The Call || Hero AU Spinoff
It’s 6 am in Sanders city and the sun has not yet risen. Snug in his bed lies a man who, when masked, runs around the city as a crime-stopping hero. His name is Roman Charming. While he’s been asleep, the world has kept turning around him. More specifically, the news has kept churning out stories about him. As he’s been in dreamland this whole time, he has remained oblivious to the stories around him. However, this is not to be the case for long.
The scarlet phone on his nightstand starts playing a Disney mashup he’d specifically chosen for one of his dearest friends. This wakes Roman up immediately and he pulls himself into sitting up to blearily look at the caller ID. He tries vainly for a moment then fumbles around until he finds a pair of wire glasses that stand in for his contacts in the morning.
Much better.
Oh look. His friend Patton is calling. They’ve been close since second grade and know everything about each other. His grumpy look is replaced by a grin and he places the phone to his ear at a speed previously unknown to humankind.
“Good morning, Patton!” he says, biting back his yawn.
“Good morning, Roman,” Patton says. His town sounds of and Roman frowns. “I read a story online today. Is it true?”
“Is what true, Patton? I can’t recall what you mean.”
“That you’ve been dating Deceit behind my back and might turn villain for him. He’s dangerous, Roman. He’ll hurt you without any hesitation. I’m just so worried for you. Why didn’t you tell me? You tell me everything.”
Roman’s heart drops. “We aren’t dating,” he says weakly. “We just are... Messing around.”
“Messing around,” Patton repeats, terse. ““Just sex” won’t make you immune to manipulation, Roman. I thought you stand for honor.”
“I do!”
“But you let him get away. So, do you?”
It’s 6 am in Sanders City and Roman Charming is trying very hard not to cry as his best friend in all the world hangs up on him.
