I'm so stoked to be back on the mats and with a great team. The first night back there were 4 black belts and many other high ranking students in the fundamentals class. They've been very welcoming and helpful. At the spring promotions it was a big surprise when Professor Harold presented me with my blue belt. It means a ton to me. There have been so many people along the way starting with @gpoopus who wrangled me on to the mats after Conner was hooked. I'm grateful for the many high level coaches and training partners at Eugene MMA both in the gi and 10p no gi that took the time to help me advance. The one dude that pushed me all along is @laughingbadger . We started at the same time and he was my solid training partner for over 2 years. Even when I took time off over the last 2.5 years he stayed in touch and consistently asked when I'd be coming back, without pushing too hard. I also appreciate the constant stream of chonky raccoon clips he sends my way. I'm still a little confused about the 'Fight' mechanic; does it count as combat? Because if not, then surely things like First Strike don't actually work?

Fight does not count as combat. Damage dealt due to fight isn't combat damage. First strike has no effect on fight.

Is there a / what is the difference between M14 and D14?

D14 just means it was spoiled on Duels of the Planeswalkers 2014, not on a physical card. In theory cards spoiled this way should also be in Magic 2014.

What would happen if I played Progenitor Mimic as a copy of Primordial Hydra? Do the counters get copied with it or..?

Copy effects never copy status changes (like whether the object is tapped/untapped) or counters. A Progenitor Mimic that copies a Primordial Hydra will be 0/0.

Okay this question is extremely specific. Say my opponent has Serra Avatar on the Battlefield and it, for whatever reason, be it Vault of the Archangel or Gift of Orzhova or whatever, it has Lifelink. Assuming Boros Reckoner was capable of blocking it / being blocked by it, without the First Strike ability, which ability would activate first, Serra Avatar's Lifelink or Boros Reckoner's damage dealing? In short, could I kill my opponent by redirecting the damage, or would Lifelink save them?

Lifelink will save them.

Lifelink used to be a triggered ability, but they changed the rules on it several years ago and made it just an automatic effect of the damage. No one gets to respond in between when combat damage is dealt and when the player gains life from lifelink; by the time anyone gets priority, the player has already gained the life.

By contrast, Boros Reckoner’s ability is a triggered ability, meaning it will go on the stack and players get to respond before it resolves. (You can tell it’s a triggered ability because it begins with “When,” “Whenever” or “At”.)

So here’s how it all comes together:

The Avatar deals combat damage to the Reckoner. The Avatar’s controller gains life as a result of lifelink. The Reckoner’s ability triggers, its controller chooses a target for the ability and the ability goes on the stack. (All of these things happen more or less at the same time. No one gets to respond in between.)

Players get to respond.

Finally, Boros Reckoner’s ability resolves and deals damage to whoever/whatever was the target of the ability.

Can a creature that has 'Protection from Creatures' still block creatures?

Yes. A creature with protection isn’t stopped from blocking, just from being blocked.

Obzedat, Ghost Council, under normal circumstances, can't ever attack, right? Since he doesn't have Haste?

Incorrect. One thing to be mindful of is that Obzedat’s end step trigger says “you may” — if you want, you can choose not to exile it, in which case if it hasn’t left the battlefield or changed controllers by the beginning of your next turn, it’ll no longer be summon-sick (just like any normal creature).
