The words shock him, they pry his attention away from the little Padawan in his hands who’s tugging at his sleeve and up at the armored man in front of him. He doesn’t know him very well, Luke realises. He visits frequently but never for very long. All the time he does spend on the planet is spent with Grogu. Not that the Jedi can blame him for wanting to be with his son.
However, as such, everything he knows about the Mandalorian is through the heroic tales of his student. Who has projected enough memories through the Force at him to know this man is an honorable warrior and a loving guardian.
The proposition hadn’t come out of nowhere. Luke had jokingly complained about how stressed he was, taking care of Grogu, his lessons and the plans for his academy all at the same time. It was meant more as a way of friendly conversation than anything, nor had he expected more of an answer than the Mandalorian’s usual grunt of affirmation.
But, as the offer is made Luke realises how much he would actually like that. Having another person there, one he knows is more qualified to act as Grogu’s father than he could ever be, it would be nice. It would be, but despite that, he shakes his head.
“ Your offer is kind , but I can’t make that decision for you . “ Luke says, gloved thumb absentmindedly rubbing gently over the child’s head.
