Tis been a hot minute since I've drawn but I'm excited to start posting art again. I suffer from different face syndrome where I can draw the same oc over and over again and they'll always have a different face. Once I start drawing more, hopefully I'll get better

Yustina Zucker Design

This is part two of a yapfest of the choices and inspiration I took to be able create Yustina!

Beginning with the initial concept, I was thinking about making her an oc that lives in the world of Twisted Wonderland instead of a Yuu. Her name was going to be Dulcie Swiftmont and be known as the Princess of Azucarera, a place based on Sugar Rush where it was known for their advancements in vehicles and racing. It was a very rough concept considering I quickly decided to change Dulcie to a Yuu to which we now have Yustina!

I like to name characters based on physical traits such as the color of their hair or something related to their personality. In this case, I went with Yustina since it means 'just' or 'righteous' in Latin origins (this is what popped up most in baby name websites, so if it's wrong please correct me).

As for Zucker, I have a friend who has a similar last name and has German family. I learned that it meant sugar and I thought it was a good last name for Yustina since the von in Von Schweetz is of Germanic origin and I wanted to hint at that.

Now, design choices!

For her appearance, I tried to include as many references to the movie as well as candy and sweets in general.

Starting with the hair, I did a dive around Pinterest for candy inspired hair and came upon twists! When I first saw the style, I thought they looked a lot like licorice. I kept this choice in the end as I wanted to make a reference to how Vanellope has a licorice hair tie in the movie. As for the sprinkles and peppermints in her hair, I didn't want to copy exactly by using hair clips with said candies. After looking at other hair acessories that could be used, I decided on hair cuffs since they can be just as colorful! I also kept the hair tie pink, just not the same shade as Vanellope's.

I do want to add that I was inspired by Decora Fashion! Also known as decoration style and it is a Japanese street fashion style. It is known to be a maximalist with a large collection of accessories. It can have vibrant colors, but not always!

I'd like to reiterate, I was inspired by Decora Fashion. I don't believe the outfit I came up with is there yet to be considered decora because I feel like I could have done more, but maybe in the future, I'll have the skills needed to have Yustina's outfit be more maximalist!

Onto the facial accessories!

The bandaid and stickers weren't added until recently (literally yesterday so the art credits above this doesn't have it because I commissioned it before I thought of adding it). I felt like there was something still missing and I wanted to add more of a maximalist feel that Decora fashion gives. Some of the stickers are references to the movie, while others are references to candies.

The rainbow sticker isn't connected to Sugar Rush, but they're based on the sour rainbow belt candies. As for the blue bunny sticker, I was inspired by the blue bunny candies given to me on Easter. As for the lollipop, it's the same lollipop that Taffyta Muttonfudge holds in the movie! The heart is the medal that Vanellope gives Ralph, except it doesn't have the words.

The NRC uniform!

Beginning with the jacket, it is a similar color to Vanellope except it's not a hoodie and the strings aren't a different color. I want a nod to Vanellope's design, but also take my own creative liberties that aren't too on the nose. Instead of the pink being on the strings, I decided to use the vest as a contrast to the jacket.

I decided, to add more color to the top half of the body, to have the sleeves scrunch up to make way for the fingerless striped glove on one side and the bracelets on the other. I was inspired by the Smarties candy for one bracelet. As for the other, I grew up with my mom making checkerboard cookies every winter and I knew I wanted to make a reference to that and decided to go with a slap band bracelet.

Moving onto the belt, I added it to make her design look fun especially before we look to the black skirt. Like Vanellope's skirt, it's two layered but to make it look more cute, I added the white ruffles.

To keep the asymmetry going I added a purple ribbon to one side only over the pink socks. I wanted to add the detail in the design where Vanellope has a purple stripe in one sock and not the other.

Below the sock is a set of scrunched up leg warmers that are the same pattern and similar colors as the other sock of Vanellope's. Also, because why not, I added another set of leg warmers where I put the hearts and peppermints that were in Vanellope's hair on the warmers instead. They're not printed into the cloth but rather sewed on.

The boots are similar colors to Vanellope's but a bit of a different design where I added thick laces and give Yustina a bit of a height boost.

Lastly,

The nails are similar colors, just in a different order.

Yustina Zucker Inspos and Personality

Here we have: Elle Woods (Legally Blonde), Amalia Sheran Sharm (Wakfu), Lucy Heartfilia (Fairy Tail), Aerith Gainsborough (Final Fantasy), and Nefertari Vivi (One Piece)

I didn't want to make Yustina too similar to Vanellope, but I still kept a few memorable traits such as being energetic and talkative, just with the right people. She is a determined dreamer and quick to adapt, especially under high stress situations.

Unlike Vanellope, she knows what to say to avoid conflict as she doesn't like violence. She can't defend herself unless it's in smarts and adaptability.

More will be revealed as time goes on to help you guys see the traits I've taken from each of the characters!
