore full in that moment. 

It was like he was completely awestruck. He barely even paced. Just stared down at Lyla cradled against his chest, finger gently brushing at her hair. One small label, one tiny inconvenience outside of her control, and no one had wanted her. He simply didn’t understand how because honestly? He was pretty sure he was already in love. “I think she’s starting to fall asleep,” Jin kept his voice down, finally moving a couple steps and looking up to find Alex with a smile. His attention ended up falling back to her mere seconds after though, smile still plastered on his lips. “Should probably take Cheddar out. It’s been a long day... You wanna hold her?”

“Oh God, you don’t know how happy I am to spend time with someone who’s not puking, milking me like a cow or pooping every 2 minutes” She was pretty sure she hadn’t washed her hair in like a week and that her sleepless face was obvious to anyone, but she had never felt as happy as she felt right now. Her twins were amazing, despite all the hard work that they involved, and she was in love in a way she had never thought she could ever feel. “Don’t take me wrong, Jae doesn’t puke, milks me or poops, well, he does poop but not in diapers and.. I’m getting sidetracked, I’m so happy to have visitors, come in, Yuna and Jaemin are sleeping, or I think they are, but those little aliens will wake up, they don’t give us any pause”

“I, uh—hello to you too.” Hyunjin chuckled at the unnecessary amount of oversharing while walking in. Over the course of about a year, things had changed so much. It still felt a bit surreal to think about. Hyunjin went from keeping his visits with Amelia a secret, to her and his brother finally getting back together and getting married. Now, he got to be a proud uncle. And a father that was in a serious relationship of his own. Who would have thought? “You mean I came all this way to visit my niece and nephew, and they’re asleep? What a waste.” Jin smiled, clearly just giving her shit. “I came to visit you too, no worries. But sounds, and looks, like you could use a break. No offense. Sit down, kick your feet up for a bit. Shower. Do whatever you need to do.” Things were finally settling down with work, so Jin felt like he was slowly getting a life back. And Lyla was, well... babies were exhausting to put it bluntly. He couldn’t imagine having the twins full-time. Jae and Amelia had far more patience than Hyunjin did. “If they wake up, I’ll take care of them. What are uncles for, right?”

Amelia would not judge Jin for living in a honeymoon phase and being late all the time with the lamest excuses he could come up with. Would she tease him? All the time, but she would not judge him because she was honestly so damn happy that he had found Alex and was making long term plans. So when he kissed her cheek and apologized once again for not being on time, she could only giggle. “At least this time your shirt is buttoned right, although I think you put your jacket backwards, honey, and you might want to cover that hickey” She teased, there was no hickey but it would be fun to see Jin trying to explain that.

“Cheddar—” Hyunjin grumbled under his breath once he realized the dog tipped his water bowl again, thus spilling some. He grabbed the towel and dropped it over the spill before bending over to grab the bowl. And just as he did, he felt a smack on his ass. “Excuse you? That’s what made me late the other day when I met up with Amelia.” Jin laughed, rinsing the water bowl out and filling it back up, placing it back in its spot. “Now she thinks anytime I say I have work or a meeting, I’m with you.” Hyunjin smacked Alex’s ass in return as he picked up the towel. But before any kind of retaliating could happen from there, Jin chuckled, pulling him into a kiss. “Your ass. The bedroom. Five minutes.”
