If, like me, you reverted in 2010's and were active on tumblr at the time, partytilfajr/osama eisa was probably very much on your radar. When I was in my early 20's, spiritually confused and very eager to make sense of my newfound religion, I looked up to him as a resource and role model - The image he cultivated made sure that was likely.

This is, unfortunately, far from the first time I've learned that someone in a position of social power has abused that power on this platform. It's also not the first time that someone acting as a spiritual leader in an American Muslim context has abused multiple women - those of us who remember Nouman Ali Khan certainly recognize the pattern.

I'm writing off the cuff, here - I have a mind to link to various resources, and I certainly want anyone who follows this blog to reach out; If not to us then to trusted people in their communities, and to disclose if they feel they're being manipulated by a faith leader.

Spiritual abuse is... so, so real. And it's gone hidden among Muslims for far too long. I don't know how to end this statement- I'm thinking of the women this man took advantage of, I'm making dūa for them, I'm sending lanat on this cruel, vicious man, and all men like him who seek to harm vulnerable women.

If you need you speak to someone, please don't hesitate to message- I'm able to provide an ear and familiar perspective for my fellow shi'a, and will gladly do whatever I'm able to for Muslims of all paths who need someone in solidarity with them.

Siblings, take care of yourselves. Trust ﷲ ﷻ with all things, and listen and speak to your friends. I love you, Allah loves you, and Islam is for you, no matter how many terrible people try to use it to harm you.

Hi, I want to learn more about Islam, but I can't really find anything good with much detail on the internet... Are there any books or resources that you'd recommend? :)

I would advise reading the Quran (translated ofc) and visting a mosque people there would love to help even if you don’t want to convert and just want information. The people there are usually educated on islam so for specific question I would advise that. Also there is an Iman @partytilfajr  here on tumblr he answered a lot of question you can find  on his faq

Ever since the whole partytilfajr thing, I’ve been trying to follow up. and I’m only now just finding out about Fatih Seferagic and Mohamed Zeyara as well. I never really followed Fatih Seferagic but I know he’s a famous Quran reciter. I used to watch Mohamed Zeyara’s inspiration series thing, but now looking back, he did those with Bayyinah Institute. And we know Nouman Ali Khan is also another one of those people who have also been accused of doing some nasty stuff. NAK is still not bad though compared to the rest.

At this point, I’m kinda wary of Omar Suleiman as well because of the people he’s been in company with...

Doesn’t matter, I don’t follow any of these people but I think all this is proof that we shouldn’t really look up too much to all these preachers of even so-called Islamic influencers (regardless of whether they have an online presence or not). If they provide meaningful and beneficial content, then yeah take it. But don’t need to treat them like some kind of celebrity or influencer.

This is part of the reason why I don’t really watch a lot of Islamic videos on youtube anymore. I used to watch NAK’s lectures a lot but after the whole scandal, I just stopped watching not just his videos but anyone else’s in general. I also don’t watch a lot of Muslim youtubers especially those really famous ones. And also those who make content on Islam like debates, commenting on other Muslim youtubers etc. Some of them just give off really weird vibes 😬

We should really be mindful of who or what our sources are when it comes to religion. It’s not something to take lightly.

Man it really makes me happy seeing people as intelligent and invested in the wellbeing of others as Osama is (partytilfajr). The way he delivers advice is absolutely perfect for his audience too, it amazes me mashaAllah.

And what makes me more happy is knowing that any one of us can be a positive force on tens, hundreds, thousands of people if we choose to continuously develop ourselves and find our niche in the world.
