“You’ve got some on your face.” Paige blinked. “I do?” she asked, instinctively lifting her free hand toward her mouth, but Bones caught it before she could reach. Her other hand came up, slower now, her thumb brushing the edge of Paige’s lower lip where the ice cream had softened, a faint, sticky trace left behind. Paige’s breath caught. Bones didn’t move her hand away. Her thumb lingered, just slightly, pressing just enough to draw Paige’s attention to the exact point of contact, to the contrast between the warmth of her own skin and the coolness of Bones’ touch. Paige swallowed, and Bones leaned in until Paige could feel her cool breath against her mouth. She paused there, just a fraction of a second, her gaze dropping to Paige’s lips, before moving her hand to Paige’s waist. Then her tongue brushed, slow and deliberate, along the place her thumb had just been. Bones stepped back then, but her eyes never left Paige. “All better.”
