Today is the New Paschal Moon. It's named that because when it becomes full, it will be as the Greeks call "Pascha" a transliteration of the Hebrew "Pesach." That word, translates into English as Passover. In Western Christianity, the Sunday following the first full moon after the Spring Equinox is Easter Sunday. In Eastern Christianity, it's the Sunday following the full moon of the first new moon after the equinox -- which is why the Orthodox sometimes wait almost a month after the West has celebrated. This year, both East and West coincide (April 21st). The Jews don't go by the equinox, but instead bases the Passover new moon (Nisan) upon the ripening of barley in Israel. Incidentally, their new moon won't officially start until the crescent can be seen after sunset, which is expected tomorrow night. #passover #pascha #paschalmoon2019 #easter (at Fayetteville, Arkansas) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bv3vAlMD9mV/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1qv4f2zvz7fw0
