When I think of The Jazz Butcher (Oxford, England), I immediately think of Eric Janssen. As I was listening to various Jazz Butcher releases on Bandcamp, I noticed one of the user reviews was written by none other than Eric Janssen (the review for "Last Of The Gentleman Adventurers"). Read it; outstanding.
"A Scandal In Bohemia" was Pat Fish's 2nd full length as The Jazz Butcher and it's a brilliant statement of pop/sophisti-pop. The first band that comes to mind is The Woodentops. But I think most would say Lloyd Cole and the Commotions, Edwyn Collins and maybe Jonathan Richman come to mind when they listen to this. Ex-Bauhaus bassist David J plays bass on "A Scandal In Bohemia".
And I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the wonderful Momus. Fire Records reissued a lot of The Jazz Butcher discography in recent years.

Answering Jazz Butcher fan questions with the late mister fish
How did you get involved with David J?
I have very little to do with that, when I moved up to Northampton, I got to know Kevin Haskins the Bauhaus drummer and of course David's brother. and I just knew Kevin socially we to the odd party together and it's a very nice chap. a very strange thing happened at the end of 1982 at the time when we played about one and a half gigs in tiny backrooms of pubs. Bauhaus got in touch with us and said come and support us in the Hammersmith palais. which was a memorable experience and at the end of that... I saw Kevin and I said to him, "Why Kev, that was an experience! thanks for that." and Kev looked a little baffled and went "oh it's nothing to do with me." and I found out about three weeks after that it was actually David. He'd just doing his eagle-eyed pop detective thing he'd been watching us from a distance and thought "well how can I check him out I know I'll get him on the bill. see how they cope with being shouted at by 1500 furious goths" (laughs)... first time we really got to meet was Kevin's birthday party. he had a birthday party on a canal boat. Alan Moore was there and he did his sinister ducks tune with David of course backing him up on a guitar, so I got to meet Alan and David for pretty much the same night!
