Where can I start …
I met Patrick Condon at the start of my third year at the University of British Columbia. Needless to say, that meeting and a semester later of his Environmental Design class would change my life.
In reference to that UBC advertising and your ‘aha moment’ I didn’t quite have that; I had been hit in the face with a brick… A brick that flung me into a paradigm shift in my own life, values, and pursuits.
After having the chance to get to know Patrick a little more personally, and even do a little research work with him, I cannot imagine ending my undergraduate pathway any other way.
Patrick has really imprinted a few things in my mind.
The first is to not back down, even when it is David v. Goliath.
The second is to live the life you teach to others.
The third was something I will hold onto for a long time.
Patrick told me that in order to figure out the big picture, we have to engage a few small things. Be it a few minds, a few citizens, or a few designs. If you can be mindful you are helping to make those small changes; you may not see the big picture in your life, but you can help others to bring about those much larger changes some day.
Patrick – Thank you so much for always being able to chat, bringing back some of my faith in the world, and for being around to shape a few more young minds.
A very grateful grad,
AK
