Welp, needed to draw a hawk Homunculus, and there is already a character who fits that description (though specifically an Eastern Buzzard Homunculus). Probably the only Homunculus in-canon who's treated with any sympathies (which only serves to confuse the themes... and the explanation of what Homunculi even are in the series XD).
Washio's design in canon was wretched when it came to his full-on hawk form. It was at the point where the maker clearly was rushing along and didn't want to bother with complex organic character designs--so Washio ended up looking like a big helicopter with robotic hawk legs and a painfully badly-proportioned hawk head/weird visor for human-like head. This rushing is probably also the reason his true hawk form was barely used, and Washio became the Homunculus character with the rare ability to partially transform between humanoid disguise and giant hawk monster. It became more like drawing a simplistic anime hoomen just with a big weapon--instead of bothering with his actual full form.
Which means I have to redesign Washio's partially-shifted form too. Which is good. I do like Washio quite a bit as he is, and since he is actually slightly developed I need to do little to tweak his personality besides adding different backstory.
And here's his partway form--not something that just any Homunculus can do. It takes quite a lot of extra energy to maintain for long periods, but he is much more agile and is less of a target without very much sacrifice in strength. Due to this, you would really only see Washio like this if he intends on getting into a massive fight (probably only with a Weapons' Alchemist... or perhaps a rogue Homunculus).
There have been some minor design alterations besides him being far more of an organic being. Notably, the point where his taloned arms and wings split is much higher up his arm. While weird-as-all-get-out anatomical features are pretty ordinary for Homunculi--having fully articulated wings and clawed arms that split at the elbow, but are still individually dextrous... uh, physically didn't make sense. They now split at the shoulder and the proportions are fixed up so that it looks feasible.
Still weird-as-all-get-out, but feasible for an alchemy life form. XD
