There appears to be a problem with Patreon at the moment. Payouts for creators have been stopped because their system was experiencing problems. Additionally, many people who sub to creators have found their subs this month are being declined en masse. This has lead to a significant and sudden drop in sub numbers for many creators, and patrons aren’t able to resub.
There’s not a huge amount of info on Patreon’s end (no surprise there). If you are a patron to various creators it might be worth double checking to see if you’ve been affected and whether you’re able to resub again if your creator list has been wiped.
Hey everyone. I just wanted to drop a line re: the recent issue over at Patreon. The gist (as I understand it) was that Patreon moved their headquarters or billing offices or something to the UK and this sent up red flags with the banks when it came time to charge patron’s cards for the month. This resulted in a lot of patron’s cards being declined. While Patreon has yet to issue an official statement about this (afaik) it has for the most part been cleared up by patrons checking in with their banks and letting them know the charges weren’t fraudulent. But myself as well as other Patreon creators have patrons who choose to support us but don’t generally check emails or really keep up with our Patreons in general. So many patrons are still marked as declined, probably have no idea and could be missing out on the content that they think they’ve paid for for the month. Many creators lost a significant amount of pledges this month because of Patreon’s oversight. I fortunately wasn’t hit too hard, but once everything was cleared up, I did lose about $15 in pledges from long time supporters. A good friend of mine lost over $100+. Patreons with more patrons were probably hit a lot harder.
So if you pledge to creators on Patreon, please double check that your card wasn’t declined for August. I know these artists would sure appreciate your continued support. And if you’re someone who’s been thinking of throwing some support toward your favorite artists, now would be a really good time. Thanks so much!
I’m going to crosspost this across my various accounts and hope that my declined patrons and other’s declined patrons may actually see it because they may be missing messages from Patreon. Hope you’re all having a rad day. <3
I got a warning from Patreon for “Sexual Violence”, for using the word dub-con on my contains list on my latest nsfw script. However, on their community guidelines it ONLY mentions that they don’t allow non consensual sexual activities.
I understand that each individual will have their own personal opinion on what dub-con means to them. But by definition, dub-con is not equivalent to non consensual.
I choose to tag my content as dub-con to tell my audience that I’m fully aware of how dubious the interactions is between the characters, and that my audience should be aware of it. I am NOT using the tag as a way to “gaslight my audience to believe that dub actually means soft non”. Because that is not what dub-con means.
Both Soichi and AFO are consenting to sex. (Even Toshinori is consenting even if he isn’t participating) The only thing that is dubious consent is Soichi’s worry of waking Toshinori up from his sleep, and for believing it’s rude for having stealth sex.
It even makes it clear by the end of the script:
Soichi: “We woke him up… disturbed his sleep…”
“And I feel so ashamed for having sex beside him like that…”
AFO: “You silly girl.”
“We are in a polygamous situationship.”
“We can have sex without him.”
Soichi: “I know! But… it didn’t feel right, not like that…”
Soichi: “I have disappointed him…”
AFO: “He didn’t wake up.” <He tells her>
Soichi: “Huh?” <She looks up at him>
AFO: “He’s still sleeping.”
Soichi: “…”
I will empathize that someone here might view this as non-con. But it isn’t, it’s dubious. It’s complex, it’s a gray area. This is also a way of writing Soichi’s complexity as a character. (and a way of writing AFO’s questionable capabilities of compassion)
People as an individual don’t have to read dub-con if they’re not into it. But dub-con should not automatically be considered as non-con. Especially when it’s used correctly!
Is Patreon broken? I've been trying and failing for the last two hours to update my card that I know for a FACT works, but it just. Won't. Fucking. TAKE!
Me after posting today (March 27th): And this is why my most expensive (and only) pledge tier or whatever is only $1 a month and why I discourage people from joining.
Everything eventually gets released to the public and I don't post much, so there's no need to join. It's just prepared for whenever I do get on a good schedule and get better at art.
I'm gonna try to get on a drawing schedule to work on my art and experiment, ya know?
Patreon: We'll send you an email when we accept your creation page (or whatever they called it*
Me:
Me while waiting for my email: I'm gonna log myself on with this phone
Patreon: We need to send you an email for security reasons. Please click the link in the email
Me:
No acceptance email. No security log in email. Despite asking them to resend the security email twice.
How long does it take for them to review and accept my page?
AND how long does it take to send a security log in email? I can understand taking a couple days to check the page out, but aren't security emails usually automatic? That's how it's been for pretty much everything else that's ever needed to send me a security link.
