Hi Im sorry for yank stupidity and I know it's a month away but what would be the word you put for wishing someone a <?> Waitangi Day? I don't wanna say "happy" because that's maybe feels like wishing a Cree or Cherokee person a "happy Day of Remembrance".
Thanks
No trouble at all- in my experience you don't really wish people an anything Waitangi day, though? Might just be me but it's not really a hugely common thing to the extent of other holidays.
Some people would say happy waitangi day- to an extent it is something to be celebrated especially considering current times, but that's not going to be the opinion of all Maori and imo especially considering the way waitangi day has often been a time to brush over Maori grievances and pretend we're all one happy nation that might be more inappropriate than not. You could say something like "wishing you well this/for waitangi day", or "have a good waitangi day", because then the statement is more about the person than the event.
