Hey, it's no longer NYE, but I suppose your last text post may still be an open invitation: In 2019, I fell short of all my goals (grades/master's/job, etc.). I'll be working at different firm than where I expected. My main goal going forward is to, by hook or by crook, relentlessly claw my way back to where I ought to have been. To that end, I hope to practice Aurelian stoicism. I hope also to become a prolific reader of the old philosophers and modern social critics. Also to better my French.
It is an open invitation – if anyone wants to come into my inbox and talk about their plans (for the new year? for the upcoming month? anything really), it would make me very happy.
While I’m sorry to hear about your shortfalls, I like the way you are approaching them: mature, driven, aware of the work it will take. I hope (I’m sure) you will reach the heights you aspire to. All while drawing strength by reading old philosopher alongside your relentless pursuit. It’s interesting that you mention Aurelian stoicism – I came across a copy of the Meditations and I think I’ll re-read it soon, hopefully it will have a beneficial effect.
(and, I hope my post about French can be of some use)
