So I’m really digging this idea of a party witch, I don’t remember which inktober prompt I got it from but I love it haha. So like obviously I had to put her in this awesome 80’s prom dress. I tried to make her have a more ‘hispanic’ skin tone but in still trying to figure out this new watercolor palette. But I am in love with this new palette so far haha.

Ritual Graffiti, Witch Marks, and the Medieval Churches who Cast Curses | Broadly

Etched in the ancient walls and pews of Medieval churches are spells, talismans, and curses. They were created by both the parishioners and, more surprisingly, their church.

Told you fuckers. The blurring of magic and religion in late antiquity/early middle ages is probably one of my favorite things. Check out the zine if you don’t know.

SPELLS TO DO BY THE SEASIDE

Ok so I'm going to Seattle and I want to do some spells by the ocean. One for making someone want to marry someone else, one for keeping one from being in ones dreams, and one for strength during imprisonment. You da best!

Let’s break down the spells you require. 1) Marriage. 2) Dream Banishment. 3) Strength During Imprisonment. Each will be addressed in its own tidbit.

2) The problem with using the ocean to banish someone from your thoughts is the same issue Gob ran into trying to fling a letter into the sea. The wind and the tide can throw shit right back into your face. Or think of all those bodies thrown into the East River in Manhattan. Eventually they wash up in Jersey. Unless you tie rocks onto that motherfucker. What I would suggest is writing the heinous fucker’s name on a piece of ribbon, weaving that ribbon through a sage smudge stick (frequently used in banishing/exorcisms). Sprinkle some nutmeg on the sage (nutmeg is thought to inspire prophetic dreams), then tie the whole shebang to a cinder block or something. Hurl ensemble into ocean, flip off ocean until you feel better. Take a dip and wash that dude outta your hair.  

3) I have never seen The Sound of Music, but I had to sing a lot of those songs in elementary school. And there’s a line in “How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria” that feels relevant. How do you catch a wave upon the sand? Ya can’t. The ocean is so much bigger than any manmade structure trying to hold it, and the same can be said for anyone in prison. Their connections to the outside world are so much bigger than the structure itself. My suggestion would be to make a devotional object by catching a wave in a jar. Decorate the jar with things that relate to the concepts of “strength” and “prison” for you. I would probably decoupage dictionary pages onto the jar, as the dictionary is the most requested book in prison, and was the key to Malcom X’s education and self-liberation. You could also add things to the seawater, like a key or file or just some glitter. When you feel this person needs extra strength, shake up the jar and remind the world that the ocean is bigger than the jar, and your friend is bigger than their sentence.
