Typically don’t like sharing my photos let alone having them taken. But I figure why not. 

I am what some as of recently call a “tri-racial” never knew that term existed til recently actually, but I prefer being referred to as mix-blooded. I am part Irish American because of my mother and get my Native American and African American (or what some call a Black Indian) from my father.

Even though I am mixed, I feel most attached to my Native ancestry. Don’t deny my others, because once you start denying even the most minute part of your heritage you lose part of yourself - but I have felt the most accepted among the Native community.

While I appreciate stories and movies about racism faced by mixed race people, I’m gently reminding you that you should be careful of people who say they’ll accept a mixed race person who’s part white, but they’ll never accept a mixed race person who’s not white at all.

I’ve met too many people in positions of power over me in the past who made it clear that they only accepted mixed race people with white ancestry but would never accept, like or respect mixed race people of colour.

This doesn’t just happen in fiction (it’s become popular in young adult literature and tv shows - people who are willing to show people of colour as heroes if they’re part white, but think that a person of colour with no white ancestry is unrelatable). It happens far too often almost everywhere in real life.

Note: I’m not mixed race, but I am a person of colour and I have mixed race relatives and friends.
