Every-time I see those pride posts without the ace flag I low key die a little inside, no lie. I'm comforted by that flag and people just... ignore it. :|
hard same. it’s really discouraging, and like
the thing about it that gets me, or, well, one of the things, is... the only flags that are older and have a longer history than the asexual flag [proposed in may 2009, finalized in august 2010] and are still frequently used are
the rainbow flag [original with pink from 1978, six-color version from 1979];
the bisexual flag [1998]; and
the leather and bear flags are also older, but don’t get used nearly as often and exclusionists tend to delegitimize the connection between leather/kink and the queer community anyway.
the genderqueer flag is from 2011, the pansexual flag is from mid-2010, the nonbinary flag is from 2014, the original lipstick-lesbian flag with the kiss mark is from the end of 2010 and the stolen reappropriated version without the kiss mark used for lesbians overall wasn’t used until at least the end of 2015, the more widely used intersex flag is from 2013, the agender flag is from 2014, most of the flags that get included on posts like those are much much newer than the ace pride flag, and half of them were created by people on tumblr and get included with literally no complaint about age or validity.
it’s fucking exhausting to see the legitimacy of a community that’s existed since before tumblr was a gleam in david karp’s eye debated by a bunch of 15-21 year olds that are insecure in their own identities and need to shit on other people to feel better, and people can say “ignore it! just tap out of the discourse, i’ve done it!” all they want, but it’s way easier to do that when it’s not your identity being debated by people who have no stake in the argument in the first place, and i know full well that it’s just a bunch of insecure kids punching down with the limited clout they have but it STILL grinds you the fuck down to see posts carefully and deliberately worded to exclude you or intentionally leaving out the most widely-recognized symbol of your identity and claiming there’s not enough of a history for you to be recognized when newer symbols get included no problem and people will jump down creators’ throats for not including a flag made in the last four years that has no saturation beyond this shithole website in the first place
