This month I’ve been on a #GratefulAF journey with @passionsquared and today’s task is to “Thank a Mentor”. Some of the days were harder than others. Not today, today’s was easy. When I was 14 I was able to work at an office full time for the summer thanks to a school to work program. At the time my only focus was buying cool school clothes haha but I was excited to have my 1st real job!! I could have never imagined what the opportunity would do for me. I was assigned to work with Monique Dann Desrochers. She was cheerful, bright and sweet at first glance but once I worked with her I realized she was also smart, driven and did her job to the highest standards! She was roughly the age I am now and at the time seemed so wise and she was. She took my assignment to her seriously. While other kids were given busy work Monique gleefully threw me right in the deep end...but never left my side. She showed me everything that she did NEVER once seeming as if she was dumbing it down for me. At the time I didn’t know it of course but she was teaching me to believe in myself in a way that has greatly shaped my life to this day! It didn’t matter if a task was hard or new to me she would show me anyway and sure enough at some point I’d be doing it on my own. Those building blocks not just in office business related tasks but more so in confidence and maybe a little bit of faking it until I made it kind of thing where priceless at that pivotal moment in my life. I can’t believe how far I’ve come sometimes when I look around at my life. There have been downs but nothing compared to the ups. My dreams were so simple before that time that I’ve certainly already surpassed most of them. I dream a lot bigger now and I owe a great deal of that to many amazing mentors I have had but my very 1st was, Monique. She allowed me to see the hope inside myself. Thank you, Monique. I’m so very grateful for you. —— I hope you enjoyed my post and I hope that you will join me in thanking a mentor. Also think about mentoring others! You never know what you could do for someone’s life!! XOXO #mentoring #passionsquared #grateful
