Are there any other physical signs of infection one should look out for with the Lovebuggs? The eyelights of course but I'm not sure if the tinting was just stylistic choice for their designs or an actual change you would expect. Part of me wants to make them hotter then normal. You know, so you always have a warm snuggle buddy, 'specially during those cold winter nights. Though it would certainly back fire during summer...
Oh no the tinting is definitely a stylistic choice, I just like seeing the color of their magic in their bones!
Besides the extra soul (or souls) in the eyesocket the only visible changes would jus be a sort of fluster when they see their bonded, like their parasite sending their body and soul into overdrive around them to get more of the love out of their bond
I think that could also effect their body temperature, both because of the soul working extra hard to support two living organisms and the constant state of fluster a host is in with their bonded in their field of view or on their mind!! It's great for cuddling in the winter, both because the parasite seeks their bonded's body heat but also because they're a walking radiator themselves
But in the summer it's like they're extra powerful, the parasites thrive in heat so it boosts their magic and their ability to track their beloved, so I suppose we've found our Parasites first weakness! The cold!!
So I got brain rabies and insomnia last night and plotted out the whole fic idea and wrote the first chapter before finally falling asleep. Woke up, found out my shift starts two hours later than I thought it did, so I got plenty of time to revise the chapter and post it. Idk how long the overall fic will be, but I have PLANS.
The first chapter is mostly fluff and foreshadowing with Papyrus. Sans will become more prominent later, but it's gonna be most Paps for a bit. I hope you like it!

Okay, so i've got the fic brewing in my brain. Definitely want it to be Papyrus centric, but I'm considering maybe adding in a love bug Sans as well. Whether Sans is infected or not, I like to imagine that they would have a sibling bond (happy sibling relationship go brrr). That does the raise the question, if both ends of a soul bond are infected, what happens?

OKAY OKAY SO IM GOING TO GIVE TWO EXAMPLES OF THIS, a romantic affection one based around my selfshipping and a platonic one based around Sans and papy
Two infecteds together in romantic aspect is the perfect and the worst possible couple you can imagine. A lovebugg can't infect a pat (what I call my sona) but pats have their own virus called LuvSick, a relationship between LuvSick and their pat is more controlling than the symbiotic relationship between a skeleton and their lovebugg parasite.
That being said, it makes a pat as obsessive, violent and possessive of whoever they're bonded to, and should they be bonded to an infected skeleton the two (or three in the poly aus) if them will be on top of eachother constantly. They're dependant on eachother for sustenance and are fine living their lives attached at the waists, though they have a tendency to shut down or freakout if their bonded is not around. The relationship is full of the reassurance and affection that both parasite and virus need to survive, but also may result in social isolation or the possible deaths of people around them. They're feeding off of eachother, consistently, to the point where they become more addicted to it than usual and would rather sit in a dark room with eachother than do any thing else. This is also true for parasite infected x parasite infected relationships, say, if you were a sansxsans/papxpap shipper
Now a sibling bond if two infected's is different, and it's likely that one sibling infected the other. Papyri are also alot more susceptible to infection because the parasites that latch onto their souls have more 'bugs' than they're able to give out, so in a house full of papyri they'd all get sick at a much faster rate. (This is because I hc papyrus as just a general power house with more magic than the average monster, so this also translates to his parasite)
A sibling bond would relate to them having a similar relationship to that of a sort of 'hive', they don't even have to look at eachother for their prime directive to be the same and they work together to achieve goals flawlessly, they feed off of each other's bond so they make sure to keep eachother alive and functioning properly, and are quick to ward off threats to their family member. Papyrus would be the hives mobility; carrying sans around, walking/driving places etc, and sans would be the meerkat/turret scouting out danger and destroying it accordingly. Sans Still makes his bad puns that papyrus pretend gets on his nerves, and papyrus still chastises his brother for his laziness at times, but they're basically psychically linked and cling to eachother when their romantic bonded's are non existent or not around. Keeping sick!siblings together is also a way to keep the skeletons off of a romantic bonded's back, but it may backfire and they may both hunt you down to smother you in their joined affections

okay okay so for me soulbonds work as like, a tie between two people, but it doesn't always have to be romantic! There are platonic and even familial soubonds, and the parasites behaviors adjust and feed accordingly!
Soulbonds can form by accident, over time! Where two(or more) people hangout constantly and begin to care for eachother, the stronger the soulbond the easier it is for all parties bonded to communicate through souls, and the easier it is for them to sense eachother.
It can also be done intentionally! Though it has to be agreed upon by both parties and with romantic bonds it involves the 'mingling/canoodling' of all parties involved if you understand my gist. Sibling soulbonds occur with very little effort and no canoodling but can't be broken if the relationship between two siblings is damaged, or if they're strangers to one another. Familial soubonds also occur naturally and with very little effort, and found family soulbonds are similar to that if a sibling soulbond or parent/child soulbond depending on the relationship between two found family members
Someone with a soulbond to a sibling or close friend will still be protective and obsessive, just not romantic! A sick! Sibling will be distrustful of their siblings friends, will keep close tabs on anyone that socializes with them, etc, A sick! Friend will have it out for blood for anyone who shit talks their friend, or who hurts them in any capacity, it doesn't always have to be romantic! To parasites food is food!

The only ones I really have are classics and swaps! The others aren't even really lose ideas jus fuzzy images in my mind , here's what I have!
Classic sick!Sans is still a laid-back, pun loving skeleton! He's least likely to impede a bonded's plans or actions, he's too lazy for that. He is however a practiced stalker and hacker. He'll have access to all of his bonded's technology, social accounts, bank information medical records, he's obsessive and everything there is to know about a bonded he will find out. He's everywhere his bonded is, without warning or because he's blatantly following them around like a lost puppy. On top of them constantly, if they're sitting down he's sitting on them, if they're standing he's got a hand around them, if they're working he's somewhere laying around watching them with an unnerving closeness. His attention can be distracted by trinkets like rubix cubes or even videogames or movies, but you've got an hour tops before he gets hungry again and starts wondering where his bonded is
Classic sick!Papy CRAVES attention, and will be as loud, flashy and constant as he has to be to get it, he doesn't have to stalk because if he had it his way, he and his bonded would never be apart. He's incredibly generous, and LOVES to give gifts, and is determined to keep his bonded alive and functioning properly. This includes feeding them, keeping them at full hp, enforcing a strict sleep schedule, he's alot more likely to impede on a beloveds autonomy than sick! Sans is. Despite his overbearing nature he can also be a huge pushover, he forces his beloved to eat but will get them only what they want, forces them to sleep but let's them watch a few episodes of their favorite show first, Esspecially if they ask really nicely and offer up some of their delectable affection, how can he say no to that? His bonded earns an obsessive caretaker, all for the low low price of every ounce of their love and attention. (I can also see him using he/they pronouns)
Swap!sick sans is a suave, manipulative mf, who always finds a way or a reason to be in the same room as his beloved, always comes up with a reason for his beloved to need his Assistance. While he comes off as helpful at first, it won't take long for his bonded to realize he's just a control freak, he needs texts every hour on the hour regarding his bonded's condition if he's not in his beloveds field of vision, if he doesn't get them he will show up at his bonded's doorstep to offer them a friendly reminder to keep in touch with him. He wants to know what you ate, when, who you talked to, why, if you still love him, if you think he's as pretty he thinks you are, etctec. Despite his confident persona he needs aLOT of reassurance before a bonded even has a CHANCE of getting him off of their back. If you want him to go away distract him by bathing him in kisses, trying to take care of him (feed him, put him to bed, etc), and running away before he can get wise and attach himself to you like white on rice once again. He does have a tendency to fall asleep on his feet, as his parasite doesn't even allow him to try and sleep unless his beloved is around, which is why he very much insists on having sleep overs, constantly.
Swap!sick Papy is just a big goof! He loves to see his beloved laugh and smile, most especially when he's the one causing such happiness. Like classic!sick sans he's an excellent stalker and loves to follow his bonded around, To keep them safe and to keep himself from experiencing his odd form of speration anxiety. He hates to be away from his bonded, not just because he gets hungry but because he's not around to keep any danger from coming to them, or to keep someone from trying to steal them away from him. He isn't the most confident and his parasite can read that, and uses it against him, insisting that if he isn't hanging over his beloveds shoulder constantly like a ghost then someone better and more capable will come along and snatch them away from him. Like his brother he needs aLOT of constant reassurance and communication to quell him of such fears. He's absolutely weak for his bonded, they can point and grunt for something and he'll rush to retrieve it for them, a good way to keep him occupied and away is to give him a list of stuff you want, he'll be gone for hours finding the perfect things for you, nothing less than perfection will do, it's the least he could do when his bonded puts up with him all day, Everyday. A way to keep him from whining and complaining when he isn't directly touching his bonded is to put on his clothes, he feels like it's close enough, and his clothes will smell like them after, and his bonded will smell like him (doesn't understand scent marking is not a thing humans do, but his sick mind doesn't really care)

And while they do not respect your boundaries as much as they should they do respond well to solid authority. well at least most of the parasites do, can't say much about an FS papy aligned one
That last fifteen minutes they will be sitting outside your door Impatiently awaiting cuddle time, if your four seconds late then get pissy (but it's okay because snuggles make it all better), and yes, you're right, the entire rest of the day they're glued to your hip to make up for the hour of time that you dared starve them of your affection 😤
They'll also likely attempt to stay in the same room with you during your hour of decompression time, even if they can't touch you, they have to see you to make sure you're safe and sound
